Fire Emblem: Awakening arrives Feb. 4

Nintendo confirms North American launch date for new 3DS game; Wii Fit U due first part of next year; Google Maps support for Wii U on the way.

A Nintendo Direct presentation today revealed that Fire Emblem: Awakening will launch in North America on February 4. It released in Japan in April as Fire Emblem: Kakusei and was previously slated for a Western launch during the first half of 2013.

Nintendo also confirmed launch windows for several high-profile Wii U games. Wii Fit U will launch in the "first part" of 2013, with Pikmin 3 due in Q2 2013 and Lego City Undercover during "early 2013."

Luigi's Mansion fans also received news during the Nintendo Direct presentation, as it was revealed that Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for 3DS will arrive during spring 2013.

The Nintendo Direct presentation also revealed new information about the Wii U Panorama application that was shown off during Nintendo's 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation. The app will be available in the Wii U eShop during spring 2013 as a paid download, though it was not announced what gamers can expect to pay for it.

Lastly, Nintendo revealed that Google Maps support, including Street View, will be available through the Wii U sometime during the first quarter of 2013 (January-March 2013).

Awesome, hopefully this version of the game will come with all the DLCs in the Japanese version already in the game.

Unless random battles or their like have been reintroduced into the games, I don't want to even hear about the new one, I'm too embittered.

Sounds good. Shame there's no word on a new Advance Wars though, that was my favorite strategy game on the handhelds.

The artwork really doesn't appeal to me much.  I know different artists did the artwork for the series before, but I feel like it's gradually gone downhill since the earlier games.  But maybe that's just the way of the times?

 @Ovirew Famitsu expressed disdain over the artwork, so you're not alone. That being said it was scored 9/9/9/9, so regardless the ratings were high.

I have a love hate relationship with the old fire emblem games, they were certainly a challenge.  I may consider getting a 3DS just for this game

 @slayer1090 Oh he knows he can't cause any trouble here since the general consensus is that Fire Emblem is an amazing franchise that many of us have been yearning for. Even those who usually rag on Nintendo are excited by this news. 

 

People like him will never find anything more fulfilling than being a complete idiot online and spouting out absolute nonsense, curious to hear how he talks in real life. It'd probably hurt our brains.

Hmm, to pre-order or not to pre-order...  If I pre-order at Gamestop I am taking the risk that it will cost $5-$10 more than SOMEWHERE ELSE.  However, this is the kind of game that usually seems to have a limited release and you can never find it.

 @atopp399 Unless you have a mom and pop store that sells it for less than every other store, you'll be paying the same price anyway. Most places sell things new at the exact same price as GameStop. The only thing GS might do differently are used prices.

 @blackace Pikmin, Luigi and Fire Emblem are all good reasons to enjoy a Wii U, but not enough to push me over the edge and buy one yet. I think I will probably just wait until Smash Bros is released, and then buy all of these games at once.

 @Poodger  @blackace Actually, Luigi's Mansion 2 and this Fire Emblem game are for the 3DS and not the Wii-U.  Unless something has changed since I first heard about them.

Nintendo...what about the Wii U?

I used to play tons of rpg's and strategy games on snes on a TV!!!

Many of these sort of games are only to be found on the 3DS :(

Miniscreens arent my cup of tea and if Nintendo wants me byuing their console,better bring such games i (and hopefully many others) loved on snes to the Wii U.

And please bring a true 2D sequel to Super Metroid.

I cannot wait for Feb 4.... I wonder if they are making a WiiU Fire Emblem... I know I know is to early but it would be awesome, and continue with the story line from Radiant Dawn as well as using the data from it to affect the story line and other elements  :D ;).

 @Joshua2222 Well the WiiU is not for everyone, and I do get what your saying... it all comes down to preferences :D.

 

I do not own a WiiU at the moment, but maybe when the new batch comes around the spring I will get one, since I do see a lot of potential in it.... and hopefully developers (specially 3rd party ones) can move away from the map/inventory/etc mentality they currently have regarding the usage of the gamepad.

 @Joshua2222  @hitman047m4 No kidding. Between Pokemon and Fire Emblem you have all of my Nintendo purchases. With Pokemon being shit on consoles and having disappointing handheld releases with the new generation, Fire Emblem will primarily be my fix. As well as Zelda. Can't forget Zelda.

 @slayer1090  @supa_badman  He means that we're lucky to get a Fire Emblem once every three years, compared to Nintendo cramming Mario down our throat, 3 or 4 Pokemon games, a Zelda or two and some other games.

Mario typically only comes out once a year and it's usually a completely different game each time, this year is an exception with 3 Mario titles (Paper Mario being one). Pokemon also takes between 1-2 years, and Zelda takes between 2-3 years (between consoles and handhelds). 

 

Nintendo usually only releases no more than 2 entries of their franchises per console, although the DS was a HUGE exception for Pokemon.

 @supa_badman mmmmm maybe I could be wrong but Intelligent Systems has been bringing at least 1-3 F.E. title per console (off course if we count all those titles that were not localized as well)... with the exception of the N64 title which got cancelled.

 

Other than that I am glad to have one or two F.E. titles per console since that gives developers a chance to work around more in depth on the games. But that is just my opinion, since I am a bit more conservative when it comes the amount of games on a series per console. (note that I am not bashing other game series)

There's no reason to make these anymore, nobody seems to buy them. The last Fire Emblem game I played was for the Gameboy Advance.

And neither do I. Don't assume just because I acted negatively to this game that I play COD. You may find that I have traveled on many adventures, and these will never be the same as the original 2 GBA titles.

 @abHS4L88  @Joshua2222  @TheEveryMan Funny though, I found my copy of Radiant Dawn by chance, I was not looking for it, and for $30 I found a brand new copy at a local game shop. The store clerk that sold it to me told me that I was very lucky to get itNow as for Path of Radiance lol that is another story lol, since I almost came across a copy of it for $20, but I was like few minutes late to get it. So I have to get back to the flea markets and other game stores and maybe my luck can change lol.

 @TheEveryMan Thanks for the reply, and I do acknowledge that reviews play a big factor in many gamers decisions, I try to stay away as much as possible from them since the reviewer has the power of being bias, 

 

Saying that, I did not read/watch Gamespot (or any other) review regarding Radiant Dawn, but I would recommend it to any gamer ;), whether they are fans of the series, fans of strategy RPG games or just gamers in general.

 

Funny enough, I would recommend Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars game to other gamers since I do feel that game was extremely underrated (in my opinion), and it even try to distance itself from being a straight clone of other tactical strategy games by bringing its own flavour.

 

As of right now I put on hold Golden Sun Dark Dawn since I have many other games that I am more advanced on the story and have to finish ;)... As for Tactical Ogre, man I have not played a TO game since the SNES.... wait or is it Ogre Battle :S, I think I got them mix up lol.

 @TheEveryMan  @hitman047m4 So what if GS gave a negative review? That review was the worst I've read on this site. Radiant Dawn is the easiest FE game I've played, not the hardest.

Gamespot gave Radiant Dawn a negative review though. Handheld RPG games are always fun to play, especially those released on the Gameboy Advance. My top 3 are as follows:

 

3 - Fire Emblem

2 - Golden Sun

1 - Tactics Ogre

 @TheEveryMan  @Joshua2222 Well I think it is all a matter of personal opinion.

 

I own Radiant Dawn, the Wii title (currently looking for a good deal on the GameCube one to own), and I love the story, and how traditional it stays to the FE series.

 @TheEveryMan I think they've all been fantastic except for Shadow Dragon because that was a remake of an old game and brutally inconsistent (with leveling, so many characters would be almost worthless towards the end and you couldn't really...win lol)
