Community manager says work on Battlefield 4 will not compromise development of Battlefield 3 DLC; access to BF4 beta possible outside of preordering MoH: Warfighter.
Yesterday, Electronic Arts officially took the lid off Battlefield 4, confirming the game was in development, and revealing a beta for the shooter would arrive during fall 2013 for those who preorder Medal of Honor Warfighter. Today, EA community manager Ian Tornay has responded to questions about the announcement on Reddit, saying EA will continue to support Battlefield 3 while it also works on Battlefield 4.
"There are several teams at DICE," he said. "Starting work on Battlefield 4 does not mean that we will be abandoning Battlefield 3 or working any less hard to bring you the best expansions we can. DICE and EA are dedicated to continuing our support for Battlefield 3. Just as we've continued to support and maintain Bad Company 2, we intend to continue providing the best Battlefield 3 experience we can well into the future and past the release of End Game and Battlefield 4."
Additionally, Tornay confirmed that reserving Medal of Honor Warfighter will not be the only way to score entry to the Battlefield 4 beta. He said there will be "other ways" to get into the trial period, but presently, preordering that game is the only way to guarantee entry.
Tornay also responded to criticisms about the timing of the Battlefield 4 announcement, which came just nine months after Battlefield 3 launched last October.
"I think it's worth noting that DICE has released a Battlefield game every two years or sooner and Mirror's Edge at least every two years," he said. "I truly believe that we're in one of the best positions to be creating our next titles--Frostbite 2 has matured, we've been gathering fan feedback like crazy, Battlefield 3 continues to expand with features which we can learn from, and we've got more data about how people play than ever."
Lastly, Tornay listed off several potential Battlefield 4 features that he said EA recognizes there is a "serious desire for." These include a better Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solution, a battle recorder, spectator mode, and "more robust" eSports support.

hahaha, more BF haters! chill out peoples, just a game, and yes I do love playing BF3, it's a GOOD game. Can't knock COD either. Honestly tho, BF4 beta in fall of 2013? the game could come out in 2014, which is great because newer hardware will be out. It's not released every year either like a lot of other franchises, and there are a lot that do it, not just EA, Activision, Sony, M$ and whoever.... plus ur still buying it if it's good so who cares. I just hope my GTX 680 is still good enough to murder BF4 by then.....
@sribz lol your gtx 680 is recommended to run "a new dawn" from geforce labs, and trust me anything lower than a gtx 670 cannot max out specs for the "new dawn " . and if the gtx 480 can handle bf3 like a pro, then your gtx 680 can handle bf4, because it's going to use the same engine, just slightly updated
This comment by Tornay should be grounds for him getting fired. "... A mirror's edge game at least every two years (?!!)." Lies and deceit. mirror's edge came out in fall of freaking 2008. Grade school math Watson - that was 4 long years ago and we're still waiting for the 1ST, i repeat 1ST sequel to come out!
DICE its nice to see your for-filling the role of EA's lap dog so well. I know I am probably like one of the only people that was not at all impressed with BF3. I am guessing BF4 is going to be almost the same thing as 3 was. I miss old BF2 and I miss how a DICE game use to mean quality.
EA: "Look we're gonna make this other game called BF 4 that will be exactly the same as BF 3 so we won't spend that much into developing it but will still charge you $60 because we know you will still waste your money on it."
@rebelde01@MrMuscle69r EA is only worse because of online passes, but other than that, service support, and audiences for EA's software is much better, plus i'd rather pay 10 bucks for an online pass to play with people who are actually old enough to buy a rated "M" game, instead of 12/13 year olds
Of course they'd say that. They'll be saying that right up until the day they DO abandon it, and make no mistake, abandon it they will, sooner or later. (Probably sooner)
I almost fell into the 'EA is following Activision's milking trend!' before I checked the facts. however I'm still concerned about how the new game is called BF4 when there isn't much revolutionary improvement to be made, as compared to the graphic overhaul between BF2 to BF3. if what BF3 currently lacks are better VoIP features, spectator mode and such, why not add them on to BF3 as patches? why do they have to make an entirely new game with basically same gameplay & same graphic engine (DICE has made no mention on Frostbite 2.5/3.0 yet)? on a side note, probably I'm not buying BF3 Premium just yet...
I completely agree. Not to mention that this game requires additional polish, especially the engine. Since DICE are priding themselves on this engine, I'd argue they should file down the engine before working on a new title. No point in living in a mansion, if the foundation is riddled with termites.
@iluvOP yup, let's hope this happens, instead of having to wait for a 'hollow' BF4 just to see features that should have been there in the first place.
@zeifel Thats what I think...this game and its engine have a long way to go before something new comes (and by new I mean virtual reality),the game looks great, plays great, and besides adding the features you mentioned I dont see any need for a brand new game...no one plays BF 3 for the campaign anyway...they should focus on adding new content to the already excisting game...not re-making it like COD!
Funny how the people talking shit how the BF3 servers will be down as soon as BF4 comes out are the ones who bought the BF3 DLC. No one told you to buy the DLC and you feel bad for it. If you think the servers will be down when BF4 comes out, how comes the 1942/BF2 servers are still running?
Damn people, stop moaning. Ever since Battlefield 1942 there has been a new Battlefield game released every 1-2 years, so why is everybody so surprised and disappointed:
2002 - 1942
2004 - Vietnam
2005 - BF2
2006 - 2142
2008 - Bad Company
2009 - 1943
2010 - Bad Co. 2
2011 - BF3
You can still play most, if not all of these games still online, they still keep up the servers, so they aren't going to take down BF3 servers just as BF4 comes out, don't be such idiots. You do know you don't have to buy the game right?
@StumBOX Remember of the weapons shorcuts? everyone bitched when Dice released them on BF3 months ago even if they do it for every game after some months after release, the reason is just to hate lol
@son-of-the-wolf DICE has came out with a new Battlefield game every 1-2 years since the first game, they aren't changing anything with that. 2002 - 1942, 2004 - Vietnam, 2005 - BF2, 2006 - 2142, 2008 - Bad Company, 2009 - 1943, 2010 - Bad Co. 2, 2011 - BF3. Know your facts.
@shrapnel-grant You stopped playing because you didnt realise that Bad company games are MEANT to be different than just plain BF tittles? Man, this is the first time in a long time when I saw stupidity bite someone in the ass badly.
@iluvOP HaHa and what you just said is a wast of space, they have hardcore mode in BC2 right and they also have it in BF3 so how the hell are they different they both feature the online game mode hardcore, they took it from BC2 and changed it in BF3
i liked the game very much just i don't see why they would change.
Nov 30, 1995: "Without meaning to, The 11th Hour has taught the gaming industry a few valuable lessons: First, the sequel isn't always as successful as the original. Second, pretty graphics and cool video sequences do not ensure a good overall gaming experience. Third, and perhaps most importantly, game creators should stay true to their claims, or they'll disappoint their audience in the end."
RIP Dice. Its a shame that DICE has been raped by EA and now will be forced to follow the same path as what Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer is doing to Call of Duty. EA should be ashamed of what it has been doing and I only hope that they go bankrupt in the coming years so we don't have to put up with their greed and complete elimination of good companies and turning quality classic games into rehashed garbage. Shame on you EA.
so they purposely didnt include VOIP, battlecorder, or an esports interest in BF3 post launch just so people feel compelled into buying BF4 ... how pathetic.
I will be honest battlefield 3 was really good. I loved it enough to buy the premium. I know in due time they will cut the server and will be forced to buy the new battlefield.....
@BlackWaltz_No_3 Agreed, its better to improve the current product with updates, patches and perhaps a few DLCs rather than milking the franchise and create a half arsed buggy product to rake in more money.
@houshidar@BlackWaltz_No_3 Yeah every one is asking for that, but they don't give a shit. Bad Company 2 will always be better than BF3..why? Because it took them 1 year to improve Bad Company 2 where as BF3 is left to be shat on.
Well BF3 servers are basically abandoned on consoles, as we seem to basically be left with only player rented servers that usually involved 1000 ticket matches that go on for far to long and the server owner getting mad and kicking people off when someone kills him or starts doing better.
Still, it will be nice if BF4 offers the diverse environments like BFBC2 and the same level of destruction. Though, it hardly justifies paying for all the BF3 DLC since we'll have to shortly get BF4 and its DLC.
Yea... they keep BF3 alive while they're developing BF4. But once BF4 hits, expect them to turn the lights off on BF3 to force players to upgrade. Watch, they'll keep the BF3 servers on for 3 months after BF4 launches and act like they were doing you a favor. For $60, plus ridiculously priced dlc maps, gamers should have more than 2 years of access to a game's online features.
@treava I wasn't meaning it literally, exactly 2 years. My point was EA loves to screw you over while making it look like they've got your best interest in mind. And 1942 was a re-release dlc game. I'm talking consoles only btw.
