E3 06: MGS4 trailer stops show at Konami booth
As has become tradition, the latest glimpse of Kojima's next project packs them in; crowd spills over into neighboring N-Gage booth.
LOS ANGELES--Each year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo sees several archetypes of people turn up: those who are there to scam swag, those who are there to ogle booth babes, and those who are there to play actual games. There's also the traditional annual rush of Hideo Kojima worshippers over to Konami's booth to watch the latest Metal Gear Solid trailer.
This year, a crowd of attendees took a load off in front of the Konami booth's main screen to watch the new extended trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3. The trailer was previously only seen by attendees to the Konami press briefing and was much longer than the trailer shown at the Sony conference. (It is now viewable via the official Konami Web site.) It is a sight to behold and features a new, harder-edged Raiden decimating a squad of biomechanical Metal Gear cyborgs with a katana and some gravity-defying acrobatics.
Given its visually spectacular nature, the trailer drew quite a crowd. In less than two hours, late-comers standing to watch it had overrun to the aisles, effectively choking off a busy intersection at the front of the Los Angeles Convention Center's South Hall. Eventually the gawking mob stretched all the way in front of the neighboring N-Gage booth, where attendance was light.
While this isn't the extended trailer, it does feature much of the same eye-popping footage.
It wasn't all trailers, however. A prominent Dance Dance Revolution-themed stand let players try their feet at the new DDR console and arcade games there, or attendees could have a go at the latest Guitar Freaks and Beatmania arcade games.
The publisher had an assortment of playable games on display, as well. Xiaolin Showdown and the Marvel Trading Card Game were available for hands-on time on multiple systems, as were the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS versions of the latest Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer.
On the portable tip, Konami showed Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Lunar Knights for the DS. The company had a full slate of PSP offerings, including Death Jr.: Root of Evil, Coded Arms: Contagion, Online Chess Kingdoms, Steel Horizon, Rengoku 2, Gradius Collection, Brooktown High: Senior Year, and Bomberman Land. The explosive protagonist is also set to appear on the Xbox 360 with Bomberman: Act Zero.
this game may come out for 360 since it is third person
brag a tear to my eye
wow i lol
MGS4 is the only truely great looking games for PS3,and maybe FFXIII
A must have game.
sweet!!
when i click on the images ... it takes me to some game called LUNAR ! please fix it !
MGS4 playable at TGS06....wait until this news hits the headlines
FYI, N-Gage is a new open platform being developed by Nokia. It's not "the" N-Gage phone itself anymore. You might be laughing now, but you won't when you'll see it... it's basically like a mobile Xbox Live.
nice
This game is one of the best at the show and I'm looking forward for this game once it is released even if I don't have a PS3 yet when that time comes. :)
Nothing less than a masterpeice from Kojima
come on it cant be the only reason, I'm gonna buy a PS3 as soon as MGS4 comes out but it's not the only reason im getting it. The PS3 is a beautiful peice of machine man. so pwerful, many features and good games!! my God cant wait till MGS4 comes out.
you can tell it is real time...no matter how close they will get to making real-time rendering look like pre-rendered....there is noticable nuances...in the characters textures, and the world too for that matter.....but GOD IT LOOKS SWEET....it could be the only reason I am getting a ps3
Is any one else here annoyed that te 15 minute tralier is well streaming on Microsoft. Give us Quicktime that way I don't get frustrated by it paushing every 5 seconds and the sound still carrying on!
Yay
go on MR. Koyima!
oh wow I have seen the trailer! Worth the crowd!
A shame the damn thing is so big and thus hard to watch. Upload different rez sizes Kojima!!
Was that supposed to be real time? It didn't look like it. Looked more like updated MGS2 type cinimatic footage. The quality was to grainy but lets hope it plays better than it looks.

Yes N-GAGE has a booth.I have the N-GAGE and it's my favourite cell phone. Before 7 months i bought the Nokia N70 and guess what the Nseries is the next gen console system for nokia. All the Nseries cell phones in less than a year will have the N-GAGE platform inside them.In 2008 the graphics of the Nseries will be better from the Ps2.I have seen it in video at last years E3.You must see the graphics.
Can't wait for this games 2 come out
we gotta say xbox360 has its specials...halo3, fable2, forza2 etc...but ps3 has them too.....so DONT say 360 is better or PS3 is better cuz they are all great games...we all know MGS4 will kick ass but so will halo 3...so let's be objective...they are both great consoles and great games...
You know, going into the xbox 360 section of this website and seeing "E3 06: MGS4 trailer stops show at Konami booth" in the xbox 360 news box when the portion of the story concerning xbox 360 had nothing to do with MGS4 was a dirty, nasty tease. All that excitement, and for what? Effing bomberman?!
MGS4 will own all.
This is the game to end all games............watch and rejoice.
Halo 3, Too Human, Mass Effect, GoW, Forza 2, Fable 2 > MGS4, Warhawk, Gran Turismo. Fact.
MGS FOREVER! 8)
OMFG... I can't Believe it.......... NGage has a booth. All kidding aside.. wait I'm not kidding.. Ngage has a booth? That was a great trailer and it does remind me of Ghost in a Shell and a few other Anime themes about war and the future.
cant stop drooling
what a trailer... loved it, this game is going to be great.
"MGS4 will be one of the, if not the, best game of all time. I can't wait. Gears Of what? Who cares, MGS4 is coming!" HA HA HA HA HA!!!... ...and I'm not laughing with you.
Man the trailer was Awesome, lol N gage booth.
ShinraDrone N-gage has a booth? best comment ever
MGS4 ::drool::...lol theres still an N-gage booth...
that trailer is really amazing
Well, to start, MGS4 is without a doubt going to be one of the greatest games of this console generation. However, reading these comments led me to shake my head a couple of times--namely at people choosing to bash microsoft. Now I for one am neutral as far as console support goes, but I can't help laughing at people who attack 'those fanboys,' following with the baseless assertion that Sony is ontouchable. Why? Because statements like that place the people who make them squarely in that massive cesspool full of whiney, self-important fanboys. Having MGS4 is of course a great boon for the PS3, but Microsoft has its own heavy hitters, the biggest of which is of course Halo 3, which has been as or more successful as a series as Metal Gear Solid commercially and critically. Besides, it is no fact that the PS3 is the most impressive console at this show; Nintendo is the one turning the most heads. Sony is following their strategy that more is automatically better (specifically more power). Now there's nothing wrong with that per se, but the bottom line is that what Sony itself has shown us is technically impressive enough, but is also highly expensive and derivative. It's a damn good thing that 3rd party developers like Konami are developing exceptional games for their system, because guess what kiddos? That's what this game is really all about. Sony will continue to be successful, and they don't need whiney little kids bashing on the other consoles for no reason to do it. Well, that was a nice little rant. I'll be off now, but once more: MGS4 will kick ass, but that does not mean that the Xbox or Wii sucks. So please stop sounding off, Sony doesn't need little whiney brat drones to win its console war for them.
BEST OF E3, WOW I WANT TO PLAY AS RAYDEN NOW! KOJIMA GENIOUS!!
no luv 4 xbox
All I can say is that this game made my decision to get a PS3 (and the new FFXIII titles). Frankly MGS4 is the single most impressive title for me. It's the second most exciting thing next to the Wii console and controller funstion's possibilities. I can't wait to get this game. I'll hold off getting a PS3 likely till after MGS4 comes out.
metal gear solid isn't just a game, its a way of life
Have to admit, even though I'm not a fan of MGS, that the trailer is something spectacular.
The trailer was amazing. Sadly though, it's the only thing about the PS3 that excited me. Same old controller design with a little bit of xbox (guide button in middle) and a little bit of Wii (gyros)... an attempt at xbox live (free sounds good though!)... a price I can't afford... and the usual Sony CGI fest. The trailer was good and all, but how can you really be that excited for a system when over 50% of the games "shown" were just CGI trailers?!
MGS goes from one ridiculous story to another...
Why do the Metal Gear cyborgs sound like cows?
Why isnt the 15 minute one on Gamespot yet?
I have only seen the small version of the MGS 4 trailer, but it's awesome, love the ending.... o_O
Man... this has got to be one of the best E3 to date... if not the best. First, hands down the greatest of the consoles shown (FACT): PS3!!!!, then MGS4 and the whole Kojima Productions and other future games trailers... can humanity even top this??... maybe only getting hooked up to The Matrix. LOL XD
havnt seen the extended one..and cant either..the servers too busy :( wat are the diffs?
