505 Games announces Headstrong Games handling development of new game based on Tom Cruise-led Top Gun; going wheels up for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2012.
LOS ANGELES--Earlier today, Namco Bandai announced it was bringing the Ace Combat series to the third dimension, via Ace Combat 3D for Nintendo's 3DS. Now, 505 Games is taking flight with a game based on Paramount Pictures' iconic air combat film Top Gun.
Due out in the spring of 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC will be Top Gun: Hard Lock. Headstrong Games (Lord of the Rings: Aragorn' Quest for the Wii) is handling development of the game, under a licensing deal with Paramount Pictures.
As for the title, Hard Lock is a flight combat game that has players piloting F-14 Tomcat fighter jets and other licensed planes at mach speed. Additionally, the game sports a Hard Lock mode, which 505 described as one where " players perform air combat maneuvers that deliver an explosively satisfying visual payoff that brings them right into the action."

I don't know why they create movie tie-ins which are nothing short of just grabbing audience's attention to a normally sub-par game. The dollars that they spent getting a license for the movie could've added to countless development hours resulting in a far more polished game. I am in no way saying that this game would/is crap (as I haven't played it yet) but I have no hope with movie tie-ins. They plain ol' suck!
Considering the fact that Top Gun is notorious for scenes that border on, if not cross over into, the homoerotic, maybe Hard Lock wasn't the best choice for a subtitle.
The movie is one of my favorites but the game i think it will be like one of these percentages below... 70% total let down 20% reasonable 8% pretty good 2% excellent
It's been way too long since their was a quality combat flight sim on the PC. Let's hope this changes that.
haha love how people rip off ideas in the game industry like carters got pills now adays lol even games them selfs fps is the worst genre if you want origianlity because there are just to many rip offs of goldeneye , and doom and now with war games lol and without nintendo im sure this industry will see nothing more then graphical upd\ates and raising game prices and stuff like this will happen even more
Hey look, the new Ace Combat game isn't even out and already there's another game ripping off its new zoomed in lockon system. The amount of blatant copying and plagarism in the videogame industry disgusts me.
like how they had to make up a theme for the second part of the trailer because they didn't get the license for "highway to the danger zone!" hahahaha kinda sad
just hearing the opening notes of the topgun anthem sends chills up my spine everytime this had better be worthy of it or 505 needs to pack up go home and find something better to do
I'm now downloading the film lol I'd much rather just watch that than sit through a crappy game, and you know it will be...
lol this generation prolly never even heard of 'Top Gun' but I guess there's space for more flight simulators.
Well... so far there has not been a single Top Gun title worthy.... I am not so sure this will change that chain
