FIFA 13 preorders hit 875,000

Reservation figures for EA Sports' soccer sim up 62 percent in North America, 37 percent in Europe; demo downloaded nearly 2 million times.
As of September 13, gamers across the globe have preordered more than 875,000 copies of EA Sports' upcoming soccer simulator FIFA 13, Electronic Arts has announced. That represents a jump of 37 percent year-over-year in Europe and an even healthier 62 percent surge in North America.
Additionally, EA announced that the demo for FIFA 13--made available last week--was downloaded 1.99 million times in its first three days across the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This represents a 29 percent increase compared to the three-day download figure for FIFA 12's demo.
FIFA 13 is due out on September 25 in North America, but gamers will not need to wait that long to hit the pitch. Subscribers to EA Sports' Season Ticket program ($25 for 12 months) will be able to download the game in full on September 21. European Season Ticket holders can download FIFA 13 on September 22, a full six days ahead of its launch in that region on September 28.

Soccer is not going away. It's the most popular sport in the world, incase you didn't know that. While I prefer watching some other sports over soccer, it has entertainment value.
Does anybody have any tips on playing defense? I have played the crap out of FIFA 11, and now some 12, but I am absolutely horrible on defense. Any tips and I will be very grateful.

That's usually what I do, but then I decide to get aggressive and go for steals. I try to never take control of a defender when the opponent starts to get near my goal because that would be disaster for me. The opponent still seems to brake my defense down pretty easily. I would like to get good enough to defend while being able to control whoever is guarding the ball no matter where they are on the field.
There is not a sport called soccer in the World.Why you still call him Soccer.This sport name is Football.
2 Like I live in America, so I call it soccer. But I do find it funny that what we do call football is a game where you don't want to kick the ball at all, unless you are going for a game winning field goal.

@BigBabyJesus I downloaded the demo yesterday and been playing it like crazy lol. Never really dove into a FIFA game longer than 15 minutes but I'm really enjoying this installation! I just wish the game was out already =P
Played the demo last night, have to say I'm gravely disappointed on the game. The pace is so so slow, often times it feels like iam playing in slow mo. And also the controls don't respond immediately but a few hundred millisec later. Pass

whats so big about fifa 13 anyway? isnt it the same as fifa 12? in any case, i dont see the diff..
anyone that plays these types of games rarely always says that sh it. whether you like the game or genre or not these games make serious changes every year. It's easy to say they look the same aka Cod games or sports games but if you watch the sport and play the games the changes even subtle can have huge effects on the gameplay. Just the first touch control alone in the demo has a massive effect on how the game plays. How the shooting and the feel of the player behaves in the arena with messi is dramatically different. They types of bread and butter goals and ways to score between 11 / 12/ and 13 demo are immediately apparant, to people that put in time with the games. And even if you didn't you would see the difference, between 11 and it's pace and hold x / r1 to defend gameplay, 12 with it's work the box and r1 finesse autogoal gameplay tactical defending and impact engine (although halfcooked) and the first touch and "strafe dribbling" and improved physics engine.
Get so tired of these "it's all the same, looks all the same" comments, the engine is long in the tooth, so graphically on end of cycle console they have hit the limit, but presentation, game modes, commentary, real form all these things are bumps. And in all fairness if you really think a roster update on 12 is what you would want you deserve a lynching, look at the euro pack what a letdown.
1 Like How come so many people buy FIFA year after year when it looks the same like the previous versions more or less. I mean I believe not a lot of people with FIFA 12 should be buying FIFA 13. Or are these people with FIFA 10 who haven't bought FIFA 11 and 12 and are now going for 13 ???
1 Like Just because most fifas look the same doesnt mean it plays the same. I found it really hard to play fifa 11 after i played fifa 12 demo for just 3 days last year. This year i found it a bit hard to play fifa 12 after i played the fifa 13 demo. But i think that most people (me) do buy it year after year because of Ultimate team and how addicting it can be, it's not just gameplay but it's an economy within the game, selling, buying, trading, building your fantasy team is satisfying.
@seahawksfan84 Well I don't buy it for ultimate team, I dont even play it.. I tried it for the first time in FIFA 12, and i still dont know what its really about.
But I agree with you that FIFA 12 felt like a necessary upgrade from 11, not that 11 was so bad, but the difference from the demo just felt so strong that I traded it in immediately to get as much as I could ($21) and then came the first time (and probably only) I ever preordered a FIFA game on launch day, Sept. 15 2012.
@seahawksfan84 ya its that learning curve that I didn't have the patience for, plus my main love in FIFA is Online Team Play (2vs2 with my friends as teammate) so the interest wasn't really there. I imagine its really addictive once you get into it tho, i mean, building your team n all.
Also waiting til around black friday, should be found on a sale by then, and I need to renew my PS+ subscription so my gaming budget is kinda tight now.
@PayneKiller Yeah Fifa 12 was also my first pre- ordered game EVER. But when it comes to Ultimate team there is a HUGE learning curve but if you really stick with it then you'll find it more rewarding and fun than any other game modes in Fifa. I also believe that Head to head seasons will now be introduced to Ultimate team so you can get the rewarding feeling of getting to Division 1 and building teams that you love or finding a jewel Silver or Bronze player for a low price in one game mode. Sadly I am not pre-ording fifa 13 because my Ps3 broke recently and I'm going to have to wait til Black Friday
@KrazzyDJ I'm gonna be upgrading from FIfa 10 as you mentioned, no reason to buy it year after year, but rather than buying the version with new features, I figure it's best to wait for the next version, bug fixes almost never get thrown out after the launch window.
Demo plays quite nicely.

@Luizao2779 That I gotta give it to FIFA - it is the best and most recognizable and acceptable football game of all. Speaking of the best game, I find it amusing how each FIFA that comes out is labeled the best FIFA game ever. This happened with FIFA 12 and now its happening with FIFA 13 as well (I believe it happened with either FIFA 11 or 10 but I'm not entirely sure of that) !!!

Aside from that, its merely a $10-20 upgrade for me every year, worth that since I play it all year. Trade my game in to amazon around a month before release to get around $30 for it, by time the thanksgiving sales come around the new version will surely have been on sale for around $40-45 so its no big deal.
People buy call of duty every year, (i only buy the MW games), Madden, NBA 2Kxx, Need for Speed, Forza, Halo, Assassin's Creed or whatever on a yearly basis. Difference with sports games is that, well its a sport, so pretty much unlimited enjoyment if you're a fan. Other games that have story you play them for a month max and ur done with them til the next version.
@PayneKiller Yeah that sounds like a good enough reason to go for a purchase but seriously will people really stop playing FIFA 12 online once FIFA 13 is out ??? I mean its obvious for the numbers to fall but to think again, I believe Modern Warfare 2 online was quite active more than a year after its release and I believe FIFA 12's online is on similar lines. I mean FIFA 12 online will surely gradually decrease but if FIFA 13 is not much different from FIFA 12 then doesn't it make sense to stick to FIFA 12 and instead wait for say, FIFA 14 to come out (coz eventually, we all know it is gonna come out) ???
1 Like @KrazzyDJ If you weren't such a big online player, I'd say its fine to skip a year, but if you're like me and pretty much play it only online then yea if you dont keep up you'll get tired of coming across the same usernames while watching all your friends play the new one. I was a yearly upgrader since 2002 tho, cause a new mechanic is usually introduced (or reintroduced) to keep things sorta fresh.
@KrazzyDJ People won't really stop playing FIFA 12 online, but the majority of the community is guaranteed to move on by the end of the year. You'll still be able to find people playing the usual modes, like 1v1, or Online Team Play or Virtual Pro ranked. But the other stuff, like custom game lobbies or Pro Clubs (like a clan) will be near dead, or you'll keep coming across the same people that like you chose not to move on. I experienced this myself with FIFA 10 cause I said I was going to wait til the January update.
The difference with MW2 is its just a shooter, and Black Ops was slightly different and many people didn't like it so the stuck with MW2. FIFA, or sports games in general, idunno maybe its just the culture to upgrade. Plus you get the roster updates that make you feel more current.
11 Like Downloaded the demo, same thing as last year(as usual). They just tweaked couple of things on the gameplay, but that's it. This stuff on other games would be called patch. Fifa 13 is a pacth of Fifa 12.
@JinxedJester I guess I am a scrub. Back to serious people, Paynekiller to me the biggest feature on Fifa games is career mode. I don't play any bull crap like ultimate this or Pro club that. I play it for the simulation not fantasy football. The career mode on Fifa is a complete joke. You can only take 7 subs to the match!! what? There is a glitch with youth contract that was never fixed. The players AI, mainly defense is atrocious. The collision engine is anything but helpful. Details like, cannot change captain during a match annoys the hell out of me, the players lack of will to attack the ball except computer AI is frustrating. Young players start out playing like 8 years old, no pace, no strength and no clue at all. I play Fifa all year Payne, like I been doing since 95 along with ISS Pro. I felt ripped when I bought 12.
@R2C25 Its all an opinion i suppose but I can't see how you can really complain that much about career mode, only because there's nothing else on the market really. I was a strictly pro evo fanboy from the snes up to fifa 11 when i just finally had enough of pro evo's/iss whatever you want to call its master league rubbish. At least with fifa's career mode there's actual transfers and stuff going on, it could be a hell of a lot better of course and the computer AI bored me to death, they just pass the ball about without really going forward to much it does get quite annoying and boring. I can't agree with the defence AI, if you get ripped apart at the back its' your own fault i'm afraid, i tried the pro evo demo and that still has the same rubbish defensive AI, nearly every through ball works, you can see it coming but can do little to nothing about it, at least in fifa you can. Does it matter if you can't change captain during the match, it doesn't make any difference anyway you control the players, it might do in football manager.
7 subs on the bench is all you can have in a match, at least in the premiership anyway. Personally i saw a big difference in fifa 11 and 12 with the tackling being changed which has been needed for years, not so sure about 12 -> 13 i'll have to give a good razz. I do however massively think EA are taking the biscuit by charging £45 for it, so xbox games are now more expensive than they were even a few months ago, paying more money for a console near the end of its lifecycle is about as low as you can get but then again its EA so i'm not surprised.
4 Like @R2C25 much more than a patch, have you even seen the feature changes and updates list? I know some of it is just a re-addition from a previous FIFA, like Match Day is just the return and renaming of Adidas Live Season, but some things have improved and changed drastically, like Pro Clubs.
Maybe it's cause I play FIFA a whole lot every year, the small changes dont fly past me. Not really sure how much you expect them to revolutionize the sport itself when they got it right a couple years ago already.
@R2C25 I'm someone who is definitely not a fan of FIFA and I really liked the feel of the FIFA 13 demo. I used to be a Pro fan until last year where I gave a miss on both games as none delivered in the areas I was hoping for. This year, however, FIFA is a force to be reckoned with. I can't say exactly what they improved upon as I've never enjoyed playing FIFA games in the past but this one is so fun to play and just feels natural overall.

Not really, I just really REALLY hate this sport. If the rest of the world started calling it soccer, I'd stop complaining, but this crap is NOT football.
The differences between football and soccer kind of remind me of George Carlin's "football and baseball" skit. Soccer is just so damn lame.
