E3 2009: Microsoft and Turn 10's Xbox 360-exclusive racer hitting the gas with more than 400 vehicles later this year.
LOS ANGELES--As far back as June 2008, speculation has abounded that Microsoft and Turn 10 were prepping a new installment in the Forza hyper-realistic racing franchise. In May, rumors that Microsoft would use its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference to debut the new racer surfaced. Today, those rumors can be put to bed, as Microsoft dedicated a significant portion of its press event to detail Forza Motorsport 3, which will ship exclusively for the Xbox 360 this October.
As part of the demonstration, Turn 10 creative director Dan Greenwalt showed off a demo of the game. The demo first shows a number of vehicles flying around a mountain racing track, a precarious location given that one of the vehicles suddenly flips and rolls.
According to Greenwalt, Forza 3 will feature graphics running at 60 frames per second. The game will also include some 400 vehicles from a variety of manufacturers. Greenwalt also noted that player-generated content will be featured front and center in Forza 3, showing off artwork that has been uploaded by professional artists. The game will also allow players to upload high-definition video, with a dedicated video editor built in as well.
Microsoft will feature Forza Motorsport 3 at its booth on the E3 show floor. Check back with GameSpot later for a full preview of the new racer.

first forza was great. tons of fun - some of the best ive had in a sim, maybe ever. forza 2, wasn't worth it to me. i didnt find it to be better than the 1st, all around. now forza 3, this looks great. i think ill be picking this one up. 400 vehicles??? when do we get a car list!?
As ive said before, GT5 is simply 'just another racer' (lots of cars, lots of tracks, blah blah blah), with no real innovation. However im sure sony will try to copy the ideas from Forza (online auction house, full visual customisation, etc : )

megadethandy, I could agree with you on graphics, but racing and especially PHYSIC wise, you will have to explain this to me. I own and play GT5P and they still have to take this where Forza 2 is right now. The feeling of transition from understeer is just plain fake in GT5P and the feeling of friction is under what Turn10 achieved. And that tire squeal man... and those engine sounds don't come close either. Prologue is briliant in its own way because its a pre-build and GT5 will be so much more polished and content will help it and graphics will be over the top. But to state that it is superior to Forza right now is just fanboy anticipation. I hope it does top Forza though, cause that would make it a hell of a game!
Lets not get too carried away... by the time GT5 comes out chances are we'll all be playing Forza 4.
Can't wait to get my hands on it. Looked a bit like Burnout from the trailers, but it shouldn't be confused for an arcade racer. From the trailer it's just demonstrating how great hte physics and damage systems are and how they all add to the effect of heart pounding racing whilst keeping the realism, adding to the overall experience. From the sounds of things (from Stephen Totilio's tiwitter) it doesn't sound like it's detracting from the series (lol pun not intended) yet still managing to inject an extra dose of adrenaline into it. Consider this a day one purchase, this games has officially convinced me into getting a steering wheel for my 360.
While i only own a PS3 and imo GT5 will be the better game as far as physics, graphics and racing goes, I am very jealous that you guys get the Lamborghini Countach!
To all the guys here saying how Forza 3 looks too arcady and to others how say they would rather play Project Gotham I laugh at u. It takes skill to race in a racing simulator, and the funny thing is that if you really wanted to learn the game is there and willing to help u. Like I said, I learned everything I know from Forza 2 alone. I went from a Mario Kart/Need 4 Speed racer to actually learning how to take corners faster and faster than I ever thought possible in really no time flat. Most people need to take the time to learn but since they're lazy they won't. PLayers and teams like Project BlackJack can do AMAZING things in cars. Don't put off Forza as arcady because these guys know just how to make a car do whatever they want by sheer practice and SKILL. It's so much mor rewarding knowing u won a race using the same principles of physics, and being able to control a car's real-world behaviour. I mean, yeah in BurnOut u can drive a Ferrari I guess but what's so great about it when it sounds and drives nothing close to the real thing??????

This is just what I was waiting for! I'm so glad Forza 3 is coming along this october and I really hope more coverage of the game gets posted. I never was able to get the hang of racing simulators until I demoed Forza 2 a week before it got released. It's the way they organize the game that Turn 10 was able to introduce newbies like myself to this genre of gaming. Forza 2 alone is a hands down great game by how much freedom of car tuning it gave players, I have no doubt that Turn 10 built upon it's strengths and addressed their weaknesses which one of them were there lack of different tracks. This made my day! I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
was it just me or was the video shown at E3 too arcedy. the cars didn't move realistically and you could see that they are now very light. and even when there were collisions, there was no damage penalty etc it seems like we can now have a demolition derby and not get a penalty for ramming others(though i do not do that stuff. i race fair. i am just stating that people will start ramming others into the grass or walls) lol either way, making the R8 the flag carrier or forza 3 will attract lots of fans. pray that grand turismo 5 show tomorrow doesn't leave the forza 3 unveiling in the durst.
Im pretty sure GT5 will tower over this game but the Forza series isnt too bad i enjoued the last one.
I'm looking forward to this game. It'll take Forza to a completely new level. What about GT5? Sony fanboys have been saying how its gonna own Forza and all the other crap. Well where is it? Sony can't touch this. If Sony was making any progress whatsoever then they would've released a full version of the game now. Sony may have just gave up altogether.
While GT is still trying to figure out last gen concepts like online and damage modeling, the Forza team continues to keep an entire generation ahead of that overly regarded franchise.
Wow! Forza Motorsport 2 is by far the best racing simulation game ever created, yet Forza Motorsport 3 is raising the level of quality to even higher standards that were beyond my imagination. I was absolutely amazed with all of the features and innovations that continued to be shown for Forza Motorsport 3. The graphics are the best I have ever seen in a racing game. I'm going to buy the force-feedback steering wheel for the Xbox 360 soon.
That guy made some pretty bold statements about racing games and this generation due to the fact we don't know if something could come along that is better hint "the real driving simulator" but only time will tell, and they both look good.
Im so glad they've kept the online Auction House, etc, as this seperates Forza from all other 'Racers'. Nice! The only other Racer that im looking forward to is F1 2010.

IMO this is the best news of the day. 400 cars, 100 tracks, better destruction system. It's going to be epic.
@ raahsnavj, couldn't agree with you more. Forza is a good game at its core, but the focus of the series is drifting away from racing and turning into a social app. I will be looking to other franchises for my racing sim fix such as GT5 and NFS: Shift. Hopefully one of those will live up to my expectations.
@kevin8se7en - I don't mind customizing when it affects the race... but paint jobs are just wasted fluff. I want to see forza have racing leagues. Season modes, things like that... you know stuff that makes racing... racing - like a sport. Instead it looks like we are going to get the same old same old with more cars, more models, and now the ability to share paint jobs and make fan videos via live. Forza 3 won't be gracing my console and I'll have to go back to hoping someone will think racing has to do with racing and not driving down the road in the prettiest car or snaking around in a half-arcade like street race (PGR)....
any type of sim game isn't my cup of tea. i perfer games like burnout, where gameplay is focused on, and content is continually added.
I'm nor much into driving simulators, I prefer arcade racers, but Forza3 and GT5 look incredible.
@ raahsnavj Why would you NOT want customization? A racing game with out it is just another racing game.. that's what sets Forza apart... Like 360 version of the PS3 game Gran Turismo but without sucking... Personally I can't wait for this one to come out... Forza is the best racing series
Too bad they aren't making a racer and instead are making a car collecting and customizing game. When did racing become a customizing core? I did like the in car camera and such. That was cool, but for the most part it looks like it will just be the same old forza with tacked on 'Live' customization.
My biggest question: "Will it have G25 support or are we stuck with the MS Xbox360 wheel and all the crappier wheels only?"
I wanna what Gran Turismo has to offer.................... Forza looks awesome...................
