Epic's slaughter-filled sequel coming November 7, Capcom's horror-survival game coming March 13, Lionhead's RPG done and due in October.
Buried in the avalanche of news coming out of today's Microsoft E3 press conference was word that three top-tier titles have been dated. First on the list was Gears of War 2, the sequel to Epic Games' wildly popular third-person sci-fi shooter. Although it was revealed as coming in November at the 2008 Game Developers Conference in March, the game now has a firm release date--November 7, 2008.
Microsoft's conference was also where Capcom revealed that Resident Evil 5 would have a "simultaneous worldwide release" on the 360 and PlayStation 3. Appropriately, the next installment in the horror-survival series, which has drawn fire for its racially charged depiction of African zombies, will arrive Friday, March 13, 2009. Besides the usual action, the game will feature an online co-operative mode, a first for the series.
Last but certainly not least, Lionhead Studios used its corporate parents' event to reveal the latest on its Xbox 360 exclusive Fable 2. While on stage showing off the role-playing game, studio founder Peter Molyneux flatly proclaimed that work on the game was "finished," and that it would ship in October. Previously the title, which is the first to have crossover play with Xbox Live Arcade games, had a mere "fall" release window.
Microsoft's press conference was by far the most interesting of the 3, then again exactly how I expected it to be.
Gears of War 2 is awesome! They had a playable demo of it this weekend at a concert. The visuals are slicker. The controls are way better, the cover system has been revamped! The challenge has been pushed up too. The "human shield" thing is a nice bonus too! I cannot wait!!!
yay! Gears of War 2 dated! the future is bright for MS, especially when you consider that now, they've also got FFXIII!!!
Great ! Games that are coming out this year. Another reason to own an xbox, even if it's your second console.
MSFT should really push all the titles before GoW2 comes out, maybe salvaging to be release closer to Christmas. Sometimes the biggest titles can't help but eclipse the others.
Oh oh oh this year's gonna get very sweet ending, let's see: GoW2, Fable 2, Last Remnant... MAN I LOVE HAVING A 360!!!!!!!!! Better now that FFXIII is also coming, yes!!!!
So they decided to release on Emergence Day again, well if it goes with real time I think it's been over a day since they killed all those Locust...
Friday the 13th, such a predictable date. Probably wouldn't have noticed it by myself until one week before launch though.
Okay, so they did Fable 2 and Gears 2. Two games we knew a good bit about. Nothing amazing on either front. Then they did a bit on RE5 which was actually pretty cool since it showed off co-op and it was the first live gameplay footage. But what about all the other games, first and third party, announced and unannounced that you could of talked about. Major phail if you ask me.
Gears of War 2 looks good, Resident Evil 5 looks good, Fable 2 looks good ... a good time to be a gamer
WOW just when I thought there were no good games coming out, i get a much needed reminder about all the awesome games being made
well its holiday season, so of course these games will come out at the time...........I never really played Gears, I actually owned the game, but this second one looks amazing.
if im fighting white zombies in africa, i will be racially offended! what colour are people if africa? green!?
Meh, I could care less about Gears of War 2 since its only appeal is multiplayer (honestly, what was the first one even about lol) RE5 looks amazingly sick and I will brave the 13th to get it. Since Fable 1 was a letdown for me, I'll wait to buy Fable 2 and see if it actually meets expectations this time, seriously...
What a line-up. I don't think there's ever been this many big titled games come out within such a small window of time as this: Fable 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Rock Band 2, Far Cry 2. I am very excited.
GOW 2 Release = Awesome Fable 2 finished = More awesome RE 5 on Friday the 13th = Creepy yet awesome.
