Off-road racing sequel hitting stores worldwide at the end of May.
The Dirt franchise has lifted Codemasters to the top tier of racing game developers, ably assisted by the well-reviewed Race Driver: Grid, helping the firm win the Formula One licence to bring the pinnacle of motorsports back to consoles after a long absence.
The long-standing Colin McRae franchise started life in 1998 and gained the Dirt moniker in 2007. Since then the franchise has gone from strength to strength as Dirt has moved from a serious rally sim into a more extreme motorsports festival. Codemasters today confirmed that gamers would be able to see if this trend is to continue on May 24, when Dirt 3 will be released worldwide on the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360.
Dirt 3 looks to continue the series' move away from pure rallying with the addition of the gymkhana discipline to the event list. This sits alongside traditional rallies, point-to-point races, rallycross events, and more primarily off-road activities in a range of vehicles.
The title was first shown off in a trailer that was released in conjunction with the X Games in August 2010. For more on the Dirt series, check out the GameSpot review of Dirt 2, the latest hands-on with Dirt 3, or the developer diary below.
IF U MAKE IT LIKE F1 I AM SOO GONNA HATE IT!! DIRT 2 is nearly perfect if i can drive backwards to hit on newbs!
@BALLS_09 Didnt mean to offend you mate... just putting my opinion across with regards my likes and dislike towards Dirt! As far as i know i didnt slate the game what so ever... i do actually like Dirt 2! it has good physics (but not the best) and STUNNING visuals!!!
OK to everyone complaining about adding the Baja trucks and buggies and all that stuff and saying Colin Mcrae only did rally well if you read the title of DIRT 2 and DIRT 3 well they dont have his name, they arnt his games only DIRT was a Colin Mcrae game. So stfu and go play DIRT all us other people will be happy racing Gymkhana.
Collin Mcrae games are always awesome, and i loved the two first ones. At first i hated the variety in events of Dirt2, since i was so used to just rally but they grew on me. Picking this one up for sure
If they don't have 4 player split screen then I will not be buying it. Plus I don;t like the fact of how far they are moving away from actual rally racing. I rented the first 2 but just couldn't get into to it. Don;t see why so many leave out 4 player split screen options. Colin Mcrae rally 2005 had it so why can't they have it now. That's the last time I bought one of their games. They would sell more copies if they would keep in those options. Just like how Project Gotham racing had those options in the first 2 games but 3 and 4 didn't so I didn't buy those editions. How about they give some offline gamers some love for once. If they did I would buy it.
WTH!! I just picked up Dirt 2 for $10. Yeaj I waited as I was playing other racing games likes Forza 3, Modnation Racing and NFS: Hot Pursuit
lets c grid 2 after this game, and to all the people saying that it should be just rallys, stop complaining, i thought the racing was the best not rally
I am disapointed by the fact that Codemasters are keeping the theme of anything that goes off road is going to be in the game!.. I was gob-smacked by how good Dirt 2 looked but i really was annoyed with all the different race types... Colin McRae is and should be just Rally cars.. WRC has nothing on the Dirt series other than the fact it has more depth on realism (with regards to game physics).. i will probably buy Dirt 3 just to see what it is like!
what the heck is happening :O now dirt3 is coming this year there are minimum 50 AAA games coming this year ohhhhh GOD its a effing good year to be a gamer
Just wish it would have a larger focus on REAL rally racing like Collin Mcrae series of games. Those were a blast with all the technical point to point true to life rally races...
Awesome, can't wait. It is on the list next to grid 2 and shift. What's up with GRID 2. I heard it is suppose to be in development. http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/7/6/codemasters-goes-directx-11-dirt-22c-grid-22c-and-f1-2010.aspx
They have focused on rally more this time around, and gymkhana is a great addition. PC platform is the way to go with codemaster games :)
Dirt2 was one of the best and funnest racing games I've played. Gameplay was solid and visuals were stunning. I will be playing this game Day 1. I just hope it has a little more longevity.
This title looks very promising compared to the last two titles. However I do agree with Gooeykat. Codemasters does need to make Grid 2.
@racing1750 don't forget rFactor 2 (or so they say), and Formula One 2011 is supposed to be out by year's end too.
A few features left out that I think people should know about; There will be night time racing, improved physics, improved damage, replay uploads to Youtube, and weather including ice, snow and rain. There will also be over 50 cars and 32 rally stages.
I got mine dirt 2 free when i bought a ATI aka AMD graphics card. they better take a grfx & effects up a notch. this game would look awesome in 3D
Nice! This year delivers in the racing genre. First TDU2, then Dirt 3, then shift 2 and then the AAA racing franchise Forza 4!
I hope this means the PC version is coming out May 24th also, I really don't want to be waiting till sep/nov time just to play.
