With MW3, Infinity Ward announced that they will fix bugs and glitches faster! The weaponry and perks in Call of Duty: MW3 will also be more balanced and the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have a working party chat system. Infinity Ward has also revealed that it has revamped the entire killstreak reward system!
Unconfirmed reports say Infinity Ward is letting another Activision studio handle Call of Duty in order to focus on all-new IP; new Bay Area shop floated as top suspect.
Source: British game-info site VG247.
What we heard: In July 2008, Infinity Ward announced that its top developers had signed a long-term contract with Activision. Besides involving presumably large monetary sums, the deal allowed the Santa Monica studio to branch out from the Call of Duty series it created in 2002 to work on a "unique new IP."
Now, with Call of Duty franchise sales topping $3 billion, unconfirmed reports indicate Infinity Ward may be focusing on its mystery project. Citing "US Insiders," the UK site says that Activision has farmed out development of the sequel to the megahit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which minted $550 million in five days last November.
If Infinity Ward is indeed moving on to its Next Big Thing, who might take over such an important franchise as Modern Warfare? Citing more unnamed sources, VG247 has two suspects: an unnamed Canadian studio, and Sledgehammer Games, Activision's newly founded San Francisco Bay Area studio.
Sledgehammer seems the more likely suspect, given that it has publicly said it is working on a "new game based on one of Activision's existing franchises." It is also currently hiring lead online multiplayer designers who must have at least "five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC." Then there's the shop's sterling pedigree: its two founders, Glenn Schofield and Michael Condrey, were the main minds behind Electronic Arts' acclaimed Dead Space series before Activision poached them last July.
The official story: Activision reps had not returned requests for comment as of press time.
Bogus or not bogus?: It's certainly in the realm of possibility, since Call of Duty development has been farmed out before. Since 2006, former Spider-Man developer Treyarch has made World War II-themed entries in the series while Infinity Ward crafted the first two Modern Warfares. Also, after eight years of Call of Duty, the latter studio's talented development team is likely ready to try something completely different.
hopefully it'll be better than black ops.. really liked the campaign, and ofcourse spend a lot of time in zombies, but once you've played those two so much that you're tired of them, the multiplayer is just OK. Very limited new content, ideas, and innovation in my opinion.. they should perhaps take the idea of more fun game modes from halo, and add many more types of game modes than what's been in the past half dozen games. Plus the graphics aren't as pretty as they were in modern warfare 2; a step back in visuals on that part. Not downing it; ive still played it a lot, just suggesting. Hopefully MW3 will be full of innovating features and ideas!
cod 4 was the last good call of duty game. WaW and MW2 both suck plz bring some thing like cod 4 back
You know what mclebron23 im british and Im not a noob, in fact, i can own your ass in MW2 so shut up caus your a noob and an idiot and your not british so why dont you shut up and challenge me at MW2 you prick
MW2 irritated me with the cheating(Treyarch would've been all over that),halo douchebags, and like aaronfhff123 said. I'm hoping that CoD 7 will be really bloody and manly.
MW2 was too short and the lack of carnage made combat so unsatisfying. I cant wait for cod 7, i hva e a feelin treyarch will make it as bloody as W@W.
Amen w1w2wwe, its all the cheaters and haters that spout crap that have totally put me off Modern Warfere 2.
I love cod games i just hate all the cheating that goes on that needs to stop takes all the fun out of the game
@ryogapower...can u read??? obviously not cuz i never said cod 5 weapons are over powered numnuts. Also u must be 10 years old just for the fact u say "i kissed a girl"...get some pie then talk. dont be mad at me cuz u suck at cod. i barley play it and im sponsered lol...one last thing i already have a scholarship to rutgers (division 1) for baseball so i think i would get a bit more pie then you (if u know what that is...) you probly never played a sport in ur life lol. pce =)
network is not good in the Middle East I'm in Saudi Arabia Suffer from a lack of communication in the server I hope on the part of the game to provide good network we Please note that we are in the Middle East, more buyers of the game This affects the developer of the game If the company wants to satisfy customers actually find a solution I hope the problem of the honest heart that improved communication in the game Speeds available in the Middle East does not Taataada 20 m on opposite is located in Amrica or Aruraba Please Oza this into account and I sincerely hope that you solve this problem
I would like to see IW complete their franchise run with MW3 and then they can move on to something else. I haven't heard of Sledgehammer myself but i take it IW hasn't heard the old saying "If it's not broken don't fix it".
@mclebron23... this is far from my last message. i can dance all day son. ok, so being from the uk makes me a noob (theres that word again)? so we can add xenophobia to your list of traits? wow youre clearly the sh*zz and one super cool awesome guy! XD now youre saying the weapons in cod5 were overpowered too?!?!? compared to the slick assault rifles in mw1/2? dumb*ss, you had to earn your scope for bolt action rifles ffs. FYI using the word noob makes you 1 sad MF. in fact, how sad have you gotta be to be 'sponsored' to play cod4? what a joke. who sponsored you? your mommy? as she brought you waffles and syrup? you know what i did the other day? i kissed a girl. zing.
@ ryogapower...this is my last comment because you are officially the dumbest kid on this website. You obviously never played MLG COD rules just from what u wrote. just for the fact that you said COD 5s weapons are "challenging" is a joke....k/d ratio doesnt mean anything... BUT being sponsored in cod 4 when i used to play means i probly know how to play a little better than u. camping with a sniper is the opposite of how to play. if you ever played top teams in MW2 u wouldnt get a kill...play MLG rules then talk kid. also u called me "mate" so ur probly from the uk or australia so that would explain why ur a noob =) pce.
Nah way man. I want a cold war call of duty. Based on the Korean or Vietnam war. That would be fuggen insane!
@mclebron23 people seem to think youre the MORON there mate. ha ha. if double shotguns are so all powerful how come i kill them all the time with a pump action spas shotgun? or twin magnums? if you have the kill ratio you say you have, whats the problem anyway? the fact i snipe now n then makes me a '''noob''' too does it? youre talking absolute b*ll*cks mate. i play differently all the time. i dont just stick to one strategy like some bland fools (with 3.1 ratios, i mean you dont get that by varying it up do you?) just because you have a high ratio doesnt mean you can tell anyone the best way to play. i play differently with different weapons all the time cos thats the point, to have fun and to challenge yourself, thats why i liked the odd clunky weapons from cod5 (type99 any1?)- using them was challenging. I for one am glad they put akimbo in the game, and crazy over the top arcadey stuff, it HAS always been arcadey and is a natural progression. at least theres no juggernaught, or martyrdom by default. do you not see that akimbo and killstreaks and PERKS are there DELIBERATELY TO CAUSE imbalance??? to give you the advantage in certain situations? thats the WHOLE POINT OF THEM!!! and it has been since cod4! shock horror! :O if youre complaining about them then maybe you should go and play operation flashpoint instead. or join the army.
im expecting a sequel. the ending of mw2's story felt kinda bit unfinished..as if something was left undone...
There is a rumor going around that the new game infinity ward is working on is a Call of Duty MMO. Check out my blog for the story http://www.gamespot.com/users/shadow9669/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25781248&tag=all-about;blog1
It makes sense for them to move on. Infinity Ward have the honour of creating one of the biggest franchises of all time, and one that has near dominance in online multiplayer gaming. Seems like they are ready to pass on the baton and try something new. Not only does it give IF a break from wargames, a new team means new ideas, whilst hopefully still keeping the Call of Duty feel. If all goes well this could be a win win for everyone!!
I hope this time around that the game is better than the last, and it has longer game play and a purpose.
I have a feeling that The COD is going become a BF2142 soon... Seems cool for a Mw2 gameplay in the distant future but, it will kill COD.
personally i think COD franchise should just be laid to rest for a long time lets focus on fresh ideas now , i think people are getting sick of it like how many times can you play the same maps just shooting people with no strategy very overrated game imo
@Darkhalo That doesn't even make sense, I never said I haven't played it, in fact I have. Of course MW2 will sell more, CoD4 was an incredible game, so, in theory the sequel should be better, yes? So more people have bought the sequel. And you are overexaggerating, billions of people don't play this game, hell, the population of the Earth is 6 billion, and a large percent of that are unable to get an Xbox/PS3, and just as many have no inclination to play video games. I'm allowed an opinion, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was fact, I say more people like CoD4 than MW2, from a small sample of 132 people, only 14 said they prefer MW2. Sure this is not definitive, but since I obviously cannot get everybodys opinion, this does for me. And if you honestly don't think I can play the game, well, fool be you. I may have misunderstood your post, but lack of grammar does that. "even tho it sold more then halo 3 and cod 4 you just cant play the game its better then cod4 and waw" I mean honestly, I can't understand that.
that would be an exciting fresh start for the series and with visceral games the sky is the limit .. just look at Dead Space!
I wish they would stick to Dead Space and make sure that franchise stays top tier. Me personally I don't care what they do for the Modern Warfare series. After the boatload of exploits and glitches that absolutely destroyed any fun in multiplayer were allowed to just sit there (while the game simultaneously got rave reviews about the online play) I am not buying any further games in the series under any circumstances. I'd rather spend my money on games that deserve my cash.
It's too late to eliminate akimbo... or is it? I just want all the glitching to stop. The javelin took way too long to fix and now I'm getting into games where everyone is insanely fast and "ice skating" They NEED to bring the party chat back into the whole game because I HATE TALKING TO 10 YEAR OLD KIDS SAYING THAT PEOPLE HAVE NO SKILL WHEN THEY DIE!!!
Call of Duty was always arcade like. Always. Even from the first game. Modern Warfare's repetition finally struck a chord with people I guess. Hopefully, IW won't remain the one trick pony they are now and their next game will be great.
I think the guys that did dead space taking over MW3 is a bit odd, how many games have they made that were FPS? and for the MP for MW2 there are many MANY problems, people hack the leaderboards, akimbo rangers and model 1887s are ridiculously cheap, theres too many little nooks and crannies where people can go prone and camp the hell out of you, its so bad ive gotten nuked because people were camping the building in derail, i prefer 1vs1 over team death match because theres never a unequal matchup with teams. People tend to leave or disconnect at the last second just before the game starts.
@lister82 All fo those are really good points but ur forgetting the fact that the multiplayer is plain and repitative, the same thing happens every match, nothing changes it up like in cod4, you either hang back or rush forward, either kill a person doing the same thing or get killed doing the same thing and just plain and boring maps, the only map I truely value is terminal because of the unique design of interior and exterior like vacant but with easy ways to clear out the defenders (ie windows) besides for the choke points... anyway, the multiplayer just didnt feel like cod4... The other thing that I need to add is that the story, while amazing in gameplay, was totally raped by the story, nothing makes sense. I really like actual stories in fps such as Halo and BFBC but the story need to atleast be good if your going to put it in there.... just my opinions on it...
Hmmmmm.... Never heard of Sledgehammer Games. I wish that IW would do MW3, but, I guess they're too busy.
