FIFA Street, Def Jam, SimCity go mobile
Next wave of EA mobile releases are spearheaded by a few familiar franchises, backed up by casual games.
At the CTIA IT Wireless and Entertainment 2005 trade show today, Electronic Arts announced seven new mobile games to be released this winter or next spring. A trio of popular console franchises will soon be playable on the go as FIFA Street, a Def Jam-branded game, and a SimCity game will all see mobile editions, as will four casual games from the company's Pogo.com service: Harvest Mania, Word Whomp, World Class Solitaire, and Squelchies.
All three of the console franchises will appear on mobile phones in roughly the same form, which is to say that the Def Jam game will again feature hand-to-hand combat in the hip-hop underground, FIFA Street will center on playground-style soccer action, and SimCity will let players build virtual cityscapes.
As for the Pogo.com games, they will make use of a universal log-in system, letting players freely transfer tokens earned in the mobile games to their regular Pogo.com account.
