Disgaea, Atelier crossover for PS3 headed to US, Europe
Nippon Ichi to bring Trinity Universe to Sony's system this June; familiar faces like Etna, Prinnies jump to 3D in upcoming role-playing game.
While Nippon Ichi Software is still a niche publisher of games in the West, it has enjoyed continued success with its imported role-playing games, specifically the Disgaea series of strategy RPGs and the more traditionalist Atelier RPG franchise. Gamers will soon discover if those tastes taste great together, as NIS announced today that will publishing the Disgaea-Atelier crossover game Trinity Universe in North America and Europe this June.
Set for release on the PlayStation 3, the RPG Trinity Universe will take the pair of 2D franchises into the third dimension for the first time. The game will feature faces familiar to fans of the series, including original Disgaea staples Etna, Flonne, and the ever-abused army of penguin servants known as Prinnies. Nippon Ichi promises a wealth of other guest appearances that should ring a bell for fans of the publisher's franchises.
Beyond the returning characters, Trinity Universe will be set in an original Netheruniverse in danger of demolition from space debris. Previously, the Netheruniverse had been protected by a series of Demon God Kings whose title came with the understanding that they would eventually sacrifice themselves to prevent such calamity. But the latest such ruler, Kanata, has gone into hiding rather than accept the responsibility. Meanwhile, galactic peacekeeping valkyrie Rizelea has learned of the peril and launches her own investigation into the matter.
Trinity Universe is being developed by Idea Factory, the outfit behind a wide swatch of strategy games, from this month's DS debut Spectral Force Genesis to PSP efforts Neverland Card Battles and Generation of Chaos. Yeah I wish i could get both, but maybe I will eventually in the future, atm just have a wii, thats all xD.
@BasilVZero could get both. that could keep your head above the console fanboys too
Was so tempted to get the Japanese version but now can wait for a few more months for this. Good on ya Nippon Ichi! :D
Oh wow, now I want the ps3 more than the 360 xD, damn, cant decide which to get now again =_=.
Oh hells to the yeah! Tough, I wish it got released on the PS2 instead...
'bout time we can finally see Laharl & Etna in 3D. I knew NIS wouldn't leave Trinity Universe out in the cold, especially after they brought over Cross Edge.
Hm... Frankly, I'm sick of Etna's face. I've hated the character from Disgaea 1 onward yet she's been a poster mark on Disgaea 2, Cross Edge, -and- to a lesser degree the PSP Prinny game, and the one screen shot they chose for this has her in it. She's a sad Laharl-wannabe at best but gets a multiplicity more showing and in-games respect. I'll definitely look around for information on this game though.
LAHARAL!!!!!! Muhahahaha!!!!
About time they took the leap forward! Disgaea 3 might have worked as a PS2 game, but we all know the jump had to happen. When Cross Edge came out last year along with a lot of PS2 niche stuff like Mana Khemia it felt like the 2D style had been hounded to death. From the one action shot, Etna looks good and gives the vibe of the game behaving like a manga in real-time if some of the cutscenes are done in that engine... which they should, since Gust titles always use a mix of flat dialogue boxes and three-quarter view stuff.
for PS3 ? new generation consoles fails to deliver a good RPG except for Lost Odyssey , I think it's better to be on PS2
@TheEldestGod Well, he was in a rap group with Bud Bundy and became a Scientologist... can't say I'd call that a 'win.'
@Rottenwood Haha! Parker Lewis... That's too funny, man! Did he ever actually lose? I think he did.
Oh, and for the record Mr. Sinclair, I believe you meant a wide "swath" of strategy games. A Swatch is a brand of watches we rocked in the 1980's right next to our fly wristbands. Just ask my buddy Parker Lewis.
Laharl and Adell Ftw :)
I still haven't done everything there is to do in disgaea 3 yet or finished cross edge but i will be getting this for sure. I have to support,...
looks cool
@Kitty_Fields Yeah I did forget those! I always forget Demon's Souls cuz I'm in the UK and it's not been released here yet >_> But it doesn't matter, there's no reasoning with a fanboy that's as far gone as he is. Look at sixoneone's profile, he's gone through and rated every PS3 game a 1, even though he's rated the 360 versions of the same games a 9 or 10. He is in fact, the most deluded fanboy I've ever encountered on here.
wut? 3D ? Burn in hell dammit :'( bring back my lovely sprites
I'd like to see some gameplay, please. Will this be a strategic RPG title, or will it be a traditional turn-based RPG?
Finally I havent played any of the disgaea games since PS2, I think in this day and age all games need to have a good graphics. Cartoony 2D graphics were past gen IMO.
@DeadnBuried: You missed the PS3 port of Eternal Sonata, Atelier Rorona, and Demon's Souls. As for this game, I'm a bit wary of the crossovers. I do love Disgaea and I enjoyed what I player of the first Atelier Iris game, though, so who knows? Eitehr way I'm thankful for it hitting Western shores.
Give me trophy support and patches for Disgaea 3 in europe. Don't want to buy another full price game without support. As much as I like the stories and humor of Disgaea.
@sixoneone Also, I hear your point about the RPGs, but you forgot that we have Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 - with Disgaea 4 in the making. Then there's FF Versus 13 and FF14, as well as Cross Edge, Agarest: Generations of War, and the icing on the cake is that all of your RPGs are coming to us anyway (Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia - both with extra characters and other bonuses for our versions), so I really wouldn't brag too much if I were you kiddo.
looks awesome but I wonder how Nippon ichi software are going to screw me over on this one
@sixoneone Yeah pal you say that. But in the UK, even with that advertising, FF13 still sold 54% of its copies on the PS3 in the first week, so most people clearly aren't as sheltered/retarded as your friends.
Yes, now I won't have to import this. Thanks for showing some love for RPG fans
kool
@ sixoneone It's Sony's fault if they don't want to advertise like Microsoft. Nothing is stopping them advertising FF13.
God...ahem, darn it. We want Tales of Vesperia! Why the heck are we wasting our efforts with this kind of...urgh...
Is this going to be an RPG or a SRPG?
I love all things Disgaea, but Idea Factory? I dunno.
@sixoneone blah blah my system is better than yours blah blah to you too. Just because Microsoft has bought exclusive games away doesn't make PS3 a failure in my books. The system would be a failure if it had no exclusives at all left to compete with, no games coming out (if having at all) and the system stopped selling, while in reality the PS3 is the one selling more than X360 weekly. I've thought of buying an X360 next to my PS3. I haven't, because too many of the games are simply on both systems and I don't feel the need to have two consoles for that. The exclusives on X360s are mostly on PC too, which I'll build later during this summer so another point there for me not to buy X360. Why does this matter? Because not everyone thinks the system is a failure just because not every game that used to be an exclusive is anymore. Every company has had it's downhills and upways, personally I think Sony went downhill after PS2, but they're slowly starting to gain height again now since 2009. While Microsoft obviously did better than in the previous generation. P.S. Not to go personal, but play the games before you rate them, don't rate them depending on what platform is it on. For example; your FF13 being 1.0 on PS3, 9.5 on X360 really makes it look a bit like what .. you know, a fanboy would do..? Of course you may continue doing that, but it sure makes people respect you less as a gamer, but instead think you as a fanboy. Bottomline; Play the games on the console you want to, love the console you want to, but don't go too far with the love to actually start complaining about the other only due to not owning that system and therefore making you feel more secure about the purchase of the one's you own. Your console is not going to dump you for not disrespecting the other. They're all amazing products, none of the systems is a failure as long as there are people liking the system and that doesn't change whatever you - or anyone else says.
AND why does square advertise FF13 only on XBOX? all my friends think that PS3 not even have this game...
(takes breath...) Star ocean (year early!) infinite undicovered! Enchant Farm even come early on 360! Why sony where the real JRPG?! Not scrap like white knight carnicle(FLOP OF THE YEAR!)
not to mention ps3 gets secondary scraps yes scrap from developers like star ocean a full year after i beat it and trade it in... scrap system for scrap gamer! whats going on sony why did u betray us japanese gamer when u make PS3 a failure and MS get all the good JRPG, FF13, Tales, Lost odyssey, blue dragon, magna carta 2!

silly gameplay but it's ok
orestes1981 Posted Mar 24, 2010 2:43 am ET @sixoneone In what reality do you have to live where Cross Edge, Disgaea 3, etc are available to english speaking 360 customers? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The same reality in which Sega's localization producer would have been smart to say "RoF should have been given at least 50% if not full English VA" and then actually put it in the game.
i want my English Vesperia fon ps3 dammit
Prinny lives again!
Another potential to add to my PS3 RPG collection.....right next to my awesome Cross Edge, FF XIII, WKC, SO4, VC, RoF, and the "not" so awesome but still ok Enchanted Arms.
@sixoneone In what reality do you have to live where Cross Edge, Disgaea 3, etc are available to english speaking 360 customers?
I recently bought cross edge to fill in the void of disgaea for the ps3 lately but this news definitely doesn't disappoint. Sounds awesome dood.
@sixoneone xbox360 the real JRPG? Really?
bring to xbox360, the real jrpg system. neo excuse for any serious JRPG developer to not support the jrpg gamer system
I am happy to get any jrpg over here. I will deal with the short comings.
I'll remain extremely skeptical right now because if it's like that disaster of a game, Cross Edge, then it will be a definite pass.
cross over titles always make me worry due to the fact most time its great francise but put to gether and here i knowtic one of my favorite series is here disgaea. the last crossover game i miss due to it getting horrible reviews and there were other games out that i want to try.
If this game is like Cross Edge, I think I'm going to stop playing games by them. They better start getting their act together and stop throwing crap together. I know they can do better then that.
I'm semi-interested in this game.
