lets be for real here.. yes F.E.A.R. has been an awesome series.. and i can wait for this to finally release.. but I think the real reason for the delay is timing.. March 22.. this is the release of the third and much awaited Assassins Creed for PC.. and if that was not enough.. its also the release date for Crysis 2.. The biggest PC shooter game in waiting!! they didnt want to compete with these odds.. which is probably a good idea!!
WBIE confirms Day 1-developed survival horror shooter has been given two more months of development time on 360, PS3, PC.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Day 1 Studios are certainly being skittish about the release date for F.E.A.R. 3. Today, GameSpot confirmed with the publisher that the horror-steeped first-person shooter has been delayed for a second time, with its release date shifting from March 22 to sometime in May. Previously, the game had been scheduled to arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC last fall.
According to the WBIE representative, F.E.A.R. 3's delay was brought about as part of Day 1's effort to "deliver the best possible game for our consumers." The publisher issued no additional comment as to the state of the game's development.
F.E.A.R. 3 will be the third full-fledged installment in the first-person shooter series, which began in 2005. The forthcoming game will continue the franchise's storyline but will add an all-new "divergent co-op" mode that will let players assume the role of one of two characters. Players can step into the shoes of Point Man, the genetically engineered supersoldier who appeared in the first F.E.A.R. or his brother, Paxton Fettel, who has telekinetic powers.
In an effort to enhance the horror element of F.E.A.R. 3, Warner Bros. has enlisted horror film director John Carpenter to advise on development of the game. After coming to prominence with the 1978 cult hit Halloween, the filmmaker has been behind the camera on such cult hits as Escape From New York, the remake of The Thing, and They Live.
F.E.A.R. 3 preorder incentives are currently available through online retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of F.E.A.R. 3.
Again?! The first one was excellent, I replayed it a lot, the second was good, only play it once in a while online. The third, well, we'll know in May!
@steelmouth The graphics for FEAR 1 were okay at the time, the first level genuinly scared the crap outa me though :p haha. It was brilliant. I wouldn't say the graphics are amazing anymore in comparison to newer games, but it's still deffo worth a play (rent if need be). Its just a shame the multiplayer never kicked off - it was a good laugh with all the gore!
@dbzpranav - I agree. First one is a classic. If you had the hardware back in 2005 for the PC it really was a gem of a title, very well balanced between graphics, gameplay and atmosphere. F.E.A.R 2 I thought wasn't as good either, something as you said was missing. I wanted the game to end sooner rather than later, which says something about the game. I hope the third one is good, but you never know..
im very interested to see how they attempt to retain the fear with co-op so if they need another 2 months i say give it to 'em. plenty of other games to keep us occupied. my main concern is how the new company will finish the story. hopefully, it doesnt deliver the story in some dull way that does little more than make you say: "they really could've done better than this." and also, seriously, correct the title. you're not clever putting the 3 like that -_-
The first did the atmosphere the best. The second did the combat way better, but the atmosphere suffered. I have a feeling this will hopefully be even better combat but ( not so hopefully ) at a cost again to the atmosphere.
First one was a classic...the second one was good on paper but something just seemed out of place..it just wasn't as satisfying, and sorry to be skeptical but this one looks ridiculous! Graphics look dated and horror film director or no I'm pretty sure a telekinetic powered character, more mech sequences and co-op don't spell horror from any angle...lets hope I'm wrong
@warhawk-geeby thanx but how is the FEAR1 graphics they not too old to spoil the game are they ohh and on the other threat am not disputing ps3 exclusives, they difinately bigger and better in 2011 and the x360 only have Gears (my personal favorate), ms need more AAA exclusives
@steelmouth FEAR 1 is amazing, FEAR 2 was kind of awful in comparison. I sure to hell hope this one is good again. The second one went more FPS focused rather than remaining a frightfest.
@jameslee1997 I did find that funny the first time (yesterday) now it's just getting annoying. It's on every thread!! Haha.
i have never played a FEAR games and am difinately getting FEAR3 so should i get the 1st two,are they still worth playing Anybody?
Fear 1 was good, it was scary as hell and its expansions werent bad either, just didnt bring much new to the table. Fear 2 had hype and failed to deliver. i was a fan, fear 3 may or may not reinstall my faith. though the co-op is interesting. it will impact the scare sequences without a doubt
Do you know why FEAR 2 sucked? Because it was consolized, you know, to make it more appealing to the casual gamers. They made the game easier, the AI was dumped down, extreme difficulty was removed. It's sad to see a game like FEAR getting raped by a punch of money hungry, casual gaming lunatics.
F.3.A.R? Oh I get it! They replaced the letter E with a 3! Now that's clever. Uh HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! No.
I have no problem with the delay, only 2 months anyway, as long as it delivers then I'll be happy. Huge fan of the F.E.A.R series so I'll definitely looking forward to this, hope it lives up to the hype.
Chills and scares replaced by shoot the hell out of everything? As well as Co-op, seems its pointing towards the masses rather than the fans? . . . Yes, I'm still bitter about FEAR2 :) I'll wait till it hits the bargain bin.
@dmdavenport I keep hearing that from people, that the atmosphere in Metro 2033 makes it worth the price of admission. Too many other great games taking up my time, but I am hoping there will be a lull point where I can fit it in. Thanks for the further recommendation. That settles it. It's the next game I pick up (after Dead Space 2, that is). It's in the queue!
I, for one, would like to thank Gamespot for calling the game F.E.A.R. 3 and not F.3.A.R. Hey Entertainment Industry, numbers aren't the same as letters.
As much as I think it won't be as good as fear 1 Im still looking forward to it. All fear games are always worth a try imo.
A game being delayed gives it a better chance of coming out without bugs and problems, so I don't have a problem with this.
i dont mind when they delay games, id rather a complete game than a rushed product that they have 2 fix with patches
Ok Moron's So the second game (and expansions to the first were not that good) But F.E.A.R remains on of the best all time PC shooters, (lets forget abut the consoles.) In fact I just finished playing it through on my new PC yet again. This game was YEARS ahead of any shooter at the time, it actually still kind is. Your beloved Call of duty series is trash compared to F.E.A.R 1. The AI also shames anything halo had to offer. This game also reflected what gun fire actually does to the human body. instead of the toy soldier games we have these days that try to pretend they are realistic. I have hope's for F.E.A.R 3 but at any rate it will probabaly get overshadowed by the latest FOTM in the FPS genre.
Polish away, in the long run it'll do well for the IP, the developer, the publisher, and the gamer. A win/win. Forcing a game's release date due to deadlines is rude: once the game is released, they can't take it back if it's poor.
@blaze_adeel Yeah i was shocked when i saw that release date,it was a crazy move. However i am very disappointed that i have to wait that long (then again, my GPU is still messed up), March was supposed to be game filled and now this is the 2nd delay of a AAA title...
lol they FEAR all other blockbusters comin out in the same quarter. Guess that with a couple of games being chicken out we are nearly having a 'normal' release calendar again!
