Dope Game blazes on the Web

Counterculture horticulture sim from 89 Games lets users grow pot, opium, and develop heroin, hash, and more.

89 Games' slogan is "High quality games." And with PC titles such as The Dope Game, the emphasis should squarely be on "high." The independent game publisher from New Zealand is currently dealing The Dope Game online.

In the 3D third-person game, players get irie on their farm by growing marijuana and opium, and making the hard stuff (hash, morphine, and heroin) in labs. The goods are then shipped out for cold, hard cash.

However, every wannabe Pablo Escobar knows that the pigs will soon come cracking down on the business, and the trade isn't exactly protected by the government. In order to continue work, gamers will have to defend their turf with a variety of weapons, such as mines, turrets, and missile launchers.

89 Games is selling the game for $19.99 on its Web site. For those strapped for cash, the game's demo is now on GameSpot DLX.
