First look: Super Bubble Pop

Jaleco Entertainment releases information on its upcoming music-themed puzzle game. First screens inside.

Later this month, Jaleco Entertainment will publish Super Bubble Pop for the PlayStation, Xbox, GameCube, and GBA. The game is described as a puzzle adventure in which players must pop, bash, and smash their way through more than 150 levels by ridding each stage of colored bubbles in a way not unlike that seen in Taito's Bust-A-Move games, the most recent of which is Super Bust-A-Move 2 for the PS2.

As one of five whimsical DJ characters, players will be required to fire a sequence of bubbles at those already in the dance floor-shaped level to form same-color lines of three or more bubbles that will subsequently pop. Each character in the game boasts nine different special attacks, and these are likely to prove especially popular in the competitive two-player mode available on the GameCube and Xbox. Super Bubble Pop will be played against a backdrop of electronica music, although the Xbox version will also allow players to play their own selections from the hard drive.

The Xbox and GBA versions of the game are scheduled for release in North America on December 17, while the PlayStation and GameCube versions will follow on December 18 and December 20, respectively. All four versions of the game are scheduled for release in Europe around January or February next year. We'll bring you more information on Super Bubble Pop as it becomes available. In the meantime, you can check out screenshots from all four versions using the links to the right.

He left the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine to join GameSpot in 2000, believes that he's one of the best Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe players in the world, and is still searching for a game that's as good as Paradroid.
