Dumbed down? So Fallout 1 & 2 was rated AO? I really think they're going for an M rating, so yeah you might not get to kill kids, but was that REALLY such an integral part of what made Fallout so great? Let's see what they're doing with the game before we start leaping to conclusions (I know, it's the internet and about three years too late for that)

Migen666: F3 is coming out for PS3 & xbox360. So, you can forget about drugs, sex & killing children. And YES Bethesda is doing F3 for the wider range of players (TES & FPS players mainly).

I'm a console gamer yeah I probably never played anything pc gamers have but heck I don't have 12 hundred to 6 thousand dollars to pay for a new pc and the one I have is a piece of trash worthy of a firely death. So far my biggest purchase was a 4 thousand dollar car and my xbox360. So if that tells you anything about me I'm poor and I'm not rich like all the other fanboys here are soo I don't care what anyone else says but I'm just glad fallout series is gonna continue and I myself might have a chance in obtainning a copy when it comes out. By the way Brotherhood of Steel came out for the ps2 demagothfd not xbox....

They'd better get some good writers. Not just for the plot either--the dialogue was one of the biggest elements that made Fallout what it was. Does anybody remember any catchy dialogue from Oblivion or Morrowind that your character said? How about something witty that was based on your high Intelligence stat? Or, if you were an idiot fighter that refused to take anything higher than a 2 in Intelligence? Oh wait, you didn't really have stats in either Morrowind or Oblivion...which is funny because stats are one of the major defining characteristics of rpg's that allow for custom characters with weaknesses that are more involved than just what skills a character has...on second thought--does anybody remember actually feeling like they were "roleplaying" in any of bethesda's games?

Can I just say ABOUT FLIPPING TIME?!?! Now Beth, your making a game that is held in the same sanctuary as Star Wars, and if you can pull it off, you'll be George Lucas. If not, you'll be Jar Jar. Play the games (except for that crap BOS for the xbox). learn that ANYTHING goes. If we want to marry and whore out our wife for extra caps, we should be able to (see fallout2). If the ESRB gives you an AO rating, then you did your job. We will walk tall and snub our noses at the Wii owners who cannot buy the game (not flame, just truth). And Beth, learn about SPECIAL. It was and still is ground-breaking, it MUST be in the game. It will NOT be a fallout game without it. I hope and pray you due diligance with this one. This is more important to myself and others than your daughter's virginity. You mess this up and I will pray that Blizzard takes you over, those guys know how to make a game.

The way Bethesda wants to make next game of Fallout is totally wrong.To the Beth devs...before you go to work for Fallout 3 GO HOME AND PLAY the whole serie of Fallout and see what makes the whole Fall games and Fallout title so unique .I don`t know how much new players gonna buy this game and like but you gonna lose all old players who own the original games and play them for sheer enjoinment.The whole point in F games is TURN BASED STRATEGY along with RPG ELEMENTS AND SKILL AQUISITION in a IZOMETRIC WORLD where is allowed all the THINKING AND SELECTION OF next movement.So if you strip all fofthat then is THIS IS NOT FALLOUT AND DON`T DESERVE THE NAME OF FALLOUT 3

Err... Not exactly great news for me, unfortunately. My main problem, as I see it, with Oblivion was the fact that it appeared to be optimised for console playing rather than a PC platform. If Bethesda were to make Fallout 3 more suitable for consoles than the PC, I'd be extremely angry - I don't want to buy a PS3 in order to play the "purest" form of the game. (Actually, I don't want to buy a PS3 at all, but I digress.) I'm not a "PC Purist", as it were - I own several consoles, including the Wii, GameCube and even a Sega MegaDrive (Genesis for the American market). However, I do subscribe to the theory that certain games work better on different platforms. FPS games, top-down RTS games, top-down RPGs - all optimised for the PC, in my opinion. "jRPG"s, racing games, platformers, action-adventures - the strongholds of the console market. I'm well aware that this game is probably going to be an FPS - not exactly the move I'd like, to be honest, but that's another argument - and therefore, it'll work on consoles. However, I'd still prefer it to be optimised for the PC's traditional "WSAD" setting, at least on the PC version itself. To force a PC gamer to play a game that's optimised for another type of gaming machine using the "WSAD" system isn't my idea of a fun time. To sum it all up: OK, it's coming out on the more powerful consoles. That's alright and I hope that they'll have a good time with it. However, I'm not going to buy another seventh-gen console just to play the "purest" form of the game, and I'll be pretty damned annoyed if the game were optimised for consoles and I had to play a slightly crippled form of it on my PC. (Just an aside before I go: My major annoyance with this news is moreso the announcement for the PS3 than for the X360. I haven't got a problem with it coming out for the X360 as long as the PC version doesn't suffer because of it.)

I will agree that Im past the point where I dont care as long as it comes our. Id rather have something to complain about than nothing at all.

I like games with plenty of freedom, but not just huge empty world. In the time when I played Fallout 2 this was just unbelivable what you could do there. When I heard that it will be released on consoles one thing stroke my mind: " Nice looking, complicated at first glance then boring and simple after few hours of what apeared to be arcade style gameplay. I just hope I'm wrong.

ah, i finally have an internet connection. Time to troll. Once, when I was a 14, I saw only the cover of Fallout in some Scholastic catalogue. I thought, "hmm, "looks like a cool game", even though I knew NOTHING about Fallout. Seven years later, I got a job and bought Fallout 2....and wow. It made me quit Halo 2. for a few months. The Fallout series definitely rocks, and I have a feeling this upcoming one, old-school or not, will too. Bethesda just CANNOT go PG-13 on Fallout3, and I hope they don't, because then it will just be a complete insult to 1 and 2. Also, whoever was responsible for the dialogue in 2 need to come back for this one. Well, time to disappear from the internet for another four months...

@Tremere1 A great game? Considering how the casual gamer loves it, maybe. But it doesn't deserve the Elder Scrolls name, it's so different from the previous titles it might as well be a completely different game. Oblivion was designed to appeal to a completely different audience than the previous game did, Bethesda screwed their Daggerfall fanbase and then their Morrowind fanbase and they will do it again to the Fallout crowed. Anyone who was into the series before Oblivion was announced knows this, taking apart classics and reconstructing them is a manner that appeals to the more profitable casual gamer is what Bethesda does best. Whatever made that game successful in the first place is discarded and forgotten for a short term revenue injection. A good deal of these people didn't even know what Fallout was according to Gamespots poll (46%) so I don't expect them to notice when a good classic gets screwed over. And for the record my computers hardware is just fine, I more than meet Oblivions recommended specs, but the way this game was managed makes more sense on a console than a PC. In the previous games cities were outdoors, you could jump right over a wall and land in them. But now they have been cut off from the rest of the world taking spells like levitation, slow fall and jump along with them to stop players getting over the entry zones. Bad memory and thread management can be blamed on developing Oblivion on a console whose specs were unknown for the first few years of development. Fallout may be coming out late next year, but I somewhat doubt the specifications of consoles will change by then. If Fallout is going to try to appeal through eye candy it will already be dated by PC standards, hell G80s already beat the best consoles and G90 will have its full range out by then. If Beth tries to appeal using visuals they will kill Fallout.

If they did make it isometric, then the same people complaining now would be whining about how they didn't do anything different from the last time. to be fair the problems with Oblivion were bad consept decissions they want to open the game up to a broader slightly less comitted fan base. They figured that if they focused the storylines they could give you some better gameplay without the tedium of bookreading, and trial and error, and they did a great job. i hated Morrowwind and previous iterations of the game it expected you to be knowledgeable about the game from word go, with enemies surrounding you at all sides that could kill you by thinking about it and Story Missions so latent with a backstory they havent even told you yet, and i havent even gotten to the buggy glitch ridden gameplay. Oblivion went to far in the oposite direction i agree making the game way to easy, but i loved Oblivion because it didnt expect anything from me i didnt have to jump hurdles before i got the "privledge" of playing your game. if they reboaden the spectrem just a little bit they have the makings of a 9.9 quality game. Oh and the mod community is dieing across all games regretfully so dont cry for them Argentina.

And the whole futuristic oblivion thing , i'm don't think thats such a bad idea . I played the first fallout , loved it . But i don't mind a change now and then.

I just played Morrowind and hated it: the graphs are perfect but what about the basics of FRP? FPS is a genre that I really like but when it comes to FRPs;well, they are a different story. Combining the two might create fans from the younger generation but for those who are at my age (those who played Fallout 1 and 2) the meaning of FRP is so different. I am not buying Fallout 3 if they turn in into Oblivion.

@AnnoyedDragon. Easy there. Calm down. I suppose that you have a low-end PC? Bethesda gave the people what they wanted. A great game, with everything great in it. A nice CS to mod. The CS Wiki. Two expansions. The only thing Bethesda are guilty about is that they don't give support for the modders nothing else. @VegetaMaelstrom Well, it is supposed to be something like that. :) As far as I know and have read, Bethesda will use the same engine to make the game. The one that they used with Oblivion, and past Elder Scrolls games. That means the game can be modded again.

Bethesda's reputation took a big hit, in my opinion, when they released the unfinished and completely disappointing Star Trek: Legacy, and then abandoned any support for it without fixing the glaring problems it had. Just look at the reviews for it here on this site if you don't want to take my word for it. Watching how they just decided to cash in on a franchise title, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried the same thing with this sequel. Wait for demos and reviews before buying it, or get burned by Bethesda like every Legacy buyer did.

@EXODYS Oblivion was a business success, but a good deal of the fan base loathed it. There is less of everything than in the previous game, the character is babied and hand led through the game, actions have little to no consequence, specialising is punished while multi classing rewarded, the auto levelling system eliminated challenge and the pride of achievement. The same bloated interface was slapped on all versions regardless of its suitability, the game was badly optimised on all systems, the textures are very low resolution thanks to console influence despite the PC version being able to handle better, city cells was badly managed resulting in significant lag and the removal of several abilities in the game *breath* seriously I can go on and on. The game had to be heavily modded before it was even deemed suitable and even then there are some things that just cannot be fixed. Don't confuse success in the market equating to a game being good; there are many who consider Oblivion the worst in the series so far, giving the fans who funded its development the middle finger and running off to a more profitable wider audience. If Fallout is going to appear on three different systems at once expect it to suffer from similar issues Oblivion did, Bethesda loves to cut corners by giving all systems the same treatment despite suitability.

Besides excellent graphics and being a first person RPG, I don't see how this makes Fallout 3 "Oblivion 2". The gameplay in Oblivion was very distinct, and very D&D-ish, but found it's strength in a world to play in, not the story. Fallout games have always had their strengths in the story, with the world being a big fat bonus. I don't see why a fallout story/setting with the scope of an Oblivion type game is a bad thing at all. Bottom line: arguing that similar graphical quality and a shared perspective = the same game is akin to arguing that Quake or Duke Nukem 3d is the same as something like Daikatana. It's what you DO with the tools that counts!

I wonder what new this game will bring. Intresting.

Since Oblivion was a success on multiple platforms, I am sure Fallout 3 will be too :-D

The trailer brought back memories, and that's always a good thing when they are Fallout memories :) I think Bethesda will do good for this franchise, just so long as they make it gory as all hell. Honestly, I don't see that happening though as Oblivion was very light on blood. Please please please include my favorite perk though, "Bloody Mess"!!!!!!

It was so fun being able to CHOOSE how i would go about completing a quest in the first 2 fallouts... I better be able to make meaningful decisions in #3... like being able to shoot off a man's hand because he tried to steal my nuka-cola

I really don't like the idea of calling console gamers the lowest common denominator because that is basing everyone who plays a console to be well frankly stupid. That is untrue....it's just stereotyping based on what you play your games are on. That being said - a LOT of console RPGs are NOT really role-playing games at least in the traditional sense. They are fun however. I'm mainly a PC gamer and I find there are a lot more games on the PC that I like over console games - Gothic 2 for instance, Fallout 1 and 2 - Eye of the Beholder etc. but some of my best experiences playing games have been ON a console *Final Fantasy, Gears of War, Metal Gear Solid.* My opinion on the console vs. pc - why is this even being fought over? Even CONSOLE users know that their hardware is derived from ours and that PC's really are more powerful - so lets not make this an argument over which is better in terms of sheer power because CONSOLES will lose - in terms of gameplay and market base - consoles win because the games ARE simplified *well most are - not all* and more people own consoles then they do updated PC hardware.

Well this means it is going to automatically look and run like ass, all cross platform developed games do... Doesn't matter how good your specs are when it is designed around 512mb ram and there are G80s out to justify cutting costs in optimisation. Why not? They did it with Oblivion. In cross platform development everyone loses, even the console users will be getting less than standard visuals because it didn't get the additional time to be optimised that a exclusive title would.

That trailer looked AND felt completely fallout, and the fact is that it is the only thing we have to go on so far. If you want an completely isometric RPG, then go replay the first two because it is 10 years later, and the idea that bethesda was going to go down that path in this day and age is and always was a PIPE-DREAM, so theres no point in being disappointed about it. I say we stop with the negativity about this title (since as it is, we have seen very little to be negative about) and really give Bethesda a chance to see what they can do with this license. Im not promising that the end result wont suck, but I really dont think they are stupid enough to be careless with this title

Combat is only important so much that it be handled elegantly. There need to be plenty of options that are easy to execute. The thing is... and make no mistake, that Bethesda intends to make Fallout a mainstream title and not the niche success it used to be. I love Fallout, but the winds of change are blowing. I can guarantee and promise all of you it won't simply be "Oblivion with guns", Bethesda is smarter than that. I'd personally prefer a more KOTOR system, where I can set auto-pauses if I want or run the game COMPLETELY real time. Best of both worlds as far as I am concerned.
