I want to see some DLC on this one. Instead of trophies I want my prizes in Tiger certified women! Man this game would sell millions of copies if they did that. As for his "scandal". Tiger intentionally groomed his public image selling himself as a stand up wholesome do good guy. He is the one who set himself up for this. Yes wealthy elite sleep around. But it's different and altogether humorous when the fakes fall! Nothing to do with his golf game though. But as a parent I do have to admit, I won't be getting this for my kids. But maybe for me. Bring on the trophies!
[UPDATE] EA Sports president Peter Moore offers strong support for scandal-plagued athlete, reveals browser-based PGA Tour game will likely arrive within next two weeks.
[UPDATE] With it being Tuesday in his native UK, EA Sports president Peter Moore has posted his statement on his blog. As predicted, it reveals that Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online will launch this month, having already been played by 75,000 people in a closed beta over the past eight months. EA reps said the company is aiming to launch the title within the next two weeks, when it will also announce its pricing model.
Perhaps more newsworthy is the tone of Moore's post, which offers strong support for the scandal-plagued Woods and draws a distinct line between his personal and professional life.
"Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf," said Moore. "We didn't form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm's length endorser. Far from it. We chose to partner with Tiger in 1997 because we saw him as the world's best, most talented and exciting golfer. We struck that partnership with the assumption that he would remain near or at the top of his sport for years to come."
Moore continued, "By his own admission, [Woods has] made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what's happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history."
(The original story is below.)
The end of 2009 saw Tiger Woods lose a string of high-profile endorsement deals from AT&T, Gillette, and consulting firm Accenture following his admission of marital infidelity. Now, it seems 2010 will begin with an announcement about the future of the near-billionaire golfer's 11-year-old golf game franchise, Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
Electronic Arts has confirmed to GameSpot that EA Sports president Peter Moore's blog will "have a statement regarding Tiger" sometime on Tuesday, January 5. EA reps declined to comment on what the outspoken executive might say about his company's relationship with the disgraced athlete or when Moore would publish his statement.
However, USA Today believes that the announcement will be EA's confirmation that it is moving ahead with Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. Currently in closed beta, the recently previewed browser-based game will charge players a subscription fee in exchange for the regular addition of courses and features. USA Today reports that the game, currently available in demo form, will launch later this month, although EA reps had not confirmed that as of press time.
Ever since Woods first admitted to committing personal "transgressions" last November, EA has stood by its longtime cover athlete. (He later admitted to infidelity outright.) "Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged," company reps said at the time.
EA Sports has not clarified whether or not the next entry in its console PGA Tour series will feature Woods on the cover or in the title. Its last Tiger Woods game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, was released in June for the Wii, PSP, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. According to NPD Group figures, the game had sold over 1 million units on all platforms in the US as of November 30, with nearly half of those being the MotionPlus-enhanced Wii version.
@play_thegame hey dude, you are missing the point. its a tiger woods game, so i would expect all the sex scandle and all. without it, it wouldn't be a tiger woods game.... i pretty pissed off if i were to played as tiger without the women....
does it including chicks...? actually i was expecting a 4x4 driving, dating, beat em' up and part time golfing game. come on EA, i'll pre order ten if it does.
Well from the whole Tiger Woods saga we learnt one thing and that is "S## is food for the champions".
@johnryandaplin "does crashing your car and cheating on your wife part of the gameplay or story?' Does johnryandaplin know how to properly put sentences together? No
I scrolled down to the comments expecting terrible jokes and idiotic statements. The internet always delivers.
I find it laughable that in 2010, we still are surprised when wealthy, powerful people sleep around. So the dude can wack a ball real far, why should I, or anyone, care about anything else? It's not by business. I also find it interesting that people are so quick to judge and call the guy a jerk. People make mistakes. It's not our job to judge or forgive him when it has abosolutly nothing to do with me. I for one am glad EA is sticking by him. I will continue to buy (and be increadibly terrible at) Tiger Woods PGA Tour games. To the whiners, grow up. People cheat and lie, especially rich people.
Tiger Woods is an arrogant POS, and that some people defend him is laughable. He is the reason his family has been torn apart. NO ONE BUT HIM. If you choose to be a public figure, you have to accept all that comes with it. Right or wrong, that's the way our society works in this day and age. Maybe if he would have been more accessible, and didn't act like such an ass on the golf course, the media might have been a tad more sympathetic. Probably not though. His athletic ability overshadowed the fact that there was always something suspect about who he was as a person, and now that he's under the microscope, the dirty truth keep's getting dirtier. His legacy is forever tarnished, despite how many more golf tournaments he may win in the future. Epic jerk.
good on tiger. personal and public life shouldnt be used against each other. i always hate it when politicions/ famous people get caught up in sex scandals. whoever actually breaks these stories obviously doesnt get some and enjoys tearing apart families. if they wanted to they could have just told mrs woods without pasting it across the countries media. >_>
@stziggy Dont give them too much of a pat, i saw a news item where they said they will still release it becuase they were making it long before all that happened and it COST too much, But left it wide open to presumptions on weather he will get anyother game! Im sure the figuers of "men that have many mistrisess, then get beaten by wifey" wont go up?
I don't give EA a pat on the back that often, but they deserve one! I'm happy to see they're sticking with Tiger. As for the folks that say "this sends a bad message," what kind of message did you send when you elected Bill Clinton president.....twice?!? That moral argument is out the window as I'm concerned.
the only thing that gets me is the double standard, for their old nascar franchise they didnt put sponsors in the game that were either cigarette companies or beer companies because "It sends a negative message to children" but on the other hand they back a man who not only cheated on his wife but did so multiple times with multiple women... what sorta message does that send to the youth then? Dont get me wrong I have nothing against a tiger game but to be soo two faced about what they allow and what they dont is really hypocritical on EA's part.
I dont really care if hes in the game or not, though id prefer that he was in the game, he is one of the best and i dont care that he cheated on his wife. As long as they make a good golf game, thats all i really care about
Ugh, people on the internet never shut up. The jokes have been old from day one, people. He's one hell of a golfer, what he does away from golf is strictly his own business. Is he the first man and the first athlete to cheat? No. The economy's in the tank, there's two wars going on in the middle east, and a climate change summit occurred in Switzerland, what does CNN talk about during the holidays? How Tiger Woods cheated on his wife. How ridiculous. He's a friggen human, same as you and me. I laugh at people who put celebrities before their own lives. I'm lucky I ditched cable this month.
I dont get most of you. His personal life has nothing to do with his golf career. If you are talking about his golf career then he is an amazing golf player. If you are talking about his personal life then, I know, he is a cheating bastard with no shame. Make sure when talking about someone you don't mix good things and bad, thats not right. On topic: Not wasting my damn money...
Lol! This can go either way, either golf simulation or adult themed game. Either way, Tiger is gonna use his club and, ah well, holes are involved...
Yes!!! Tiger Woods is gonna teach me how to pick chicks! He's a pro at getting it in the hole.....^_^
So is Tiger going to seek advice from Carl from San Andreas and learn about Hot Coffee? Wouldn't be surprised if that happened.
Well someone is thinking reasonably. I mean he's a golfer and this is a golfing game, that is it nothing more, nothing less. His personal life certainly aint gonna make the game bad. The only thing that should ever effect his career is if he stumbled onto the court drunk and start swing at everything but the ball. I'm a girl and I think all this stuff is getting out of hand, why would you not buy the game cause he cheated on his wife. You would end up not buying a lot of stuff if it meant not buying stuff from people who cheats on their significant other. The only time I care about infidelity is if it was MY boyfriend that cant keep it in his pants. It's not like the game is gonna make your guy cheat. If something like a golf game by a man that cheated cause my boyfriend to cheat, well I would be retarded cause that would mean I was going out with someone that was a true idiot.
The problem with Tiger Woods is that he portrayed himself as a family man and "tried to keep" his family out of the spot light and he wanted to highlight his private life as one of his positive images. Also the advertisements for half of his products were an image, an image of a clean cut role model, and not just on the golf course. That's his problem and why many of his endorsement contracts got the boot. The reason for EA standing behind Tiger in this case is admirable, he is the best golfer (They didn't make a contract with him for "Tiger Woods : Who is the least likely to cheat on their wife Tour 2010"), they want the best golfer associated with their game, end of story. Peter Moore said it best in regards to their relationship.
Some of your are so uppity on yourselves. Why do any of you care if he cheated on his wife, seriously. None of your business, worry about your own sins and judge not others. He's an athlete and nothing more to me, why should I care what he does outside of the course...
well personally I am not buying any more games that has Tiger Woods in the title. I used to like them but I can't look at his name on a game anymore. I know he has a right to his private life but I also have a right not to buy his stuff too. I thin kit is best for EA to drop him before it's too late.
i can hear the soccer moms protest starting over this game, "we must protect the children" this is going to be bad
