North American ratings board sheds new light on portable sci-fi action platformer game; WayForward Technologies indicated as developer.
Sega currently has a pair of Aliens titles in development. Gearbox Software is handling Aliens: Colonial Marines and Creative Assembly is at work on an unannounced series entry. However, it appears Sega has also commissioned a third Aliens game, this one for the DS.
According to a recent classification by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, a T-for-Teen-rated side-scrolling franchise game called Aliens: Infestation is on the way for Nintendo's portable.
Though not yet officially announced by Sega, a rating by the Australian government from May indicates that WayForward Tech (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, A Boy and His Blob) is handling development of the game.
The ratings description states that Infestation will have players controlling a space marine squad as they run and jump through side-scrolling levels. Additionally, the listing indicates players will "use rifles, pistols, flamethrowers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers and aliens (i.e., 'xenomorphs')."
A Sega representative told GameSpot, "We won't comment on this one."
I know this will sound bad...but I really don't enjoy most sidescrollers any more (unless they are with either classic titles such as super mario bros.,megaman.or sonic,or exceptional design like Fancy Pants or other shorter titles). There just isn't as much to enjoy with a sidescroller (especially a shooter),I don't feel nearly as excited to explore said worlds or defeat enemies.I believe Sega would have been doing better to possibly have either instead of or with the ds version have a fuller polygonal 3ds version (I imagine an fps could be GREAT on 3ds).But hopefully this game will be the exception and prove me wrong.
@DiscGuru101 Yeah man i always seem to have dreams about the Alien films and mythology, same with Terminator, I guess it all stems from watching these films since I was a kid, ITS PART OF ME...
@PandaTrueno86 yeah this games starting to smell like another game that took over 10 years to come out that gearbox finished off...i really hope it doesnt
I'm waiting on Gearbox's Alien game. They dropped the ball on Duke, but that's understandable. They had a helluvalot to try to fix and rush it out the door, most of it wasn't even their game. Other than that, Gearbox has been putting out consistently good games since Half-Life: Opposing Force.
"WayForward Tech (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, A Boy and His Blob) is handling development of the game." Should have said "Wayforward Tech (Contra 4)." That game is so awesome that Konami finally gave it the elusive "4" that none of the other Contras since 1993 was given.
a 2D sidescroller from WayForward? I'm buying it on day one, don't care what it's about, it's gonna be GOOD.
Bring on Aliens: Colonial Marines...while it has nothing to do with the PS2 game, I've been waiting since 2001 for it.
