EA dropped from NASDAQ-100

FIFA publisher no longer one of the 100 largest non-financial companies on American stock exchange; competitor Activision's status unchanged.
FIFA and Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts has been removed from the NASDAQ-100, an index of the 100 largest domestic and international non-financial companies. NASDAQ's recent re-ranking of the index pushed EA off of the list, which will become effective December 24.
Netflix, Blackberry maker RIM, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters were also dropped. Major EA competitor Activision will remain a member of the NASDAQ-100, and is the only gaming publisher to make the list.
EA shares began the year trading as high as $21, before bottoming out at around $11 in August, and climbing back to about $15 as of this morning.

Now, if they drop from the face of the earth that will be the best news of 2012. They deserve all the animosity people have against them. Give and listen to your consumers and they will give back to you. Marketing 101. Logic.
1 Like All EA needs to do is...care. If they cared more about their quality, studios, and customers, they'd be alright. The more their greed interferes with their caring, the more they alienate the consumers and their employees. Their greed leads to ridiculous time constraints which then leads to horrible games with a lack of quality and innovation this, in turn, leads to a lack of sales.
@Skrilla_XS They need a large amount of new leadership, people more into long term IP's, and management that is less .... well... less dumb as hell i guess.
2 Like Note to EA: quit making sucky games with horrible endings, quit using crappy DRM schemes (I'm looking at you, Origin), and quit treating your workers like temp-slaves. Maybe you can have more of my money when that happens. MAYBE. You'd better make SimCity 5 single-player NOT REQUIRING A CONSTANT INTERNET CONNECTION (i.e., NO requirement to play in a persistent multiplayer world, like Diablo 3), or you won't get my money. Make what I want to play, or starve.

what a kick in the pants for EA. unfortunately this will mean they'll try even harder to make money and get back on the list.

1 Like EA makes it impossible to like them. I cant stand them, but do NOT want them to go under. They are too big and it would devastate the industry. Many good developers would be gone and image how bad Activision would get without its only true competition. The problem I have with EA is they truly do not care about the consumer, gaming is strictly business with them. There is NOTHING wrong with maximizing profits, but that cant be your mentality, b/c you start to take advantage of your customers. Look at Take Two and Valve, lots of money without having to put out inferior products. Take care of the consumer, and good things will happen for you.
2 Like Sucks to be them, I guess. Not surprising after Dragon Age 2 and Medal of Honor (their newest IPs) crashing and burning like they did.
2 Like @tightwad34 Most company's are non financial, a financial company is like a bank or building society, basically any company that doesn't provide financial services is a non financial company.
O.K. That's pretty much what I thought it meant. Thanks for the response. Although, I gotta ask what's a building society? Also, if you're not going to give any finance services then you shouldn't be getting any.
@trigun3x @tightwad34 Don't forget Europe. Lots of building societies across the major European countries.
@tightwad34 Wikipedia is probably your best option if you're still interested, pretty similar to a bank except it's customers generally fund the organisation, more UK and Australia based though.

I just want EA and Activision to die already, unfortunately as long as they have the rights to certain titles like Madden and CoD, I don't think it'll be happening anytime soon. :<
1 Like @Jebril I dont want them to die, I just would like them to adjust their practices. So many of there decisions scream "we dont care about fans." All companies want money, but to horde money from customers while taking MANY shortcuts and offering perpetually inferior products is unacceptable (Dragon Age 2, MOH).
@debryson @Jebril Personally, I have no problem with what EA and Activision are doing. They're clearly appeasing their audience's wants and needs. Which is why my main problem is with the mindless drones who put their blind faith in those companies' games just to 'follow the crowd'.
Many of my friends are die-hard PS3 owners who live and die by CoD. Whenever we 'debate' about the games, especially in comparison to BF3, I often find myself asking 'Why am I friends with these guys again?'. That's how much the fans get on my nerves.
In fact, the only problem I have with EA is the lack of a new Road Rash or Strike game. They bring those back, I'll be completely fine with them.

Skate, Burnout, NFS, Bulletstorm, the new Syndicate. They still make a lot of great games.
People are still butthurt over stuff from ten years ago. Times change, guys. Grow up. Activision are the company that are destroying the industry. Not EA.
@DrKill09 the main difference between activision and EA is that activision makes really good games (though uncreative and soulless) and EA makes overpriced, uncreative, brainless, soulless shitty ass unfinished games, they are the cancer that kills the game industry, i wouldn't be suprised that one day there would be a game market crash exactly like the 1982 atari crash...

the 10 years ago stuff was their good stuff, they went so downhill its not even funny, and they are dragging the indrustry down as they slide
i used to like seeing the ea logo on my games, now i will not buy anything associated with them

(Fifa 12 I believe) Introduced online passes.When Battlefield 3 came out players were suppose to get Battlfield 1942 and EA went back on their word.Ruined ME3 with Day one DLC Made Dragon Age2 a far departure from the original. I can't recall all they did but They're a cancer and this is what they deserve.What you don't see is a lot of fans got fed up with their BS. Espcially when it came to Madden being the same game over and over again.The "new" physics was a BS ploy to sell the game.I nor many other gamers will not support EA because like Capcom they love to figure ways how to fleece gamers.Sony uses online passes because EA started the trend.Oh yeah Origins can glitch,And EA wants people to buy their games new instead of used.Maybe if their games were good enough people wouldn't sell them.EA is trash and so far they're getting what's coming to them.Fans aren't hurt.They see the BS and won't stand for it anymore.That said Fans are mainly consumers.Screw over fans/consumers long enough then you have to expect a backlash
