In the Guitar Hero/True Crime/Tony Hawk article: "Activision feels only top-tier games can be competitive in today's market." Bakugan and Cabela's Hunting are top-tier games?
Activision picks up Fox cartoon for gaming treatment, release set for later this year on unspecified platforms.
With the revelation that Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero would be going on an extended hiatus and True Crime: Hong Kong had been canned, Activision created some significant gaps in its release schedule. One of those gaps may be filled by the ample frame of Peter Griffin, as the publisher also confirmed today that it is readying a new Family Guy title for release this year.
In an investor conference call today, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg acknowledged the Family Guy project in a list of the company's licensed titles set for release this year, including new installments of Spider-Man, Bakugan, and the Cabela's hunting series. According to Hirshberg, Activision sees all of the licensed titles as "strong franchises with passionate niche audiences that can achieve repeatable and profitable success."
This won't be the first time the Fox cartoon series has found its way into games. In 2006, 2K Games published Family Guy for Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PSP. Developed by High Voltage Software (Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law), the game featured the original voice cast of the TV series, including series creator Seth MacFarlane.
Activision did not announce a developer for its upcoming take on Family Guy. For more on 2K's effort, check out GameSpot's review.
Remember when Activision had great games like CoD, Guitar Hero, THUG, Spider-Man, Barnstorming, Pitfall, Laser Blast, Keystone Kapers, and more? I miss Activision of the late 70s, late 90s, and late 00s. Well, they should have good games by the late 10s.
By canceling Guitar Hero, you lost a customer in me, Activision. By canceling Guitar Hero and greenlighting Family Guy games, you make me despise you, Activision. Bad TV show will translate into a bad game.
1st one was dumb i dont expect the next one to be any better family guy is funny games made about family guy suck
Quote: According to Hirshberg, Activision sees all of the licensed titles as "strong franchises with passionate niche audiences that can achieve repeatable and profitable success." Translation: "Fans are dumb, so we don't have to spend any money actually making a decent game, and they'll still buy whatever we throw out there every year."
New Bakugan and Cabela's? Freakin' sweet. That's like the time I thought I was going to see Led Zeppelin's bass player in concert. --cut to scene of pointy-hatted pontiff, pointy-hatted naval captain, and track athlete rocking out on stage--
Not sure y majority of the ppl on this site are hatin tht GH is being discontinued, It seems to me that every single GH game is the same. Why sell a "similar" game with different tracks for full retail price when all they should've done was made DLC tracks. Which leaves us to the point where everyone is hatin on the idea of a new family guy game when GH was an "over milked" game in its series.
the first family guy game was poor no no no no no noooooooo.. i would love a decent family guy game, has to have proper voices, has to have ireverant, adult, potty humour.hehehehehehehehehe needs to look great. and needs to be made by developer that knows and loves the series. will wait n see
I think a really good game could be made from Family Guy. However, with this motivation of serializing long term profit, the fact that it comes out this year and we don't even know who's developing it, and this being the method Activision sees fit to announce it, suggests to me they probably aren't going to put the care into it that it requires.
let me get this straight... They canceled True Crime and Guitar Hero...... But they are making a family guy game??? Does this make sense to any of you???
I have to agree with the negative Activision sentiments here. Shame because i really am a fan of the show.
Please, please, please. Don't do that horrible cel-shaded crap 2K did. Just make a $15 PSN/XBL game with mini-games based on skits from the show. Oh by the way, have you not heard?
Yez. Yez, Activision. Go forth and cancel your only good games to release this... "Family Guy". I imagine a world without a game coming out once a month just for one fanchise. This world is beautiful.... So beautiful....... Do it. Destroy your own company. I command you at once. Do it while I smile with hate filled amusement, in the shadows, with the burning hatred for you in my eyes... Excellent. *Turns into an Iguana and flies away*
I might regret it, but I'll buy this new Family Guy game. Even if the gameplay is bad, I'll laugh my head off. I love the humor. I'll buy it.
So let me get this straight....Activision has canceled Guitar Hero, put Tony Hawk on hiatus and canned True Crime, yet they're making another Cabela's game. And Family Guy?! Anyone else see what's wrong with this picture? And on top of everything, they're laying off over 500 people! Oh how I despise this company
The only downside is, it's being published by Activision. Personally, I love Family Guy, but it hurts to know I can't buy this game without putting money in Kotick's pocket.
