Yeah i was originally turned of by the graphics but when I actually played it (D3) It was a amazing game/experience.Defiantly getting no 4
Next installment of Nippon Ichi Software's turn-based strategy RPG series receiving a new graphics engine, confirmed for North American release.
While Disgaea 3 for the PlayStation 3 was well received critically, the strategy role-playing game was dinged for its dated visuals, which hadn't evolved much from the series' first two PlayStation 2 installments. Developer Nippon Ichi Software is apparently addressing that complaint for Disgaea 4, as it officially announced the title today, specifying that it will be built on an entirely new graphics engine.
Set for North American release next summer, Disgaea 4 will incorporate new visuals and battle systems while retaining many of the series' most familiar aspects. Characters like "Dark Hero" Axel and the penguin-like servant Prinnies will be returning, as will many familiar character and enemy types, all re-rendered to take advantage of the new engine.
Impatient gamers eager for more from the creators of Disgaea can instead look forward to the PSP superhero strategy RPG Z.H.P. in North America this fall. Known in Japan as Zettai Hero Keikakuin, Z.H.P. lets players create their own heroes and bases of operations and then do battle with the forces of evil on randomly generated maps. Disgaea series producer Souhei Niikawa set a very high bar for the game when he introduced it at an NIS America event in July, saying it was made "to surpass Disgaea."
Oh lord. Disgaea. I have put more time into this series than I have in the last 3 or so years playing WoW. Such an addictive game...
Basically Disgaea dont take a long time to make, they just announce its in the work around april to may and will be sharing some info at TGS, and all of sudden they said its rdy to release by Feb of next year in Japan, you know, thats probably 10months in the making if we assume they were already working on it before they even share the info. Will we see a new system change or overhaul, not in this disgaea, maybe dis5, but we will likely to see a system overhaul in dis6, but dont quote me on it.
Honestly, who cares what a Disgaea game looks like? You play it for the goofy charm and the insane depth and customization. Do what you gotta do to sell units, NIS, but don't forget where your strengths are.
My prayers have been answered and this new Z.H.P. looks like a good reason to pick up a new PSP. Good things come in threes so what's next? Bring it on NIS. Thank you.
So instead of looking like a PSone tittle it'll look like a PS2 tittle? It'll be interesting to see how big of an improvement they actually make. I love the series, it just made my eyes bleed and made me feel 12 again(That's how games looked when I was 12 -1992).
How these companies have the money to bring games to the US that consistently fail to perform financially is beyond me. I can't imagine that we will be seeing a lot of quality jrpg's coming stateside anymore, unless they start doing some big numbers here on a FF level. These devs have got to tread very lightly when they talk about "westernizing" the games to make them more appealing to western gamers because they run the risk of not only alienating their CORE fan base, but coming out with a jumbled mess as the final product.... stick to what you do best... you can't please everyone, and if you can't make the money back you put into development, it's time to stick to Asia and let the true fans import their games. Unfortunately, the audience is shrinking in the West and being replaced with mindless MP shooters... I can't wait until we get through this faze of the industry... shooters with 3 hour campaigns and mostly relying on MP should be running it's coarse in a few years.... i hope.
'Condemns?' Is this game going to be so bad that it kills the PS3's summer lineup? What is this title supposed to mean? :(
Thank god they're finally updating the graphics. Don't get me wrong, 2D sprites are the way to go, but Disgaea's been a bit behind some of the competition when it comes to gorgeous sprites. Bring it up to Prinny:CIRBTH standards, d00ds!
im excited about this game, but i would eventually like another disgaea where laharl and co are the main characters again
I knew a few days ago sometimes you can't relay on gamespot to get the latest news, but you can relay on them giving it you a few days after :P anyway can't wait for this game I love Disgaea
http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010/09/18/disgaea-4-announced-for-the-ps3/ trailer: looks cool
i love the two first disgaea but the third one disappointed to me with its generic school theme, and the lack of content the 2nd one had. another problem was 50 DOLLAR DLC WTF HALF OF THAT SHOULD OF BEEN IN THE GAME AlREADY AND ANOTHER 1/3 OF IT SHOULD BE FREE...yet im still a fan of the series please no more dlc like in prinny, d3, and d2 make it reasonable or make it free.
I like Disgaea the way it is. The graphics aren't the draw of the game, its the crazy story and nonsensical writing.
@FallenAngel They basically updated the graphic engine, dis3 was using the same graphic engine as they did in 1 and 2, basically what they address is the most common complaints from fans, its the graphic, so they answered ur call and updated. But compare to 1, 2, and 3, it isnt much of an improvement if u ask me, but still, cant wait for it
@Hosadesu That's what I thought too. Read new graphics engine, and it still doesn't look much better. NISoft used to be great, they've gone so darn lazy the last few years releasing one after another subpar game after subpar game (bar Holy Invasion of Privacy) it's not even funny
Well received? Oh come on, now gamespot is even lying? I know they're payed to lie and give good reviews, but this is to much.. Disgaea 3 is a huge part of the reason they're on their last leg financially, it was terrible and flat out lazy. A game that had no excuse being on a next get console and introduced nothing into the game system. Sickening..
Disgaea is a wonderful series, and I am glad to a new installment. For the meantime time, to hit the world of Disgaea 3!
I loved 1 and 2, but 3 had a fairly boring story and just didn't do anything for me. Hopefully 4 has a better story than 3, among other things. Of course, I'll buy it no matter what. After the first two entries, they deserve another shot.
Glad to hear, Disgaea is a great series, but seriously graphics aren't everything. People who refuse to play games simply because its graphics engine isn't up to their standards don't deserve to call themselves gamers. On another note, to the guy who was like I'm glad this isn't coming to the 360. Grow up.
I knew NIS wouldn't let us down when it comes to localizing their JRPG's that's why they're my favorite company. Time for more intense level grinding dood.
It makes me sad that they are staying PS exclusive. Loved 1 and 2 but haven't sprung for the PS3 yet (lack of money/no BC). I will eventually though. Just hoping all the games I want are still around when I can afford it.

It's cool that they're doing another graphics engine. Good thing it's staying 2D. Though, it doesn't matter to me much since I couldn't get into any of the Disgaea games. Too much grinding.

I've been a fan of the Disgaea franchise for a while now, so this is great news. Also its nice to see that they are going with a new graphics engine, I mean Disgaea 3 was great but the graphics were pretty rough. Can't wait!
