E3 2011: Top Gun: Hard Lock flying next year
505 Games announces Headstrong Games handling development of new game based on Tom Cruise-led <i>Top Gun</i>; going wheels up for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2012.
LOS ANGELES--Earlier today, Namco Bandai announced it was bringing the Ace Combat series to the third dimension, via Ace Combat 3D for Nintendo's 3DS. Now, 505 Games is taking flight with a game based on Paramount Pictures' iconic air combat film Top Gun.
Due out in the spring of 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC will be Top Gun: Hard Lock. Headstrong Games (Lord of the Rings: Aragorn' Quest for the Wii) is handling development of the game, under a licensing deal with Paramount Pictures.
As for the title, Hard Lock is a flight combat game that has players piloting F-14 Tomcat fighter jets and other licensed planes at mach speed. Additionally, the game sports a Hard Lock mode, which 505 described as one where " players perform air combat maneuvers that deliver an explosively satisfying visual payoff that brings them right into the action."
