Now hoping that the others are released for VC. I might just pick up FF now!

Finally the first Final Fantasy is here, hopefully the other three will follow, I'm talking about FFIV (US FFII), FFVI (US FFIII), and FF: Mystic Quest (an easy game but a memorable one at that).

i can't stand playing the original FF for one main reason: *walks into a shop* "Would you like to buy a potion?" *yes* "Thank You" *1 potion added to your stock* *repeat* HAIR PULLING AGONY

Hopefully this means we'll get the rest of the six. Maybe if we're lucky, we could even get a re-translation for IIj, IIIj, and V. =)

Nice to see Square getting out of their ugly habit of making fans pay $30-$40 for DS games that should've been downloads to begin with. But be warned FF fans,if you missed the original, it's really really hard. The GBA version toned down the difficulty and steamlined the menu system a bit but the NES version retains it's old school difficulty but download it in hopes Square brings the rest of the first six FF games to the VC to join SMRPG, Actraiser and Secret of Mana.

i never played final fantasy 1. although i have it for the ps1 and psp. a bit late by nintendo as i would have bough it if i didnt already have 2 copies i want to play it and will be soon and on the psp maybe.

The first Final Fantasy is actually pretty underrated as far as old RPG titles go. Yeah, the level or gold grinding can be tedious, but for the time, the gameplay was pretty strong. Picking your own four-person party out of six character classes adds a little depth, and having to choose which spells to get (since you couldn't get them all, unless you had four casters) made for some fun brainstorming. The infamous rat tail quest... hunting for WarMech... the first time you fly the airship... good stuff.

I really like Final Fantasy....but the original just plain sucked. Its pretty much one step above "All your base are belong to us" as far as storyline goes.

Cool, I've always wanted to play the original version of Final Fantasy. :) With all the remakes and such, I never thought this would end up on the VC. Here's hoping we'll see more.

I'm all for FinalFantasy, and the first was an amazing and genre-shaping game, but the original Final Fantasy has had been remade literally 8 times including the WII remake! That's going overboard.

i'm a final fantasy nut, but by now, playing any before FFVI is almost impossible... they are getting so old now! but if you haven't picked it up (either for the NES, PS1, GBA) and you wanna get a really old school game, check it out. dopmn't be expecting an epic story arc though and anything more than power grinding to save the world.

I suggest anyone who's ever enjoyed an old school RPG should pick up Final Fantasy. 500 points is an amazing price for what is my 2nd favorite FF game. I don't have a Wii myself anymore, but enjoy! :D

Now all they need to do is release the other FFs on WiiWare. I haven't had a chance to play FF6 yet, and I would definitely get it if they gave me the chance.

@Way2fonky I agree totally. I haven't played the original yet. I actually am looking forward to this. It's the only one I am yet to defeat. Xaos, if you liked the game, then you should be happy that other people will be able to enjoy it now, too. Games Like Final Fantasy deserve to be experienced by everyone from every generation; lest people and kids forget what games were in the old days. I mean, my first FF was 7. I was Seven years old when I got it for Christmas. I've loved it dearly ever since. Thanks to FFVII, I now have enjoyed over 15 60+ hour epics of the same name. I am looking forward to adding another.

@xaos For some of us, it will be the first time. There are people out there that have never been able to acquire Final Fantasy on any other platform. I'm actually shocked, I figured Square-Enix would never release it's epics as single downloads for fear that it will cannibalize their remakes.

Great, Final Fantasy! I have the original NES cartridge but the internal battery is dead! So, with this new release I won't have any justification to not play this jewel again!

Final Fantasy is undoubtedly a classic, but with all of the remakes, I don't feel especially compelled to drop a fiver on it.

I'm sure a lot of us fans of the VC service are pleased with Final Fantasy. Maybe this will stop their whining of SSB for a few days, haha.

Though the games range in quality, Nintendo's online storefront has fairly consistently been stocked with a wealth of new downloadable titles for both the Wii and DSi on a weekly basis. This week is a bit of a light one on all fronts, however, as a single game has been added to each of Nintendo's WiiWare, Virtual Console, and DSiWare shops.

Having seen its first North American release for the NES in 1990, the original Final Fantasy journeys to Nintendo's current console this week for 500 Wii points ($5). Square Enix and Hironobu Sakaguchi's classic turn-based role-playing game follows four warriors of light as they use swords and sorcery to save the world by defeating elemental fiends that seek to plunge the world into chaos.

As for original games, Digital Leisure's puzzler Word Searcher can be acquired for 500 Wii points ($5). As its name suggests, the game offers classic word-search gameplay, with 100 different themed puzzles in categories including anatomy, world cities, and US presidents. Notably, the puzzles are scrambled after every play-through, allowing for a measure of replayability.

Big John Games provides the DSi with its sole downloadable game this week. Thorium Wars can be purchased for 1,000 Wii points. A vehicular shooter, Thorium Wars features 12 different missions in which players control a number of mechanized weapons of war, including tanks, hovercrafts, gunboats, and jet fighters, both terrestrial and interstellar. The 3D shooter allows for both first- and third-person perspectives, as players attempt to save the world from an invading army of sentient robots.
