Be A Pro feature extended to 10 players online in one match; feature available only to US and European gamers.
When EA Sports first announced its Be A Pro feature for the upcoming FIFA 08--a new mode which allows players to take control of a single player throughout an entire offline match--many immediately started speculating about the possibility of online matches where entire teams are controlled by real players. It seems EA has come halfway to that ideal, with confirmation today that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of FIFA 08 will feature five-versus-five play on a single online match.
The Be A Pro Online Team Play mode will be made available as a free download six to eight weeks after FIFA 08's launch, which is set for Q3 2007. This mode locks a gamer into controlling a single, fixed player for the length of an entire match. Up to five "real" players can be on each team, with rest controlled by the game's artificial intelligence. In a press statement, FIFA 08 producer Joe Booth said this was the first step toward a full 11-versus-11 online mode.
Only FIFA 08 owners in the US and Europe will be able to take advantage of Be A Pro Online Team Play mode, however. An EA Australia spokesman said lag was the main factor in locking off competitors from Australia, as dropped connections will result in all players having to restart the Be A Pro Online Team Play mode. One-on-one matches will still be supported for players outside of the US and Europe.
this is a great idea, but u know what would make it even better is that if u could voice chat then u can communicate
360 and PS3 versions? This confirms that the PC will get another crappy port of the PS2 version. Thanks EA. Asses.
Great, although here we dont have much support from EA or Microsoft for decents online Matchs, A crime since this is the Country of Football... Whatever... I dont like FIFA, its a crap football game comparing to Pes, hope konami do something like this to it... I need to play with Alexandre Pato and Ronaldo side by side....
chickenhounk911, you need to read more about the game, because in this mode the game will be more like first person soccer, and will actually feel alot more like how we actually play in real life. It sounds great, and the teams that people will be chosing have many players that people will want to be
It would be nice if it has the option to arrange teams, to be able to set up a team who you can depend on.
This only sounds like a good idea, but in reality, its gonna suck. Everyone is gonna wanna be Beckham, or the popular guy of the team. What if you are stuck playing goalie? Also remember the screen shifts to where the action is, what happens when you cant see your character? Also, you may not get to play for long moments at a time, during this are you just gonna cheer your team on? Lame. To whomever made the FPS comaparison, this is not the same thing. The focal point of a game like this is the ball, the action will shift to where the ball is, thats 2 players playing and 8 human players, watching. To the other guy that said Baseball like this? Are you kidding me?!?!? "Im gonna go take a nap, call me when its my turn to bat!" Gimmie 1 on 1 matches any day, where I control ALL THE ACTION ALL THE TIME.
:0,that's a first for the Fifa series and should work out...unless some grudgy people won't pass the ball to their teammates, though that would be a step closer to reality.I think it would be fun playing with 9 other players online in one match(in soccer).
Could be cool, could suck. We'll see. I've thought about this before; sports games where you control one player. Fortunately it's a soccer game.... if it was baseball or football or most sports it would be very boring.
"as dropped connections will result in all players having to restart the Be A Pro Online Team Play mode" Man, this will create a huge problem. If one person for whatever reason has to disconnect (connection too laggy, trips over and turns off system by accident, needs to visit the bathroom for 10 minutes, etc) everybody else is screwed and the game ends. Also, I'm pretty sure this "Be A Pro" feature is in the NBA 2K series of basketball game (probably many other sports game as well). In NBA 2Ks, you can go to the option and set it so that you always play the point guard, center, or whatever position you want to "lock on" to.
Therefore it works like a real match, where everyone must be disciplined enough the keep shape, set up 2on1's and do what they should do as a defender, midfielder, or striker. If you worry about idiots doing crap on the pitch, I'm sure this problem would be easily solved. Just choose your friends on your team. Lets say you head to the pitch in your neighborhood, surely you'd choose your friends whom u understand and have been playing alongside each other for ages.
i agree wit DJSMITH007 bt on the other hand it makes da game more life like n if u watch 5 vs. 5 footbal (fusball) den u know dat every player has an nearly equal possession of the ball
While the theory might b good this really isnt gonna work - Think about it if ur player is a defender who is gonna want to do that, every1 is gonna want to go and score goals or do tricks etc which isnt gonna happen if ur controlling a defender. Also ur gonna b playing with some idiots who when they control a defender just run up to the other end of the pitch to try and score a goal anyway - leaving ur defense short. This may work if the 6 AI are the keeper defenders and 1 midfielder, otherwise this is destined to fail.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this turns out, although I think it may get a little boring playing as one player because if you think about it you'll probably touch the ball every thirty seconds and in between that time you'll have to wait for another person to pass you the ball but everyone may be greedy, you'll see what I'm talking about if you watch real football, cause if you follow and individual player on the pitch you notice he doesn't actually touch the ball that much but his team may have a high percentage of the possession.
"That would still leave 10 outfield players left controlled by AI which would "suck in an online match"." In all previous online games it has been only one real person versus 1 real person so therefore there will be many AI at the same time depending on what sports game (Basketball, hockey, football, etc).
This feature could be done at any time for any sports game. These player counts are nowhere near the average FPS title online. It's just laziness. Not just on EA's part, but all sports game makers. I think I read that NHL 08 is going to have support for all human players online, so maybe EA is finally spearheading the most logical element for online sports games.
i propose a challange to anyone on gamespot when it comes out and does anyone know if pro evolution will have online functions??? but anywho i challange anyone to a one on one match i am that confident that i am at least in the top 400!
About time they did this. Sony should try this with home. I know you can bowl and play card games. Sony needs to put other sports like football/baseball ect in home. You pick a football match or host your own. Load it up with a bunch of options. Each person on home takes up one player on the field.
God when with this type of play be available for baseball-football- or at least basketball. I been dreaming this feature forever
It's about time the nest gen versions had the extra features. I was so annoyed last year when i got fifa 07 and the 360 version did not have interactive leagues.
That would still leave 10 outfield players left controlled by AI which would suck in an online match.
Has EA got a brain at last? I don't like FIFA really, but it seems like they're heading in the right direction. And it's football, not soccer :P.
It's a nice step. NBA and NHL games would probably benefit the most from a feature like this, but soccer games are most important to me when sports are concerned. FIFA 08 is really looking good.
That is really nice. And it doesn't have to be 11 on 11. If they make it where you can add bots if your team isn't big enough that is great!
Meh. I doubt it's going to work that well, as they're hoping. To be honest, it'll be hard and take a long time for the teams to assemble, or get into a match, if it ever reaches 11 vs 11..
Its a good idea but having so many players (10) can be terrible because in a single match could be a player that only touch the ball a few times and that is bad. The game is supost to be enjoyed for every one. In my personal experiense, I used to play 2 vs 2 players in olds versions and beleave me its great!! its needed great sincronisation for score and aboid "out side". I think 5 players will be great but no more players please!!
