Square Enix reveals new installment, characters for PSP fighting game spin-off as latest console RPG hits Xbox 360 in home country with "Ultimate Hits International" version.
Last year's Final Fantasy fighting game spin-off for the PSP is getting a rematch. According to an Andriasang translation of the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, a new Dissidia is planned for release next year.
Dubbed "Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy," the game will follow in its predecessor's mold of mixing characters from throughout the storied franchise's lengthy history. Already confirmed for the game are Final Fantasy XIII protagonist Lightning and Final Fantasy IV's lance-wielding dragoon Kain.
The original Dissidia featured more than 20 characters from the first dozen Final Fantasy games, all of whom were called into battle by warring gods. In addition to series protagonists, such as Squall, Cloud, and Tidus, the roster included more villainous entrants such as Sephiroth.
Lightning has one more stop before she can appear in the new Dissidia, as Square Enix updated its official Final Fantasy XIII site to note that the Xbox 360 edition of the game--previously released only in the West--will make its Japanese debut by year's end. The Ultimate Hits International edition of the game will come with an easy mode, a bonus Corridor of Memory booklet, and a novel chronicling the game's aftermath. It launches on Japanese Xbox 360s December 16 for ¥4,980 ($59).
I really wanted to see Seifer pissing around other characters in the battle. Edgar, flirting with other women would be fun to watch. Zack would be great to replace the always moody Cloud. And I think that a bunch of female characters should come to life in Dissidia 2. Rinoa, Yuna, Garnet, Rosa, Tifa... I mean, they're classical female characters from Video Games and were completely put aside in the first Dissidia.
Thunder God Cid, Ramza, and Delita would be perfect on this game, along with Auron, Shadow, Paine (Final Fantasy X-2 for those who don't know), and I would personally like to see Reks from XII be in it. The first Dissidia was really good. It had an excellent cast of character, good stage selection, excellent multiplayer system, and awesome soundtrack. It should be ported to PS3 and/or XBox 360, it would be much more accessible to people.
Man this is awesome they should add 2 characters to ff game hero and villian(new characters not the same old ones, then that would add up to like over 40 characters including ff13 characters. )like vicent for ff7 or seymour and aroun for ff10,another thing they should do is put addons like download kingdom hearts characters like Sora and Xemmnas then with some boss batlle music and the fight against Terra music and The World that never was as a stage with playable storylines.Sora would team up with Squall and Cloud epicness just pure epicness. One more thing they should do is make storylines for villians to that would make the game longer.Oh and including ff14 charcters to since the game is coming out at the end of this month.
i love the 1st game all i ask for in the sequel is to make it a little darker or somthing that whole watered down teamwork is the key storyline really wasn't cutting it for me. leave that stuff for the disney games
FFXIII will come with an easy mode? What, is it going to press X over and over for you? The game was already easy. I'd rather see some new development for FFXIII-versus. So far, the game looks like it has a more open world concept. I hope they plan on going back to the older days of rpgs.
I think Dissidia would be better suited on a console rather than the psp. Not only just graphic-wise but think of how overall better the controls would be not to metion how much bigger the roaster would be. Or better yet why not have a release for 3DS. Just having it on psp again isn't a good idea in my opinion..
FF7 Cid all the way. And another good character from FFXI would be cool, maybe someone like Najelithedit.
Who cares about Lightning. Kain, though?!?!?! SWEEEEEEET!! Now just give me, Freya, Fran, Zell, and Kimahri and put it on the consoles. 360, PS3, I don't care, just put it on the consoles.
@kavadias1981 You can get FF1 and 2 on the PSP. 4, 5 and 6 came out together on the PS1 and you can still find copies of the others about.
Every time I hear the word Dissidia I wanna cry, after my memory stick deleted my 220 hour save file! All that time and joy, for nothing! Still, I now have a Sony one and it works perfectly, so I will be looking forward to Dissidia 2 with excitement. The thing is, I have no experience of FF's 1-2, 4-6 and 10-13, so I am pretty lacking. I just wish they would release a compilation of FF's 1-6, so that I can finally enjoy them. I heard 11 wasn't worth the time though, so I won't bother there.
Dissidia is a great game, but I believe the storyline is a little lacking. It made the characters seem to have little if any depth. That put aside, the game itself is a final fantasy fan's dream come true. The sequel should feature more than just the main character from each game though.
kain is gonna be awesomeee.and lightning too. but id love to see zack and, i know its ridiculous, but aeris. she was my favorite character from final fantasy 7 and itd be awesome to see her in the sequel.
Am i the only one who is happy with lightning coming to dissidia?I hope they put zack and genesis from CC.
A Dissidia game for consoles would be a day one purchase for me, but sadly I don't see them spending the money or the time to make it happen...so I guess I'll have to get a PSP. Vrygar777, I also agree that we NEED TG Cid for this. Along with FFVI, the original Tactics is tied for my favorite Final Fantasy of all time. Throw in one of the Lucavi demons while we're at it. My vote is for Velius, that four-armed goaty jerk who gave me so much trouble my first time through the game...
Awesome. I am still playing the first one. Trying to beat Chaos with every character is pretty hard. I hope I finish by the time this one comes out.
Will Gamespot stop at nothing with these puns? And is there any chance of a PS3 Ultimate Hits, so we can at least import?
So many good choices I'm seeing, but epic shout out to those repping Tactics, especially Orlandu...but if Orlandu were in this game too, he'd break it just like he broke everything, literally and figuratively in Tactics...total BAMF...
Sweet I loved the original, and despite not been a fan of FFXIII I did like Lightning, though I hope they will put a Dissidia game on PS3/360 it would be so much better and could actually have a good online mode, maybe as an online arcade game, though retail would be better.
Vaan should be around this time,Zack too i wish they include, even if its just 1,a character from KH *o*
How about...Genesis, Zack, Laguna, Noctis, Hope, Setzer Seymour, Kimahri, Auron, Vaan, Reks, Marquis, Jihl, Rygdea, Maqui, Lebreau, Yuj, Stella, and some of the Agito guys then its perfect!
