D3 mobilizing Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon; teaser site already up for new installment in xenophobic third-person action series.
It's been three years since the North American Xbox 360 launch of Earth Defense Force 2017. Given the complete lack of news on the franchise since then, one could be excused for thinking the human resistance had fallen prey to the invading robo-insectoid armada that it featured. However, there's now reason for hope, as a placeholder site has surfaced for a new project in the franchise apparently titled Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon.
The site contains no information on platforms or release window and no content of any kind beyond a logo for the game and an Entertainment Software Rating Board "Rating Pending" emblem. The site is registered to D3Publisher of America. A representative with the company confirmed the game's development, saying, "Regarding Earth Defense Force, the rumor is true about a new game… However, we are not revealing any additional information until our formal announcement in the near future."
The Earth Defense Force series began life as Chikyuu Boueigun, part of D3Publisher's Japanese line of Simple 2000 budget PlayStation 2 games. While Earth Defense Force 2017 was the first installment in the series to see release in North America, the previous installments had made their way to Europe under the Global Defence Force and Monster Attack names.

yes!!! i cant wait! EDF2017 was an incredible co op game! the amount of freedom you had to form the much needed combat strategies using all the different kinds of weaponry was staggering! dont get me wrong, it was mindless fun too! but finding ways to defeat the later levels on inferno was some of the most rewarding videogame experiences i and my friends have ever had! roll on EDFIA! im booking the week off work!
Lol I like how people are saying how the game looks. News flash, the video here is for Earth defense force 17 not Insect Armageddon. Just so you know. :P
One of the best value-for-money games this generation, on any platform. Can't wait for another installement!
Earth Defense Force 2017 was by far the best budget game ever. I hope the sequel is multi plat as I only own a PS3 now and would buy it for sure.
So stoked! EDF is the epitome of guilty pleasure....it was soooo terrible...and yet somehow sooooo much fun, especially in co-op. HUGE alien, robotic or insectoid enemies pouring in ludicrous waves while you completely fill the screen with explosions and acid and fire and ass and death...nonstop action, crazy destruction, narrow escapes....this is the game that satisfies that "I'm bored and want to kill some time with pure mindless awesome," hunger. I'm serious, go grab a friend, pop this in and start yelling, "What the @#!? is happening on my screen?!"
I could care less, I didn't play the last game because it looked bad. The trailers and reviews didn't help it's case either. I didn't know there was more of these out there until now lol
OMG... This game was soooooooooooooo funnnn in Co-op... Sure the graphics look like crap... But it's all in the game play. Can't wait to play the new one if it comes out in the US.
EDF!!!!!!! EDF!!!!!!! EDF!!!!!!! Can't wait for this hope it has online co op so i can squish bugs with my friends. Gonna be the greatest game of all time...of all time
SWEET!!! Ihave had hours of senseless fun with this game. My only complaint, please make reload button. *joins chant* E.D.F. E.D.F E.D.F.
I am surprised that there is a sequel. I didn't think the last game sold that much. Though, it was a ton of fun.
I like EDF. I have Monster Attack (EDF 1) and Global Defense Force (EDF2). When I'm payed, I'll be sure to see to playing the 360 EDF game now.
YES!!! My friend and I loved playing this game. I loved all of the difficulties, getting all of the new and crazy cool weaponry, and the B-movie vibe. Some polish on the next one would be great, though, especially in terms of framerate. I can't wait!!! Truly a great split-screen co-op game.
This headline actually made me smile. I don't think any video game headline has ever made me smile before... The first one was awesomely fun, but there's room for improvement. I hope they keep the feeling of the first game though. I really hope they add online co-op (or at least more splitscreen) and make the vehicles not useless. Improving the AI would be appreciated to. *starts chanting* E.D.F. E.D.F.
the first game was really fun. It still sells for a good amount of money. I remember the game only had FOUR yes 4 achievements and I couldn't get any of them. I wish I kept the game. or maybe I rented it.
Sweet. This is one of the few games that I never traded in. The occasional split screen death match restricted to using only the slow-flying homing air tortoise was just too much dumb fun.
the achievements sucked in the fist game... beat it on easy, beat it on normal, beat it on hard, beat it on very hard. But the game waqs so fun with unlimited rockets
HELLS YEAH! More giant ant shooting love. I was just wondering if they were going to make another 360 game too.
**** YES! Best news all year for me. The first game was hilarious, brain-numbing and fun. Probably in my top 5 games this gen. The dialogue was brilliant. "You like death, THEN DIE!" :D
From my Japanese sources, word is it will be out February 2011. Note this is only rumored so don't give your hopes up. Source: http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/881803.html
edf 2017 was one of my fave 360 games for mindless fun the game could be played in short bursts (15 mins) and was highly challenging on harder diff levels. there were tons of unlockables and levels what this sequal needs is online play. that is a must!
