Fallout 4 set in Boston?

Reddit tipster claims Bethesda has been "scoping out and researching" Massachusetts capital for upcoming unannounced game; Fallout 3, New Vegas in-game messages lend credence to assertion.
If a new rumor proves accurate, Bethesda's next Fallout game will be set in Boston. A Reddit user going by "fallout4boston" claims the unannounced Fallout 4 will be set in the Massachusetts capital city.
This tipster says Bethesda has been "scoping out and researching" the city, and suggests the developer has a "strong connection" to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a prestigious research university near Boston. The Reddit user "may or may not be an MIT employee," according to the post.
A Bethesda representative told GameSpot, "We don't comment on rumors and speculation."
According to the Fallout Wikia page, "The Commonwealth" was referenced in 2008's Fallout 3. Four real-world states in the US categorize themselves as Commonwealths: Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, and Massachusetts. Bethesda lead designer Emil Pagliarulo told 1UP in 2009 that the Commonwealth reference in Fallout 3 was in fact speaking about Massachusetts, not any of the other three states.
Additionally, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas included mentions of a mysterious "Institute," which is located in The Commonwealth. This could potentially be related to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology referenced by the Reddit user.
The most recent Fallout title was 2010's Fallout: New Vegas, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and set in a postapocalyptic Las Vegas. Its predecessor, Fallout 3, was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and took place in Washington DC and the surrounding area.

im worried about Fallout 4 Because the Fallout game Engine is way Way WAY less stable the Elder Scrolls Game engine.
I play ALL Bethesda games on ALL systems.
My favorite being Fallout New Vegas which I own the Ultimate Edition for PC and PS3.
but compared to Skyrim, or even Oblivion, it crashes SOOOOO much, even on the PS3 Version, and with no Community mods installed.
Its as if the game engine is just soo fragile.
I had some concerns about Skyrim but after playing it and modding the hell out of it, i only receive Crash to desktops when i massively spawned dragons and unnatural occurrences.
so i hope if they decide to make another Fallout game, they fix the bugs and toughen up the game world like they did for Skyrim
@DeroxKING its funny you say this because
1) New Vegas was made by black isle not bethesda softworks, bethesda (the producers) produced it not made it. In other words the people who made skyrim never touched new vegas.
2) Fall out 3 was on the gamebyro engine (oblivion was too) the new creation engine is what the current set of bethesda softworks (the developer) games are using so expect it to be alot like skyrim.
3) you are surprised that you ran out of memory and crashed when spawning massive amounts of anything? thats your own fault.

I could care less about Boston but I can't wait for Fallout 4! Doesn't matter where it is!
we understand the fixation with the US but maybe they should expand a little bit... I can imagine how boring a Fallout in Boston would be!
@sundfeld What? How can you say that! Boston is the home of WONDERFUL things like Boston iced tea and Boston baked beans. I'm sure you'll see the light when you're playing Fallout 4 and you get to eat and drink irradiated version of both in the cafeteria at MIT while seeing the latest crackpot inventions of those 3 guys in Squid Girl who are always making crazy stuff that goes haywire while shouting M I T!

i was thinking the institure and the commonwealth wouldve been in canada...
and id like to know waht the rest of the world looks like to see if its just as barren and wastelandy as the US, like europe, asia, africa and australia
I liked New Vegas more than Fallout 3; it felt more like the first 2 games. I would not mind the Boston area if they did it right.

There is one more commonwealth, Peurto Rico. That could be very interesting, would satisfy tastes for new yet different setting
1 Like I preferred New Vegas to 3 partly due to the setting (I liked the mix with old-West), but I hope they can bring the best of both games for this one.
im over 200+ into game i still need to finish the story but before that i need to finish alian dlc and two others i finished the japanese dlc already . i like to check erverything cuz i want the platinum trophy so far i have 4 plats . i am trophy hungry and if i play a game that takes forever for trophys i quit n start other games i have several game not even stated yet but new vegas is still waiting till i get through with fallout 3. i have to be in the mood for certain games aswell . the game doesnt make me feel like drinking angeloti83 , just trophy hunting.
1 Like BY THE WAY... Whenever i play fallout 3 or vegas, a need of drinking comes to my head, i always end up drinkin some wine or beer and blowing stuff away!!(in the game of course)!, I wonder...does this happen to any of you???
1 Like i just hope the next one is even bigger and longer, i put over 100 hours in fallout 3 and new vegas but it wasnt long enough.
Not if they wind up using redudant textures/settings, mass-produced townsfolk that repeat the same 4 lines across the entire game and have mostly repetitive fetch quests. I of course would love to have a longer Fallout game, but at the same time I'd rather they kept changing up the locaitons and kept the script/game solid if they could just produce them a little faster (minimum should be 50 hours for any game though, preferrably close to 100 prior to expansions).
1 Like I'd almost rather see the next Fallout in Japan though, come to think of it. Japan is aways making games that involve western influences, but western games never really seem to dig to deep into that culture outside of common reverences found in samurai and ninja movies. I would really like a dev to do the homework on day and give a detailed and emotional betrayal to what it means to be an average joe native in a setting heavily influenced by the culture as a whole, rather than tp media influences. Have the devs live and work in Japan for a year and get to know some japanese friends and study japanese history as told by the japanese, but it'd be a nice to have that unique perspective in a game.
@Rizer But Fallout is shows america and its destruction for all we know all those countries are perectly fine (other than china)
@Kinhsupermutant @Rizer Well, that's kind of the point. I would think that the destruction of china and usa would influence the other countries reguardless, even if the nuclear destruction didn't completely trigger everyone to fire on each other. I assume that was the Fallout setting history, but even if it isn't, other stuff was still going on in the world when the crisis hit. With the amount of nukes everyone had the events of Fallout probably threw everyone into some sort of crisis. If not a situation similar to usa or china, the some repercussion of it. A global grab for power, entire nations cut off from each other due to radioactive hotspots the sizes of whole countries, a world war 3, global economic depression, etc. Ether way I would want to see what that crisis was from another nation's perspective even if they aren't playing 50s american music while shooting mutants and fighting kooky robots.
If the game is set outside of the usa, I would like to see the 1950's influences of that culture intergrated into the apoctolyptic setting in a similar manner to the usa 50's influences to the other games. I'd also want to see the world from a native's perspective rather than from a usa visitor as many other games have done this.
How about fallout in OH say some place outside the US, would be great to see the rest of the world after a nuclear holocaust.
1 Like I really would like a Fallout game in Detroit though. All of those robots and tanks that could be made there, all those buildings to explore, CANADA, University of Michigan (Science and medicine!) DLC, Forests...
That's actually a pretty damn good idea. I mean most settings offer the same sort of "advantages", there's a river or something, some businesses/industrial, but to have it at a place that could be set as the "prime" location for an army creation that has lots of industrial infrastructure would be best for one of the upcoming games.

I say put it in boston and depending on choices made in fo3 that carries over into this one (the choices not the character as this would be at least 10 years after fallout 3) Although I hope they add the faction system of nv in there but also keep karma relevant, oh and make it possible to be a ghoul and you have different outcomes for different things (only if you reach like 950-999 rads and maintain that for a week in game or something)
