Donkey Kong Country Returns sells 4.2 million

Well, well deserved success for one hell of a great platformer.

Constantly impressed with the life to date sales of games like Mario Kart Wii and Wii Sports Resort. 26 million copies...third parties may struggle on the Wii, but Nintendo certainly doesn't.

I'm glad I own a Wii now. People say "It has no good games". I certainly laugh at that statement because there are TONS of good and great games on the system. ;)

DKC was simply AWESOME!!! now bring more nintendo!

donkey kong was my favorite wii game of 2010 by far...mario was great but its been awhile since i went on a bannana hunt this good

DKCR is Excellent! almost perfect as DKC2 xD but its worth it, i think this dkcr is the best wii game of 2010

@ monson21502 What's funny is that people must have just thumbs downed you on that comment just because you mentioned it! :P Anyway,it isn't that people here work for Nintendo.It's that they're talking about a system they like with games they like,and you're saying few good games are released for it.Maybe you don't think they're good,but everyone here does.You'd get the same result if you went to a 360 or PS3 page and said," HD sucks',you get no exclusives,'or I hate CoD." If you have something negative to say on a post,you have to word it carefully,so people understand it's a simple concern or opinion,rather than a fanboy's ranting or "trolling". Sometimes I just don't voice my negative thoughts at all,because I hate flame wars.

DKCR is a great game; glad to see it generated the sales it deserves. Nintendo found a real treasure in Retro Studios. Not sure how Mario All-Stars can be counted as a 'Limited Edition' when it already has over 2 million in sales, though. Kinda stretching the word 'limited' to its breaking point. Gotta love the Nintendo Way. A cheap, sturdy console with 30-40 top-shelf, must-have games. Not a ton of variety, but if you like what Nintendo does or you're any kind of serious gamer, you've gotta own their latest. Pair that with their newfound knack for bringing new consumers into the tent, and you've got a really strong blueprint for success.

the new donkey kong sits on my shelf after only an hour of play due to it having tacked on "waggle" controls that just didn't work. "Just because a console can doesn't mean a console should" should be the rule applied to MANY wii games. Very dissapointing especially after all the fun i had with the SNES titles from rareware.

I don't get why Nintendo didn't make a DKC game earlier, the fans obviously wanted it.

@Yams1980 DK, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Metroid are three great games for Wii. There aren't tons but there is still many very fun games. If you can find a used one in the $80-$120 price range then it is worth it. I myself don't play it tons, but I get enough out of it from a few great titles.

I was playing this earlier today in 2P mode with my girlfriend... I had well over 50 balloons(lives) saved up because while I do die I generate way more from secrets that I use... I had to go to the store and buy 30 more =/

I almost bought a WII so I could play this, but decided to buy it for one game would be kinda pointless

I guess the only thing I'd change about SMG or DKC is the lack of challenge. I know some feel its hardish however these are two game with the same exact control scheme that I mastered in the mid 90s. While thats refreshing to play something familiar, it really felt like a "VR" add on pack. I just played through SMG in two sittings, only having the 8-Bit Luigi Purple challenge kill me more than five times. Mostly the reason of death is always from the camera being the same exact mess it was on the 64, its better but when you want control, half the time you can't for no reason. I just don't get how Mario still has the same crap camera scheme all based without a fluid stick. As for DK, I have little complaint. However I've finished DKC 1-3 multiple times so again my the plusses are familiar tight controls, yet along with that comes an understanding of all the things like timing high bounces off enemies. Somethings that are not always understood off the bat. Yet it's nice to see my childhood isn't destroyed by fanchise changing decisions. *Glares at Other M* My only qustion being the amount of things in SMG that were only used once. The vine that you can spin in circle on the Penguin Bowl level, the snow that moves when mario and your cursor moves around on the snow bunny level, and the whole Red star deal. Why make a power up thats never implimented yet available whenever you in the hub? Yet onto SMG2 I go. The only game Ive played that suggests Mario lives centuries (100 years between star showers) or the first game didn't happen. Either way it feels like the plot is hurried and is crushed (The whole luma thing is just a device for you to save the princess rather than vice versa) to let you play the game. Which is probably the best thing about a game that once was going to be a level pack. All in all. Awesome games, great job!

great game, and people may throw the wii under the bus as far as graphics,and lack of third party support but the truth of the matter is this gen microsoft and sony are playing for 2nd place.

smg2 is one of the top ten best games ever. You may think I'm exaggerating but if you play it then you will know what I'm talking about. Congrats to DK i will try it very soon

i had to lol at alex saying this game was brutal some of the later levels feel like they are just punishing you for getting to them

I loved this game but i have three things i hope they change if they make a sequel. Bring back the kremlings, include more kong family members and animal friends, and not make it so hard. I mean i like a challenge but damn this game was brutal lol. I would also like to see another 3d adventure game like DK64 but on the wii.

The game totally deserve those sales, it's an amazing game and the best Wii game of the year, after SMG2 of course.

Can we have a 3D platformer sequel then? :D

This is great news. I have great respect for Retro for taking a long abandoned series and making an excellent quality reboot. Congrats.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns were both excellent games. I just got 200% completion in Donkey Kong.

Wow, I really need to play Donkey Kong now... What amazed me was the amount Black & White has sold in Japan alone, half of HGSS sales...

I just beat donkey kong country returns, what a hard game, it took alot of lives to beat the game, something that is not around in other games as much, difficulty to this extent, but in such a good way, really great game and I cant wait for the second one, i do hope they put some more animal friends to ride back into the game though, but that is the only thing I wished they would of done but that is just my opinion, still loved the game, totally worth a 9.0 or a 9.5 rating

well seams like wii had a good 2010 afterall , --- all of its games were rated 8 plus well nearly all , of its big ones, and ya who dont like dk, i got that day one same with ge007 im getting kirby and metroid other m very soon , since i didnt pick thos yet and the new kirby dreamland as well as that pandora tower and zelda wii game , , those are my next big buys besides 3ds which is already on preorder

Agree with the praise for DKCR. I asked for it for Xmas thinking I was gonna get a solid platformer and was absolutely tickled pink I got a great one. Its the first game outside of a Rock Band, Just Dance or any other casual game on any system that my girlfriend plays along with me and loves it just as much.

Nice to see SMG2 doing good.
