Epic Games' Tim Sweeney heading to DICE Hall of Fame

Founder and CEO of Epic Games honored for creation of "catalysts in the evolution of gaming."

Since releasing his first game in 1990, Tim Sweeney's impact on the games industry has been immeasurable. Next year, the founder of Epic Games will be honored for his efforts at the annual DICE Summit.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences today announced that Sweeney will become the 16th inductee into its Hall of Fame, honored for his hand in creating the company behind numerous hit games and franchises and one of the industry's most ubiquitous game engines: the Unreal Engine.

"Tim's vision has changed the face of gaming with the advent of the Unreal Engine and the commitment of Epic, as a studio, to bring both consumer and industry-facing technology to new heights," president of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, Martin Rae, said.

"We're honored to add Tim Sweeney to our Hall of Fame. His unrelenting and innovative work on behalf of developers and gamers has created the imaginative games that help to drive the success of our industry."

The DICE Summit's 15th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards will take place on February 9 and will once again be hosted by Jay Mohr. Sweeney's award will be presented by Epic Games vice president Mark Rein.

Credit where credit is due. I'm glad he's being inducted. I was a little worried people had forgotten the guy much in favour of a certain Cliffy B :roll:

Big mouth for he's "epic game rage..how IT WILL REVOLUTIONIZE THE GENRE" He's talks from he's mouth And look at the game...epic fail...full of bugs result..crappy game Carnack is done for,they are WAY better devs than this big mouth guy He was ok the last gen but now he sucks hard

Unreal Engine 3 dominated this generation...and the 4th looks awesome; The guy deserves it, epic is epic.

Well deserved for Epic. Been playing their games since Unreal and One Must Fall. Don't forget Jazz Jackrabbit! Too bad they've been focusing on "social" and "mobile" gaming lately. I do believe we were supposed to be due for another Unreal title in 2012 :/ If you follow the 4 year release schedule.

That's awesome! Unreal Engine 3 is amazing, and Unreal Tournament runs so well, yet looks great! What a winner!
