Following release schedule omission, MTV Games confirms publisher will indeed release punk-pop royalty's rhythm game.
EA caused a good bit of confusion on Monday when it laid out its release schedule for the remainder of its current fiscal year. By way of omission, the publisher seemed to confirm that it would not be releasing a new NCAA Basketball game this year or a PC edition of Dead Space 2. EA also appeared to have dropped MTV Games and Harmonix's Rock Band franchise from its distribution list, leaving off the previously announced Green Day edition of the rhythm series.
Earlier today, EA clarified its position (kind of) on Dead Space 2 for the PC, saying that it has yet to determine whether the edition will be released. Now, MTV Games has provided word on Rock Band: Green Day, confirming that EA will indeed serve as distributor for the title through its EA Partners label.
"The previously announced Green Day: Rock Band will be published by MTV Games and distributed by EA," an MTV Games representative told GameSpot. "Stay tuned for news of MTV Games' other titles soon." MTV did not comment on the Green Day game's release window, though it had previously been announced to arrive in 2010.
Green Day: Rock Band is in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. In a vein similar to last year's The Beatles: Rock Band, the game will be devoted to Green Day's music, featuring some of the band's favorite venues, as well as other onstage imagery. The game's song list will be fully exportable, allowing its songs to be played in Rock Band and Rock Band 2.
green day was good fr dookie now they suck first they wasted cds now their wasting game discs lol i might play it to see the passionate look in Billie Joe's eyes when him and bono hold hands to feed the hungry children
Green day are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be the most epic rythym game EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait. i will buy it as soon as it comes out. EA..... I salute you
Green day are pretty cack now, There is only one song i recognise called "Know your enemy" and it ain't green days one. Don't think this game will sell that well. I would rather play the new Actvision game "banjo Hero"
I'll buy this one in disc only. I haven't gotten burned out on music games because I haven't felt morally obligated to buy everyone that comes out. I only own Guitar Hero 3. Green Day is one of the few rock groups that I'm familar with.
@hman1111 not really. everyone knows rap is not hip hop. two different things. and rap is garbage. i was just using a quote from hennig
@mrzero1982pt2 Well that was pretty much the point I was trying to drive home, that rap is for prepubescent brats who like to hate on rock because it's actual music. Kind of a fail on your part there....
@hman1111 that was the dumbest thing anyone has ever said. like curt hennig said in wcw: RAP IS CRAP
@kingkronik it would take a lot of money for a queen rock band or guitar hero. look at singstar: queen. it took years. sony was trying to make that game since the ps2. it took almost 4 years! the main reason that wont work is because queen is signed to hollywood records in the us... WHICH IS OWNED BY THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY! yes folks, queen is part of the house that jonas built in the united states. tons of other labels depending on the region have queen if you want to go global. so that is a lot of work to do, you are better off with another band or wait a few more years
@kingkronik why would they shell out the extra money for bands that barely anyone listens to anymore or even knows? i personally think the band games are dumb all together because they limit what type of genre is in the game and pretty much the only reason you buy it is if you like the band. GH 5 did horrible cause the rhythm genre is dieing. not cause there are "bad" bands in it. cause i believe it had 2 of the bands you want for whole band games in it.
and people wonder why everybody hates the rythem genre these days... the beatles rock band sold well because the beatles are a great band, while guitar hero 5 did horrably because of bands like GREEN DAY. EA and harmonix should have invested the extra dollars into getting a better licence like Queen, Nirvana, or even The Who. At least these bands have some artistic integrity.
Never ever listened to Green Day, so there for my opinion does not count. I just don't like these band games between RB and GH, only one I liked was Metallica. I won't me a Megadeth GH :)
People, stop hating on Green Day. I do prefer their old music, as they are becoming a bit more scene, but they're still pretty good. If you don't like them that's great, go listen to rap like the poseurs you are.
dude, i am not saying weezer=FAIL never that. i am saying mtv helped bring green day back after nearly a decade of not being heard from, introduced them to a world of emo kids and now they are gods? thats monkeycrap. the age of green day listeners now were peeing in diapers when dookie came out. i bet if you put that cd in front of em they would say its CRAP. american idiot and that other cd are garbage. a musical... a MUSICAL based on that cd?!?! do not make me laugh. these men should go somewhere fast because i wouldnt buy, let alone steal this game if green day came and told me it rocked. that would just solidify its suckiness even more.
I can't see this doing well at all in this already saturated, declining market. Maybe if it's not a full price game and is priced at $30 or $40 it could do ok. Even then for me I still doubt this would warrant a buy.
@mrzero1982pt2 What kind of rediculous assumptions are those? Weezer are awesome and stand beside Green Day in my books (They actually mention Green Day in a song off Pinkerton) so don't give me that crap. I'll just ignore your fall out Boy and Panic at the disco comment. I've followed Green Day since the Slapped over happy hours and Kerplunk days and own all 9 Albums. They are absolutely unreal Live and they deserve all they've accomplished.
@Killer_Peanut Yea whats your point? Penises have made the adult film industry more money than i'll ever have, that doesn't mean I'll fun playing with them... Having lots of money doesn't make you cool, ya scrub
i hope the albums of 2004 (american idiot) and 2009 (21st century breakdown) are included originally in the disc not DLCs especially 21 guns
I've like the band-based games, but I still don't know why they chose a band like Green Day. They aren't THAT popular, and they only appeal to a small crowd. The Beatles appeals to everyone young and old, so all I can see is Harmonix wasting money. They only have a handful of songs, and the songs aren't challenging for guitar.
Just make games for genres of music. Don't devote a whole game to a damn band. Love green day but they have sold out with their music and now that they have done this. It makes me sick. Wheres the old punk that I missed?
seriously, does this even warrant a news item? everyone already knows that this series will have a new band version every month. no one cares...
What the hell. Next thing they'll have is Peter, Paul & Maria or The Carpenters Rock Band. lol!! This needs to end. I did enjoy the Beatles Rock back and would mind seeing a Jackson 5 Rock Bank as well. At least these are big popular groups. With Michael's death, it would probably sell pretty well. Havng Metallica, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Country Songs, etc.. was just a bad, bad idea. They could have just used Rock Band or Guitar Hero (or whatever) and released a full 20-25 songs in a DLC pack for $5 - $10. We just want the music now. We don't need anymore bundles or full games.
Each to his own and whatnot but this is something I'd be ashamed to own. Not saying people shouldn't like Green Day but their music is generic watered down trash and I for one would prefer for Harmonix to try something a little different to what has already been done as they did with The Beatles Rock Band which at least showed some innovation.
@shanzor My problem, and I think a lot of people's opinion about this game has nothing to do with personal opinion about Green Day. Its simply the fact that Harmonix is abandoning their previous business model of downloadable content rather than annualized and band-centric games. The Beatles: Rock Band seemed justified to me as I was under the impression that they were taking advantage of the fact that they had one the elusive Beatles licensing rights. Green Day is a different issue as they are already licensed to death, making this game nothing unique. If cash-ins like this continue, Harmonix and MTV Games are going to go the way of Activision.
@shanzor i wont buy but ill still inform people how horribal the band is.. kind of my civil duty. kinda like preaching the word of Anti-Twilight, for if vampires were to sparkle we would have made them gay to begin with.. LONG LIVE DRACULA!! HE IS A TRUE VAMPIRE!!
I forgot that everyone on this site fits the oldies loving, metal obsessed, mainstream hating stereotype. If you don't like Green Day then don't buy it.
Edit: Megadeth's "Rust in Peace" was just released for RB...I WILL be playing this. This is the way to do things right...DLC.
Holy crap!! Green Day is still around?! I thought they all died in a bus crash........hmmm, who knew?
I had a free ticket so I went to a Green Day show to see what the fuss was all about a few years back and to their credit they were pretty fun and over all, entertaining. Midway through their set though they asked for audience participation. They chose three people from the front few rows and gave over their guitar, bass and drums. Billy Joe tasked them with a simple repetitive beat and basic chord as to which he began to sing one of their hits over...This is Green Day's writing process. Now imagine how much fun this will translate to playing on plastic instruments in the living room...That's right, I am not buying anymore of these until RB/GH - "Something actually fun to play" comes out.
