Ex-Mafia dev shows off next-gen RPG

Daniel Vavra and new shop Warhorse Studios offer glimpse of unannounced next-gen medieval RPG due in 2014/15.
There has been much talk of what kind of power the next generation of consoles could hold, with GameStop CEO Paul Raines predicting these machines will provide "unbelievable new capabilities" for rendering and speed, among other things. Now, former Mafia developer Daniel Vavra has given a glimpse into what these new machines may be capable of.
Vavra heads up the Czech Republic-based Warhorse Studios and recently provided a video demonstration of what the company's unannounced medieval role-playing game is capable of. The video is embedded below and the game is due in either 2014 or 2015.
Vavra clarified on Twitter that the demo was running on an "old notebook" with a Nvidia 555M graphics card.
According to Eurogamer (via Eurogamer Czech), the environments in the demo were built on a modified version of CryEngine 3, with the rest of the scenery only a small example of what the technology can achieve.

OH ya well i took a shit and it wa brown and chunky. It didnt look anything like this. Barf fuckers BARF!
Shadows could be sharper, textures are flat, some textures (dirt track) are plain horrible, at distance some textures have obvious tessellation. Also i'd like to see an fps counter showing what that was running at, drops when basic npcs are roaming around, small battle and large battle drops.
In saying all of that, i still think it looks nice, but what really matters in the gameplay.
Based on it's ignoble portfolio, I doubt this new game would be worth playing...Who ever returns to the T-rated land of the living after passing, eagerly in most cases, beneath the shadow of evil into the M-rated realms of the living dead?

The tech demo looks good, if you'd rather sit on your high horse and talk bulls**t though then do it.
I myself appreciate advances in gaming technology, it's certainly nice to see higher definition graphics than what is currently standard.

ya well i've notice that most pc gamers are onboxious nerds anyways. the reason i play console is because of the fact that i dont have to send thousands of dollars every year updating my fucking graphics card so that 1) i can actaully play games and 2) so that i can boast on gaming websites about technology that i didnt even make.
thus xbox is great for someone who likes playing the almost all exact same video games as pc, but who spends less money on the hobby, and doesnt care about hardware as longs as its good.
but dont get me ALL wrong. for those people who genuinely enjoy building pc's and gaming. for those whose hobby is computers, perhaps your a technician or an engineer, perhap youve been tinkering with computers for 30 years and you just love gaming too, then please, my comments do not apply.
The graphics look great, but the time required to develop this game is going to increase by a lot. If it bigger than Skyrim, then we won't see it anytime soon, unless 100 or more developers are assigned to the project.
While pretty graphics are nice to look at, even the CryEngine 1 from Crysis 1 could render scenes in that quality, so that's no big deal. (and yes, CryEngine 2 and 3 may look even prettier, but that's a certainty)
What good are the best graphics if the game itself sucks ?
There's lots of other topics to cover like bad animation quality, non innovative player control, bad voice acting, stupid AI, bad gameplay mechanics, bad sound design and a lot more than just looks.
Show gameplay videos, demonstrate gameplay mechanics and explain what the game is about, what the players level of freedom is, if you support modding and things like that.
Also "next-gen" Consoles being capable to render scenes in more detail ?
Wow, that had to be said for sure, I think nobody expected newer hardware to perform better than 7 year old hardware.
I worry more about the new restrictions these "next-gen" Consoles bring with them like "social integrated features" being used as an excuse for "you have to be online to play" DRM and all that nonsense.
2 Like Go look up the Nvidia tech demo, "A New Dawn". Then come back and tell me this looks good. Also, said tech demo is downloadable. If you've got a beefy computer try it out. It's amazing.

Doesn't look any better than my PC at "MEDIUM Settings", not even max -_-.
Yet the hardware to run this is expensive nonetheless. Expensive hardware without the visuals to compliment the price.

You misunderstood me on so many levels.

By saying that I meant GPU's are becoming more expensive, But without the huge leap difference in visuals as it used to have in the mid 2000's.
This video is your prime example of what "Next Gen" is, but looks mediocre.
If you were to record a PS2 to PS3 game even while using a crappy camera, the visual difference would still be black and white.
This video shows nothing but gray.
3 Like Not trying to start a fight :), but I always have to wonder, if PC had been the main gaming platform for all these years, how crazy would game graphics be today. There are some PC exclusives, but I bet they'd be even better than they are.

beautiful environment, wonder how the frames will hold once there are hundreds of npc's running around.
i didn't notice any sort of tessellation, and weather is always nice to see as well!

@Suikogaiden It has very different tech than Skyrim. In short this engine can look far better than skyrim's engine. When skyrim is overly maxed out, this engine can go far beyond and support a much larger number of polygons onscreen. If you want to see more of what this engine can do, look up Star Citizen on youtube.
Incredible just incredible, hope this game turns out well. Have to admit though watching this video i couldn't help but think how it would be ideal for the next elder scrolls game lol
This reminds me a lot of the old days when the first footage from Ultima Underworld came out through (paper) game newspapers and such...
Impressive, but you cannot really tell what it will do until you see a world in action.
Plus it has that same "realistic but void of spirit" feeling in my view.
"due in 2014/15": There are 12 months in a year, so are you saying...
