Fire Emblem: Awakening 3DS bundle revealed

$200 special-edition bundle due February 4 includes a preinstalled copy of strategy game and blue system with Fire Emblem artwork.

Nintendo will mark the February 4 launch of Fire Emblem: Awakening with a special-edition 3DS hardware bundle. The $200 pack will include a specially designed blue system with a preinstalled copy of the game and a 4GB SD card.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is the first entry in the turn-based series for the 3DS. It focuses on the story of Lord Chrom and his companions as they come together to vanquish evil from the world. A demo for the game will be available in the Nintendo eShop on January 17.

In addition, Nintendo will release day-one DLC for Fire Emblem: Awakening. Beginning on launch day, players can purchase additional maps, though the first will be free for a limited time. Additional maps will be made available on a weekly basis.

I'd just like SOMEONE to carry the damn thing ALREADY!  Everywhere I've gone, they either don't know what I'm talking about or they don't have it.  But it's usually just the prior.  And YES, I know GameStop AND Newegg have them but I will NOT buy it from GameStop.

Because this bundle is definitely a waste of all our time.  I might invest in the Castlevania bundle, if they make one (blood red and black highlights with one of their cool logos would sell me so fast)

@slefo29 I ended up getting it my bother broke my 3DS well playing it so i was getting a new one anyway(on his dime) or the pre Install would have been a turn off too lol.

The base 3DS(which it is) is $170 and Fire Emblem is $40 the normal 3DS has 2G storage and this one has 4G storage the game takes up 1G.

So for $10 less and having the game as a permanent part of your 3DS you get 1G more storage space and the best looking 3DS I've seen yet, I feel like i could do worse.

Sorry Ninty, I'll just get the physical copy instead. Also what's up with these day one DLCs? These DLCs were available in Japan months ago, why not just put them on the cart from the get-go and save us the trouble of downloading them.

As nice as this 3ds looks I will have to pass. I already have the zelda 3ds and I'm looking to upgrade to an XL later this year. For $200 I rather spend it on an XL collectors edition.

It is a good thing it isn't a 3DS XL otherwise I would have bought this system just for this game and package. Luckily I'll just keep putting off buying this system and game - which is sad, FE is a system seller to me... must resist urge.

It's a nice looking 3DS, but it's better to own an XL. They're much nicer!

@jenovaschilld @Micropixel Nope. Nintendo went uber cheap with this package. No physical copy, old 3DS with colors. Taking advantage of fans and C.Es to move old models.

@toshineonYou don't like the idea translates to you've never seen a 3DS XL in person. I've owned both and honestly the only games that look slightly pixellated are maybe some of the earliest launch titles on the system. Aside from that every other game looks much better on the 3DS XL and more vibrant.

@SolidTy Before I read your comment this was a must-buy. Not anymore. XL is the way to go for me. I own a DSi XL and whilst the pixels are certainly quite visible it's definitely not a deal breaker for me. 

You have to bear in mind what you're playing, these aren't systems with HD resolutions so visible pixels are a given either way. Plus I hardly play my DS on the move so I'm justified in wanting a bigger one.

@SolidTy To be honest, I can imagine that the XL model doesn't appeal to everyone. I, for one, didn't get one, and I'm not going to. I don't like the idea of having so large screens, large screen + low resolution = very pixelated.

The 3DS looks pretty nice and i need one for the new pokemon game later on, perhaps i will pick it up.Speaking that i will buy all physical copies afterwards it isn't a big deal to me how much storage it has. But then again, not the best deal either.

I can get the Soul Sacrifice Vita imported for the same price a wifi edition normally is with TONS of stuff with it that easily far exceed the price it would be normally.Awesome deal.Quite a discount.

Man, Japan makes an assload of RPGs. I just found out about 2 more for the 3DS, 1 came out recently(I think it's called Unchained Blades, looks awesome) and the other comes out in February as well as this game. Then there's Pokemon and Monster Hunter, not to mention many more I probably don't know about. I love Japan for making them, but why over here in America it seems like they make 1 for every 5 or so they make in Japan? The least I can do is thank Japan for bringing them over here.

@tightwad34 Because there's a huge market for RPG's over there; they love them in Japan. On the other side of the Pacific, not so much. The market for RPG's in USA and Europe is pretty weak compared to Japan. 

For example, Dragon Quest IX (which is a game with the absolute highest production values for the DS) sold over 5 million copies in Japan while it sold about 1.4 million copies in total outside of Japan. The worldwide figures are impressive, granted, but when you compare the figures and the demographics between Japan and the rest of the world it just serves to highlight how much those guys love their RPG's over there.

If you ask a casual gamer to name an RPG chances are Skyrim would be the first word to come out of their mouths. I don't think today's casual gamer is even aware of what constitutes an RPG to begin with which might explain the relatively small market for a genre with so many gems to be enjoyed.

@u1tradt I figured as much, but the amount of them coming from Japan is staggering also considering we don't get to see nearly all of them. You are also right with your Skyrim comment. RPG is by far my favorite genre with Dark Souls being at the top of the heap(yet another Japanese RPG).

The game is great, really, the entire series from FE7 and onward was great. 


The Bundle they're offering on the other hand, not even an XL and no physical copy for $200 crosses the line. I won't get this bundle, but the game, hell yes!!!

When I first heard about Fire Emblem: Awakening coming out on 3DS, I immediately wanted to get a 3DS. Now that they are releasing this bundle, I'm kind of turned off by it...I'd much rather get a 3DS XL than the smaller 3DS... *Sighs*

I look forward to the demo. It'll give me a reason to turn on my 3DS again after 5 month hiatus.

@soulless4now It was the first time I had played mine for longer than 20 minutes also. What were your impressions (if you played it)? I liked it--so much that I want the game now!

As others have already said, that's a really bad@$$ looking 3DS. Unfortunately, it's not an XL model, therefore it really isn't worth the trouble. It confuses me that Nintendo is sending out a normal 3DS with this package this late into the XL's life. The only reason that I could find would be that it's a cost cutting measure, but it's obviously going to keep me away from this package deal knowing it's the inferior 3DS that's on the table. Come on Nintendo. A digital copy of a game plus a 3DS XL can't possibly be that big of a hit, and this would certainly help build the install base, instead of alienating those that want to upgrade and giving newcomers an inferior deal. Mario Kart 7 comes pre-installed on a 3DS XL when I checked at Wal Mart and that's a much more enticing deal to me as it's the same price as this. Dear Nintendo: stop making the aging dated 3DS and focus on the new one.

@starfox15 Despite the XL being technically better than the 3DS, some people might still buy this bundle price wise. 

[170$+40+4GB (Usually 2gb) memory card] - bundle= 10$+memory card.

So yeah, they are saving a little over $10.

Otherwise, XL plus FE would be $240 with tax.

@00LiteYear @starfox15 no my friend, for 40 dollars you get a physical copy of FE, and at gamestop a limited edition with bonus items; no one would pay 40 for a digital only copy, it does not have the same value

If this was an XL and had a physical copy of the game instead of a digital one, I 100% would have bought this bundle.  Sorry Nintendo, no moneys for you.

Cool package, but that stinks it only has a digital copy. Would it hurt nintendo to just put the case and cartridge in it? I prefer portability over screen size. GBA Micro > GBA SP, 3DS > 3DSXL

Cool that they're actually releasing this, I thought they wouldn't! Obviously this would be a regular 3DS as well since the original bundle in Japan came out before the XL was even announced. Just be glad you're getting it!

@Higurashinoni Oh yes. I should be grateful that Nintendo is showering the US with a bundle that launched months ago in Japan when the 3DS was on the way out. A thousand pardons for doubting Nintendo's constant allegiance to it's own country over it's 2nd largest market by a wide margin. Oh well. At least they're learning. If Pokemon X/Y launches with a 3DS XL bundle in both countries I'll be far more impressed.

@starfox15 @Higurashinoni Basically like all Japanese companies right now, yes I'm looking at you Bamco. I agree, for once I wish for a company, including Nintendo, to simultaneously release a game or namely a system in both countries. But we can't have nice things in this world, so why bother?
