First look: Gorky Zero: Beyond Honor
Metropolis Software releases the first information on its upcoming stealth-based tactical action prequel to the 1999 game Odium. First screens inside.
Metropolis Software has released the first information on Gorky Zero: Beyond Honor for the PC. The game, which is a prequel to Odium (known as Gorky 17 in Europe), is set a few years before the events of the first game and will see players assuming the role of agent Cole Sullivan. The storyline for the game is being written by award-winning Polish science-fiction author Rafal Ziemkiewicz, and it will see players conducting covert operations in the Ukraine.
"From my experience I can say that writing the storyline of a computer game is similar to working on a movie scenario," said Ziemkiewicz. "Unlike a novel, a game requires the story to be constructed, and not told--in the beginning the main goal and culmination points must be created. Such task is a great lesson of discipline, not to be overestimated by a writer. Gorky Zero is my first approach to a computer game scenario, thus it's been a real learning process, especially because it's a sequel to an already existing game. While working on Gorky Zero, I set myself a goal to create a good, coherent story--uniqueness was not the priority. I hope players will enjoy my story, and next time I will be able to create something a little more crazy."
Much of the game will be played from an isometric viewpoint so players are always aware of their immediate surroundings. When performing certain actions, though, such as disarming or neutralizing an enemy, the camera will switch to a regular third-person view. Players will have access to an array of weapons and hi-tech gadgets, and they will also be able to perform "silent kills" similar to those found in the Tenchu series of console games if they manage to sneak up on a guard without being detected.
Further information on Gorky Zero: Beyond Honor is scarce at present, and in the absence of a publisher, no release date has been announced at this time. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
