Disgaea 3 heads for Vita, NIS takes on Clan of Champions

NIS America's spring 2012 lineup features portable rerelease, original action game, and Hyperdimension Neptunia sequel; original Disgaea retooled for US Android phones this fall.

TOKYO--Away from the crowded halls of the Tokyo Game Show, NIS America held a press event at a hotel nearby to announce a handful of upcoming 2012 titles, which include Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention on the PlayStation Vita; Clans of Champions on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC; and Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 for the PS3.

Disgaea 3 is described as a "reincarnation" of the original that will have new characters, new storylines, and new items. All the downloadable content that was released on the PlayStation 3 version will be included in the game as well, and the controls are being redesigned to take advantage of the Vita's touch-screen controls.

Hyperdimension Neptunia MK2 will see the return of the console goddesses that were featured in the first game, which was set in the land of Gamindustri. Targeted at the hardcore otaku audience, there is no shortage of sexy young girls in this sequel. It will feature a free-roaming style battle system and a more-streamlined combo system for faster combo executions.

The final game in NIS's lineup is Clan of Champions, an action game known as Gladiator in Japan, and is it developed by Acquire, which is best known for its work on the Tenchu and Way of the Samurai series. Players can choose from three races (human, elf, or orc) to take on mission challenges solo or with up to three people online. The game also features a three-on-three team battle mode where players can fight with and against their friends.

All three of those titles will be available in the spring of 2012, but NIS America today also announced a fall US release for Disgaea: Netherworld Unbound. Based largely on the original Disgaea, Netherworld Unbound is being streamlined for a cell phone interface and will let gamers purchase extra characters, items, and features.

@Rottenwood I didn't know there were more then one Hyperdimension Neptunia games I thought there were only one atm

I totally love nis america and I will be getting pretty much all of the games approve so just bring it I got my cash ready!!

Its raining cats and dogs with Vita games, and the system hasn't even released yet. Can't wait to see Vita's library of games after a year of its release, might just surpass the ps2 and ds in terms of quantity, and with the quality........well with the system specs and the games, Vita's going to be extremely hard to resist

@Sigil: It's probably to appeal to those of us who plan to get a Vita but never got a PS3. Remember: the PS3 got off to a terrible start and didn't become the ball of awesomeness that is today until not too long ago. It did the utter reverse of the Wii, which came out awesome and has since devolved into a really expensive brick that keeps cat hair off my XBox.

I like the Disgaea series but wow. You've got to be senseless to rebuy a game from this very gen just to play it again. I want the Halo CE HD remake and the Shadow of the Colossus / Ico HD collection but that's it, the rest of these ports and stuff suck. Like metal gear which misses the original game (the silent hill misses one too if I remember) and ports of games from this generation? So sad.

I thought Hyperdimension Neptunia was excellent.... HN Mk.2 is what stokes me the most from the Prinny Bomb and this list. I guess i'm outside the "target" audience, though. They aren't going to learn that some people just like playing games for what they are and not for what's in them.

Clan of Champions... on the PS3, 360, and... PC! Sweet! I've been waiting for a localization company to show some PC love! Please tell me it's going to be on Steam... Neptunia's crap though. Disgaea 3... well, that's good news for Disgaea fans.

The Vita is going to have a great year next year can't wait to get my hands on one so I can play the revamped versions of some of these old classics.

from what I've seen the gameplay in Hyperdimension neptunia has been greatly improved and i like it, definitely a pre-order for me :)

It's a shame that the Hyperdimension Neptunia games have such so-so gameplay, because the concept is utter genius - characters that represent manifestations of video game consoles and cultural artifacts, complete with Red Ring Of Death attacks.
