Everytime I hear Epic and Id mention a new IP, I always think to myself "All they do is shooters. I wouldn't exactly call that new." This will probably be the same ol' same from them. But I'll hold off criticizing them until tonight's VGAs. If it ends up being Samaritan...I'll piss myself.
Design director Cliff Bleszinski promises "big announcement" from flagship studio at Spike TV awards show later this week.
The 2011 Video Game Awards are shaping up to be as much about game announcements as honoring the year's crowning achievements. Following on from teasers for a new BioWare project, a new Alan Wake project, and the as-yet-unattached Last of Us, Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski has confirmed that his studio will have a "big announcement" to share at this year's show.
"2011 marks the 20th anniversary for Epic as a studio, and while we've been busy supporting Gears of War and Infinity Blade, we have something new in store for you," Bleszinski said in a Spike TV teaser video. "It's an entirely fresh and new experience we've been crafting here in our North Carolina studio."
Epic's Cary, North Carolina, studio is responsible for the company's biggest franchises, including Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. The developer is coming off Gears of War 3, which closed out the franchise's first story arc on a high note in September. Epic's Chair Entertainment studio released Infinity Blade II for iOS devices last week.
The 2011 VGA ceremony takes place on December 10 and will be broadcast live on Spike TV and MTV2, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.
I'll have to make sure I tape the show. I missed it the last 2 years. I always here bad things about this award show. Hopefully when I actually watch it, it'll be good.
I am betting this new game will be based on the "samaritan" demo they showed us months ago that everyone got excited over. and pc will be the lead platform so epic can put all those amazing new features to use. if i recall correctly, gears of war began as just a tech demo.
I really enjoy watching Spike TV's Video Game Awards. This just adds more intrigue to the mix. Looks like I'll be sitting in front of the tv this saturday to find out.
@IamTheBesteva Yep.. That is the kind of reply I get when I'm right. Thank you. You are the one who who made a comment @ me. I am more than happy to give back. Any ways I did read that this could be a RPG of some kind. But who knows. I do like Epic and have have friend that work for them. So, makes me a bigger fan of Epic.
@paranormalnut your just trailing off the subject with nonsense now, i'll be the big boy and leave, goodday sir
@kkxtrouble Even if Chair isn't making a sequel, someone else could be. Not every sequel is made by the original team (e.g. the upcoming Halo 4). If this is the case, though, I would hope they keep it faithful to the original.
I know it's not "fresh" or "new," but I would absolutely love to see the Unreal Tournament series make a return to form. I somewhat enjoyed UT3, but it lacked the pure fun and satisfying experiences I had with UT2K4 back in my college dorm days. It would be truly amazing to see a new "UT2K_" game that brings back the frantic nature of the pre-UT3 games--especially in an industry full of generic "OMGEXPLOSIONSSUPERCOOLMILITARYSTUFF" shooters. But I really look forward to any new IP that comes from Epic. Cliff Bleszinski is without-a-doubt one of the greats :)
Jazz Jackrabbit reboot. Its practically a new IP. They give Jazz an even more edgy look than he had before, and a take no prisoners attitude. Its gonna be sick. I mean look at this guy http://andheresthej.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/198764-jazz_jackrabbit_large.jpg, he was ready to rumble a long time ago
ugh, most of the VGA show makes me hide my head in shame, I'll watch it again this year for announcements and exclusive trailers, but if Dana White makes his fighters shadow box to LL Cool J again im gonna rip my frickin eyes out.
LMAO So mad at y'all for turning a story about a major reveal into a f@#!ing fanboy battle royale LMAO Anyway, always interested in seeing what Cliffy B and the boys will bring next. They make some wild and fun games. Yes, I hope it will be crossplatform as I'm a PS3 only owner, but regardless I'm sure it'll be good stuff and I can't wait to see it.
@IamTheBesteva Kind of hard to be a fanboy when you own all 3 and play them.. Once more, the wii and PS3 came out days apart and a year after 360. The wii out sold them. better bring something better to the table. Away from that. I don't think it is gonna be a 360 exclusive. Bleszinski talked about this with PS mag or something that had somrthing to do with PS any ways.
I'm guessing fresh and new means not a sequel to something we've seen. it's going to be a 360 exclusive
@gamerboy100 I dont think so, they said they were not going to do a sequel, even if it was one of the most succesful games in XBLA. I would love a sequel , though i think i would like a new IP better. Here is why its not a sequel to SC, its the main studio that is making this new game, Chair is the one resposible for Shadow complex and they were working on Infinity Blade 2.
kingsi7e keep dreaming Epic games will never make a pc exclusive game not after Unreal tournament 2007 pc market is very weak compared to x360 and ps3 that why Epic games dont waste time and money with pc games
If its 'entirely fresh and new' I doubt its going to be Unreal-related. The more important question is whether its goint to be yet another series or just a stand-alone title.
God forgive the dumb fanboys, XBOX and PS3 ones... Watch Epic announcing Unreal 3 as a PC exclusive lol (I know it is unlikely, though).
I really hope it's going to be a full game of what the Samaritan demo was. That looked like it could be great.
As much as I would absolutely LOVE it, I'm sure hoping that it is Unreal 3 is being unrealistic (no pun intended)
I hope it won't be a shooter. Epic does to many those even though they're all great games. Maybe they could do an Action-Adventure, and RPG or a Stealth game.
Epic is a 20 year studio. Never even heard about them before this gen, congrats. Microsoft thanks for expanding video game developers. Hundreds of developers became bankrupt like Midway and you have supported video game innovation.
My guess is it could be a sequel to Shadow Complex. Here's a couple articles posted in the past that make me think it's a new Shadow Complex: http://www.gamespot.com/news/more-shadow-complex-teased-6303558?tag=result%3Btitle%3B1 http://www.gamespot.com/news/epic-looking-for-studio-to-make-shadow-complex-2-6335434?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0
@pycho22solid I hope so as well. I don't hate Kinect, as I got one, but I'm in big favor of the standard controls. Keep the Kinect for party games, kids games, or other games that pair both. I wonder if it's going to be a Xbox exclusive or multiplat?
Please...don't be a motion game, and make it a new IP that will wow people as much as the first Gears did. Fingers crossed
