EA's Harry Potter delay zaps $120M

So... err... why did they push the game back? It's not like they can spoil the movie.

EA must be pissed having to release this game in the Summer 2009. Since they won't get to cash in on the holiday shopping season. Parents that buy their kids these type of games won't do so as much in the summer so it won't sell as well.

Watch out EA people wearing Halloween capes will soon be after you. Personally its a 130m well lost, maybe it will show publishers to kill the movie tie-in game. (probably not, i can dream)

you think this is bad, read the recent reviews of the movie just put online at aint it cool news -- it sounds like they completely RUINED the sixth movie, with the reviewers sounding almost dumbfounded at the film they just saw... they changed the whole ending, and for much worse, not to mention completely short shrifting the half-blood prince and his story.

The more time it takes, the better it's going to be. These guys have chance to make history on many Top 10 best movie-films lists.

Maybe EA can use this time productively to actually make a decent game. Come on you lazy yankees, release the best damned HP game you can now that you have the time to do so.

just like tripwolf said, the movie is finished and may be shown this november. moving it to next summer is only about the film makers greed. i'm down about boycotting the film and i hope karma befalls WB and a bootleg copy comes out before theatre release. this kinda seem like square-enix screwing all ps fans and release 360-exclusive games ... result? piece of crap infinite undiscovery.

I hear allot of the movie fans are VERY upset and are planning to retaliate. Floating around the websites of boycotting the release by buying a ticket to another movie and sneaking into the HP showing(s). Also heard that everyone will only see the pic once. Hell, he's doing full frontal nudity from what I hear anyways...funny if you ask me.

While $120 million may seem like alot, (well to me it would be), you have to remember that the sum will be divided by the 360,PS3,Wii,DS,PSP, PS2, PC and Mac versions. Now imagine if the game was actually good...

movie tie-in fact: the game will sell an amount of copies completely regardless of how good it is. the people who buy these will not go on metacritic, will not check gamerankings, will not read reviews, will not check it out on forums, they will buy it because of the film. there was an article here on gamespot about hulk games, and how the one with worse reviews had sold more simply because of the movie and marketing.

darkslider, the movie is finished and has been for a long time, WB didn't want to release it because of tax reasons cause dark knight made so much money. So to save themselves a few pennies WB pushed the movie to summer 09

Harry potter wont do any thing in the summer..To many good other movies out ..Id rather have gone in november to go see the movie..Any how we all know what happens in the 7th book..Unless you been living under a rock an havent read the book..

I actually signed a petition at petitionspot.com for this movie to be moved back to it's November release date. There is no reason for this movie to be delayed except for greed, as the production is complete, heck the trailer is awesome, and to watch that multiple times before next July is going to make it worse.

Good news Harry Potter fans, EA now has time to fix all the bugs they were gonna leave in the game. Wish they would do that for their football games.

hmm if you think EA is putting out good games BESIDES sports ones. then you are sadly mistaken look at: -battlefield -army of two -mercenaries all suck BAD hahahha they are allllll for kids probably built the same as harry potter games if you ask me

it's not great for fans I tell u, I consider myself a fan and HP games suck, the first ones were nice because they were aimed for a more younger audience (so as the movies and books) but the newer ones can't still be about doing errands and all of them are really unpolished, the last one was one of the worst games I ever played it even rivals mysims

EA is playing coy here. They only expect to sell 650,000 copies of Warhammer Online at around launch time. I am absolutely confident that number will be closer to 1,000,000. Furthermore, they will retain a majority of their subscribers due to the obvious quality, care, and entertainment value found in the game. Word of mouth will spread, and cause their numbers to easily climb to the second-most-profitable MMO of all-time. In other words, the expected $120M hole will almost certainly be filled by WAR. As far as what people have against EA -- it goes back to the days of 1999 to ~2005 when they commonly rushed buggy and broken games to the market. Their reputation likely shattered with the debacle surrounding Ultima IX, and never fully recovered since.

I don't know about the rest of the consoles but if they add MotionPlus to the Wii version I think it'll more than make up the $120 million hole. And of course they'll need to polish it up one each console but it should sell a lot if they actually work on it more.

6 months of additional development never hurt a game.
