Company intends to break into free-to-play market with buyout using developers of Heroes of the Pantheon.

Disney Interactive, the publisher behind the recent Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, has purchased South Korean developer StudioEX.

StudioEX is the developer behind the Facebook title Heroes of the Pantheon and was acquired through a stock purchase agreement. According to Disney Interactive (via Gamesindustry.biz), it intends to use the studio as a way to enter Asia's free-to-play market.

Previously, Disney had partnered with Korean studios Smilegate and Zipi Studio. The studios will be used to create online games using the Marvel and Pixar franchises, specifically Toy Story and Cars for the latter.

I see below the article that the Disney game division posted a $216 million dollar loss. I don't think this really helps, but hey at least their trying.

I hope Disney can crank out an amazing game soon.

I hope they do a better job than the 'why is this just another strategy without multiplayer on a handheld with WiFi screaming for attention' Heroes of Pantheon, and with a bit more appeal than Kingdom Hearts, I mean, not all of us like to play emo characters and heroines...

Now they need to buy the City of Heroes IP from NCSoft, while they're invested with overseas companies.

Lol. What if Disney bought out EA? I don't know if that would be a good thing or a bad thing.

@The-Neon-Seal The more I think about it, the more I think this is a real possibility. Disney is becoming more of an entertainment conglomerate every day,

Unfortunately, mergers and acquisitions most often do not work out in the corporate world for many different reasons. Oh, gotta please those shareholders.

@Nexozable You wouldn't think they'll keep all of that money they make each year, knowingly the company's annul gain is $30-$40 billion.
