DICE talks future of Mirror's Edge, Bad Company

Executive producer Patrick Bach says, "We never kill something that is great," but is coy on hard details for sequels.

The Mirror's Edge and Bad Company franchises have lain dormant since 2008 and 2010, respectively, with developer DICE remaining coy about the future of both series. Now, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has confirmed that it remains committed to those properties.

Speaking to IGN, Bach said, "We never kill something that is great. Mirror's Edge is a game that we of course all love. It was a great game. It had some flaws, of course, like all games. But in general, it's an IP that we love and of course we haven't killed it, because it's too good to kill."

As for a sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Bach expressed a similar level of adoration for the franchise, but did not lay out any specific plans for the series.

"The Bad Company IP is still something we love," Bach continued. "And it’s very dear to me because I worked on both titles. We have no information with where we are to a sequel to Bad Company."

DICE may already be at work on new entries in both franchises. In May, various LinkedIn resumes included mention of Bad Company 3 and Mirror's Edge 2. Publisher Electronic Arts declined to comment on these rumors.

I hope they get rid of those cartoon cutscenes for Mirror's Edge 2 and open up the world to more exploration. Free running was awesome but the over abundance of cops and ultimately linear paths put a major damper on the fun.

Mirror's Edge 2 needs to happen. Just make it longer, that game didn't have enough hours of bad ass ness

MORE Mirror's Edge!  This time instead of timed ghost runs make the multiplayer an open world free running playground!

Still plaing BC2 but maps are getting boring also the game needs some attention as i get a lot of lag and loss of points.

Mirrors Edge is in my top 3 games of all time, I play is at least twice a year. Not only because of the unique game play, but because of the absolutely perfect art style. I love it! I cannot wait for the next one, as long as you know, they don't change the formula too much.

I agree completely with you. Two things they should definetly add is a free-roam system and if they get the free roam nailed right then they could have a online free roam thing

@eddyoshi Free roam would be an amazing feature. Should totally suggest that on the DICE forums.

Sure they did it in the training area (easter egg if you will). Hopefully they can do like one bulding to free roam around and make it larger from there. Shadow of the colosus and GTA had open worlds where you could grab on to almost everything

The only thing Mirror's Edge needed was to be twice as long (at least) and consistently as good as some of the sections were. The entire thing didn't have much replay ability, and that was due to the flaws. The music was fantastic, and the graphics in my opinion were really quite amazing for the most part as well, both those two things lent a hand in making a great atmosphere that made me want to visit the game again at least once or twice more, although not immediately after.

It's just one of those games that could have had more going for it, but it fell short, and for it, it in a sense was somewhat forgettable compared to other titles to come out around the time. As for Bad Company, I'm not a huge fan of those games, but both had great graphics and great sound. That's what DICE seems to be really great at. I'm more interested to see where Mirror's Edge is headed. I'd really hope they keep what was great about the first, and improve on everything else around it including what was great, and then that'd be something special in its entirety.

As much as I want Mirror's Edge 2 it should probably wait for next gen. It'll allow for a really good fresh feel on top of the one that the whole game's atmosphere is full of anyway.

Don't mess up the story of Bad company 3. Keep it light hearted and hilarious. We need LESS serious and dark FPS games set in modern eras.

I've been desperately awaiting a Mirror's Edge 2. That first game was amazing. In fact, I want to play it again now that I was reminded of its existence.

Hope they give the option to play in 3rd person in Mirrors Edge 2. I think I'd like that.

You're kidding right? The whole experience is realized because of the first person perspective. Something tells me you didn't even play mirrors edge@CARTchamp

Yes I did play it and if you noticed I asked for the option to play in 3rd person and stated that I think I would like it. Great thing about the word option is it means if you don't like it you wouldnt have to use it. Not sure how you are coming up with wanting the option for 3rd person = never played. After all a first person game with a 3rd person option could never possibly work (Elder Scrolls, Skyrim......). Wasn't there a 3rd person mod for the PC version?

 @bimastrike871

That is such a retarded argument. Just because first person was the main experience, means that third person couldn't also be made as part of the experience?

bimastrike871

Obviously you've never played the game, the concept would only be fully realized in a first person perspective @Dudeinator

I would love to see Mirror's Edge 2 and Bad Company 3.  I just hope they stick to the basics of what made those games so great to begin with.
