First images of Elite: Dangerous surface

David Braben's Kickstarter project gains a new video, concept art, and images of the game's ships.
Earlier this week, game developer David Braben and his studio Frontier Developments created a Kickstarter page for a new game in the Elite universe, subtitled "Dangerous." Braben was looking for $2 million or £1.25 million, which he said was enough for Frontier to build and release the game.
At the time of writing, the fund has reached nearly a third of its minimum target, but today the team released a video and some images to entice more funding. The screens show concept art of the smaller ships and the bigger cruisers, while in the video, computer screens show what appears to be the game running in its current form.
The full set of images are available on the game's Kickstarter page, and in our image gallery. The Kickstarter project currently has 56 days to go and is set for release on the PC in March 2014. Any money raised beyond the minimum funding target will allow the possibility of more content and platforms, according to Braben.

loved elite on my C64. And that sentence contains a wealth of advice; The game was a BBC game and was quickly ported to C64. This dude wants 1.5m to make a 'PC' only game. Sorry, I have money in my bank and a Mac on my desktop. You fail
Wow! I played Frontier on my old Amiga 3000. Great, open ended, space sandbox game. Would love to see this get released. Happy to see that Chris Roberts is jumping back in too. Loved the Wing Commander series back in the day. Lots of good memories. Far too many cheap, short, shallow fps's around these days. This is a real nice change of pace.
@Mega_Loser @Landsharkk it does look awesome.......because of this I went to the website and watched the video released. It reeks of awesomeness.
@Mega_Loser Actually I just heard about Star Citizen last week, but comparing the two I think Star Citizen is going to be much better.
And why is it every time someone voices their opinion for/against something there's always someone else who thinks they are a 'fanboy' or 'fanatic', or in some cases "He likes company X, he must work for them", etc.
i don't know, i guess because you chose to use the word "trump" instead of any other, more conservative verb.
some people are very susceptible to hype and roberts' presentation did give off a lot.
i admit prejudice but getting to know someone before exchanging constructive dialogue is luxury these days.
IMHO, both are greatly expected by many and personally can't wait to see more of either.

Any older gamers will have of course have fond memories of the first incarnations of Elite. I have been waiting for a sequel for over 20 years and always check the internet every couple of year for any rumors. It *appears* that it may finally happen. Is this a good thing for my childhood dream to finally come true or will it be stained?
The words multi-player make me a little nervous because it takes time and experience for a games company to implement this without making it just an add on and weakening the game as a whole.
I will be following this games development for sure.
Elite was great. I remember it for my Commodore 64 and then I remember the Frontier games that were based upon it. I also remember a series called Starglider that were loosely based on Elite. Starglider 1 & 2 were great games. I played them on my Amiga. Starglider 2 was epic, it had polygon graphics, a big advancement for the time. I remember a great experience of capturing a Space Whale, they sounded so real. The game was open ended for the time too. Elite Plus, Frontier and Frontier First Encounters were nice. I loved the way you could examine a crafts hyperspace jump cloud and tell what system they just jumped to. The Elite games eventually evolved into the X series of space games beginning with X: Beyond The Frontier.

The subsequent Elite games in the series (I think there were two sequels) weren't very good. I dunno, it seems too little to late and I loved the original on the Commodore 64.

lets see, we wait for a new star wars trilogy which is bound to raise interest in spaceships and space battles. you do the math.

Going from 0 space sims to 2 space sims is a huge win. Hopefully with both being in development, they will each step it up!
Mechwarrior and new space sims will really bring me back to PC.
rebirth is a bit weird, i don't know how i feel about flying in only one mothership and control all of my other ships from a console.
yes that's true. i think they are trying to mainstream and simplify the gameplay but let's hope for the best.
@Mega_Loser @PETERAKO wierd? well it has been done before in darkstar one, and it worked. you will be able to expand the skunk and you will be able to walk inside it and even talk to NPCs. if they do it right, then why not?

3 Like I hope elite and star citizen aren't competing for funding too much, I really want to see them both. I also hope the name is changed... Seriously.... That is a terrible name, sounds like they just gave up on the title..
Freelancer 2 would be sweet, and Starglider 2 would be nice to see as well. I'd love to see a new Mercenary game, the original on the C64 was groundbreaking for its time, and the sequels was also very good.
I wish they would 'Reboot' Starglider 2, although i also cant wait to see how this develops.

3 Like I would say that it seems that PC is making a comeback but its never gone away @ least not in my eyes as my PC Game time DOMINATES my console totally, but it sure is the place of new ideas again My personal fav putting the big publishing houses out to pasture and removing the negative influence they generate..
Could this actually mean a return to the golden years of gaming when games were made by gamer's for gamers and not the bs DLC micro transaction bossiness model the publishers are imposing .

1 Like @AlphaWolF_J I agree. Sony and MS's lack of new hardware and constant release of significantly overpriced DLC has pushed me back to PC gaming over the last couple of years.
1 Like Leviathanwing, having both great gameplay and great graphics makes the game for me. You can settle on just gameplay, but I have higher standards. You can only get that on the PC. So yes, hardware makes the game.
