Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Persona 4: Arena new additions; eighth game will be determined by community.
The line-up for this year's Evolution fighting game tournament (or Evo 2K13) has been announced.
According to a recent livestream on Wakeup SRK's Twitch channel featuring EVO lead organizer Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar, the games that will be on the tournament are Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Mortal Kombat (2011 version), Street Fighter X Tekken, The King of Fighters XIII, and Persona 4: Arena.
TTT 2 and Persona 4: Arena are the new titles, while the rest are returning from last year's tournament. Unlike last year's tournament, Street Fighter X Tekken will be a one-on-one tournament instead of teams of two.
In addition, an eighth game will be added and will be decided by the community via donation votes. The games on the player's choice voting poll are Capcom vs. SNK 2, Dead or Alive 5, Divekick, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R, Injustice, Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, MLP: Fighting is Magic, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Skullgirls, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The qualifier tournaments in North America, dubbed the Road to Evo 2013 tournaments, will be SoCal Regionals, NorCal Regionals, UFGT, and CEO. The seeding points system has also been changed for this year's tournament. According to Shoryuken.com, the top 16 players for each of the qualifier tournaments will get a seed point each. At the end of the season, the organizers at Evo 2k13 will manually assign seeds to all seeded players. The international Road to Evo events will be announced soon.
Evo 2k13 will be held at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on July 12 to 14.
SFxT is still the main tournament even though the fighting game community didn't like it and it wasn't good on EVO.
Really hyped up for the EVO 2013. I hope Skullgirls would get in, or PS All-Star, Melee or Brawl, or whatever fighting game in the list that's fun and I'm really curious.
Off-topic, woah this newly re-design comment is weird....
Melee, no questions asked.
It'll be like a last hurrah for what is in my opinion one of the greatest fighting games ever made.
Skullgirls for sure. I just fell in love with the game. If not, the let it be MLP: Fighting is Magic.
playstation all star or skullgirls should win. i hope. if more people played all star they would like it. but skullgirl is beast. and why is sfxt on the list? and which version are they going to play. 2013, or 2nd patched?
I'm loving this lineup. All are choices I agree with, and there's something for everyone
Glad to see SFxT getting a second chance. Most hyped for Tag 2 and KoF 13
Hope to see either DoA5, Skullgirls, or Darkstalkers 3.
I'd surprised SFxTK is being picked this year after the amount of negative feedback from when it was on EVO or whatever it was.
Still, good list.
@Simply_Chococat I really liked Skullgirls. I'ts the game that thought me how to really play fighting games. Normally I'd just learn specials and that would be it. Plus, it's a very tight, well done fighting system. I love it.
conflicted that skullgirls might not get in but also want MLP:FiM to get in as well....frankly dont see why PASBR should even go in, it barely works as a fighting game to me.
I vote for MLP:Fighting is Magic to be the 8th fighting game in the tournament! Not just as a Brony, but as a fighting game fanatic, it looks like a really good game! And its a new game that'd be interesting to see, if not I hope to still see it in there as a side tourney or simply a casual... My side votes would be Skullgirls or PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale
@Falru I don't think it is... I read somewhere that they're not taking any donations as they could get shut down by Hasbro since they're making money on an unlicensed project, but it could be :P
@179107199999 player skill lvl is to great.. if u have under 5 years of knowledge in that game, you dont qualify as Pro
That outfit the panda is wearing in the link pic has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have seen in a long, long time. I gotta ask myself, why does something like this exist?
I was disappointed that there weren't any real big 'surprises', you could've seen this lineup a mile away. The community choice could be interesting though, and it supports a good cause too! I really hope Melee or PlayStation All Stars wins the Community Choice, they'd be fun to see.
This is also another reason why Atlus are idiots for not releasing Persona 4 Arena in PAL regions, they could have had people really hyped to see the game on show, but instead you've got half the world not having played it.
@g1rldraco7 this should go to Child's Play charity, or at least that's the charity I'd have chosen, oh well, either way the money is going to somewhere to hopefully help people :P
