Time for Elite to be Elite - goddamn this is good news.

loved elite on my C64.  And that sentence contains a wealth of advice; The game was a BBC game and was quickly ported to C64. This dude wants 1.5m to make a 'PC' only game. Sorry, I have money in my bank and a Mac on my desktop. You fail

Wow! I played Frontier on my old Amiga 3000. Great, open ended, space sandbox game. Would love to see this get released. Happy to see that Chris Roberts is jumping back in too. Loved the Wing Commander series back in the day. Lots of good memories. Far too many cheap, short, shallow fps's around these days. This is a real nice change of pace.

I'm thinking Star Citizen is going to trump this.

Any older gamers will have of course have fond memories of the first incarnations of Elite.  I have been waiting for a sequel for over 20 years and always check the internet every couple of year for any rumors.  It *appears* that it may finally happen. Is this a good thing for my childhood dream to finally come true or will it be stained?

The words multi-player make me a little nervous because it takes time and experience for a games company to implement this without making it just an add on and weakening the game as a whole.

I will be following this games development for sure.

Elite was great. I remember it for my Commodore 64 and then I remember the Frontier games that were based upon it. I also remember a series called Starglider that were loosely based on Elite. Starglider 1 & 2 were great games. I played them on my Amiga. Starglider 2 was epic, it had polygon graphics, a big advancement for the time. I remember a great experience of capturing a Space Whale, they sounded so real. The game was open ended for the time too. Elite Plus, Frontier and Frontier First Encounters were nice. I loved the way you could examine a crafts hyperspace jump cloud and tell what system they just jumped to. The Elite games eventually evolved into the X series of space games beginning with X: Beyond The Frontier.

I already kicked in 65 bucks to this. Its called Star Citizen by Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts.

The subsequent Elite games in the series (I think there were two sequels) weren't very good. I dunno, it seems too little to late and I loved the original on the Commodore 64.

lets see, we wait for a new star wars trilogy which is bound to raise interest in spaceships and space battles. you do the math.

All this space battle makes me sad, because I miss Homeworld so much. Who owns the IP of Homeworld now, anyone know?

Going from 0 space sims to 2 space sims is a huge win.  Hopefully with both being in development, they will each step it up!

Mechwarrior and new space sims will really bring me back to PC.

I hope elite and star citizen aren't competing for funding too much, I really want to see them both. I also hope the name is changed... Seriously.... That is a terrible name, sounds like they just gave up on the title..

Freelancer 2 would be sweet, and Starglider 2 would be nice to see as well.  I'd love to see a new Mercenary game, the original on the C64 was groundbreaking for its time, and the sequels was also very good.

A new Elite incoming and hopefully a new Star Citizen afterwords! :P

I wish they would 'Reboot' Starglider 2, although i also cant wait to see how this develops.

Or someone could just make Freelancer 2. Just sayin.....

I would say that it seems that PC is making a comeback but its never gone away @ least not in my eyes as my PC Game time DOMINATES my console totally, but it sure is the place of new ideas again My personal fav putting the big publishing houses out to pasture and removing the negative influence they generate..

 Could this actually mean a return to the golden years of gaming when games were made by gamer's for gamers and not the bs DLC micro transaction bossiness model  the publishers are imposing .
