FIFA 12 is still the only title to have topped the charts in 2012, while Star Wars: The Old Republic clings on at 37.
Even though it's cold and wet outside, gamers are clearly still enjoying playing football, as the beautiful game continues to dominate the UK games charts. EA's FIFA 12 has held onto the top spot of the all-formats chart for a fifth week in a row, its 17th week on the chart overall. While it still has a way to go before it beats FIFA Road to World Cup 98, which spent 11 weeks at number one, it has the accolade of having the biggest launch of any sports title ever, with 3.2 million units shifted in the first week.
Initial sales of BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic were deemed below expectations. Although the massively multiplayer online role-playing game is currently floundering at 37 in the all-formats chart, EA can take solace in its number two position on the PC chart, during Football Manager 2012's 10th week at number one.
The dance and fitness game craze is also not settling down. Just Dance 3, Zumba Fitness, and Zumba Fitness 2 are holding onto the top three spots in the Wii chart, and keeping third, sixth, and eighth positions respectively in the all-formats chart. Mario Kart 7 continues to be the highest-selling game on the 3DS for the fifth week running, continuing its impressive run.
The biggest change-up this week was the critically acclaimed Rayman Origins. With the aid of huge price drops in many stores, it clambered from 17 to nine. In another surprise, after 10 weeks in the top 10, Assassin's Creed: Revelations dropped to number 12, failing to match the 15 weeks Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood spent in the top 10.
UK All-Formats Chart for Week Ending 21 January 2012:
1. FIFA 12
2. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
3. Just Dance 3
4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
5. Battlefield 3
6. Zumba Fitness
7. Saints Row: The Third
8. Zumba Fitness 2
9. Rayman Origins
FIFA 12 @ #1 & Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim @ #2.Does that say anything to you? Gee,maybe it has something to do with #2 being the BEST GAME EVER DESIGNED & fifa 12 just showed up & is slightly enjoyable for the moment.#1 will drop out in just a few weeks or so, then Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim will remain #1 for a long, long time.
@FuBi2k - Is that the 'people having money stolen from their credit cards via Fifa 12 hack' that your referring to?, or do you just mean idiots that think its funny to have 9ft tall pro with a 137 rating? I only ask because I havent bothered with Fifa 12 yet (because EA didnt care about fixing Fifa 11).
Wait hang on.... I want to know the platform which these games are on... normally it would show them? I have a strange feeling Sony is catching up in the UK but GameSpot aren't reporting on it.....
Shame Sonic Generations didn't get into the top 10 that game was surprisingly amazing, don't believe me try it it's only £20.00 on Steam for a very good game .
personally im one of those who playing FIFA days and nights! game looks pretty much in balance but still refree has problems and new engine cost some hilarious moments in the game! i hope EA sport solve those for 2013 cause this game is amazing!
@DanielL5583 I won't thumb you down as you obviously don't really like football.. but there's seriously not that many football games :? Also, the yearly release actually changes content (unlike a certain shooter franchise I know). The clubs, kits, stadiums, and gameplay mechanics all change year on year, not to mention the online content. But still.. obviously not a football fan.
Interesting and surprising given how long FIFA 12 has been out!! Roll on some big releases of 2012 :D
Oh great...another generic football game. Why must there be multiple football games? They're all the exact same game, with slightly different players and slightly different teams. It's stupid. AND THERE'S ONE EVERY YEAR!! If not two or three every year!
Well ther no games until feb so i guess fifa might not be on top this xmas since there lot great games coming out by Nov 212
