Anyone else notice that Diablo is secrectly an MMO in the closet? Blizzard should just come out of the closet and say that this game is actually a Free to Play MMO. Lets go through the MMO checklist below: 1. Absolutely requires a connection to battle.net servers/ internet access in order to play. 2. No offline mode. 3. You can't make an offline character. 4. The single player character also counts as the multiplayer one. 5. In game transactions require REAL money. 6. Mods are absolutely not supported and will never be supported. 7. Blizzard takes a cut of the in game transactions. Although I am fine with all the above, I am not fine with the requirement of having internet access just to play a single player game, WTF Blizzard?
Blizzard confirms Diablo 3 will miss its projected 2011 release date; promises "additional testing phases," extended beta.
Just three days ago, Blizzard Entertainment brought good news to Diablo III fans in the form of the launch of the closed beta for the action role-playing game. Now, the California-based developer has some less-than-wonderful information to share: Diablo III will not ship in 2011, as had been previously suggested. Instead, the game is now scheduled to find its way to stores in "early 2012," according to Blizzard.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime explained that the studio was "hopeful" that the game would ship in 2011, but ultimately that launch window became impossible to meet. "This week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not," he explained.
According to Morhaime, the extra time will afford Blizzard the opportunity to add "further polish to a few different elements of the game" and open the beta to more users than was originally planned. Gamers interested in opting in to the beta for Diablo III can visit Battle.net.
Diablo III is the first title in the series since 2001's Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expansion and will add a variety of new features, character classes, and a new auction house system designed as "a new way for the company to pull revenues from the game."

Anyone with a brain who follows this game knows they setup a team focused on porting for the PS3. Hence the delay..
You can pre-order Diablo 3. Actually, I think i did that earlier this summer. There was no collector edition at the time though, so I have to go back to Gamestop and switch it now. I just wonder if TorchLight 2 will come out before Diablo 3?
Even if I manage to go the next 5yrs with D3.. There'll be at least another 5 to go before I could ever dream of 'continuing the story'.. I leave this post for my 35+ yr old self :'(.. "Was it all worth the wait?? Time that you'll never get back?! Peace, dumbass.."
I agree with CFitzRun. The auction house would have happened whether Blizzard was running it or not. At least now Blizzard can control the exchanges rather than 3rd party hacks.
I honestly can't believe people are so upset at the auction house setup. I think you are ignoring the fact that now you are protected from getting screwed over, aren't breaking any policies and...oh yeah, you can make money from playing a video game. Is it so bad that they want a cut of the profit that they worked over 10 years to make? Imagine how much this game has cost them over the years just to develop.
@mouseattacks i also waited really long for this game since the first time i heard rumor about the released of Diablo 3 8 years ago, but Blizzard really made me regret waiting so long once they announced the need to be online feature and the auction system with real money... I never imagined that Blizzard would have done something like that and i still can't believe it. I think Activision must pull some strings behind the scene and if that's the case well my last hope for this game will be completly crushed...
yep torchlight 2 would of taken majority of the sales so blizz decided to push it back to early next year. hard to compete with a title that is both entertaining and has great game-play all at the reasonably low price of $20.00 (very tough to compete with that).
@sonicare Blizzard has never missed a launch date. They only said they were trying to release by the end of the year, but they never officially announced a date. When they finally do, they won't miss it.
Lol i Remember back in 2009 me and my friend talking about the release date, he was going to new zeland and said " i hope they release it in 2010 when i come back" i said i wouldnt be able to wait that long. Haha now they are just screwing with us.
Ah man this really isn't funny any more. Just give me a game full of bugs and get it done with. Been waiting for 10 years for this title. I'll live through a few patches at the start. It's not like there are any good alternatives out there.
I will still keep hope that Blizzcon will still drop Diablo 3 as a 2011 surprise holidy bomb. It won't happen, but a boy can dream.
@StJimmy15-so wat makes me think this is gonna suk is the bloody DRM which is gonna be a major coz of concern to many gamers.....n the visuals arn't gr8 either n from what we have seen it has started to look like Warcraft more than Diablo.......i hope bilzz will release a game which could be at least on par with previous diablo....this whole concept of we will release it when it is ready is getting on my nerves,if u ver a previous diablo fan u would understand how it is to wait 4 10 years.......
Do what you gotta do Blizzard. We've been waiting 10 years a few more months don't matter to me if that's what it takes. Besides it just means more time with Battlefield 3!
Blizzard miss a launch date?! That's unthinkable. What will you tell me next? That valve has delayed the launch of a game? lol
@harry_daniel200 GT5 and Duke? One is a PS3 exclusive racer and the other is a 13 year old PC FPS port. How do these even compare to a point-and-click RPG? Just because hype can end in failure doesn't mean every game WILL. On that note, how do you know Skyrim won't suck, since you're obviously just as excited for that as many people are for D3. (btw, I think your period key is stuck.)
Just so it isn't delayed for purely "balance" reasons, I am fine with that. I would deplore if they go through great lengths to balance this game like they have WoW. While I can't speak for all Diablo fans, I'd much rather have an unbalanced and enjoyable game rather than a dull, balanced game. Given the way the item system looks in its current state devoid of many of the fun modifiers that Diablo II had I'm starting to grimace already.
@StJimmy15.........thanks.........u obviously have a good knowledge of the language in question as u seem to.......bt sorry my frnd,i fear u dont kno much abt the game industry as i see both gt 5 n duke have been major disappointments..........n thanks for cancelling u r pre orders as u seem a confused person who asks the store guy which games to buy n which is the best racing game!...lol...../not scarcasm
I wanted to share this on FB but the only way i could is to like it. I don't like it. I wanted D3 this year
Really I understand polishing the game but Geesh its been a decade already. Luckily there are lots if great looking games coming this fall winter so ill be more then busy.
what i find most impressive is the confidence (borderline arrogance) that blizzard have in their games. granted they may be good ip's and all but they must really have balls if they think it's actually wise to pit diablo 3 against mass effect 3 in the same time frame. granted, also, that the game will probably have little to no bugs, but still i think that after 7 years of playing around they could at least stop turtling about and release the game for Christmas. At any rate it probably wouldn't make a difference cos i'll be busy with AC revelations at the time lol. I'll probably join the demon hunting next summer when i have the time
lol, blizzard is getting way to conservative in this time of year. Am i interested in D3, yeah but im not gonna get it in day one or may be from another source. But i see a lot of the people here are delusional/ or purely fan-boi. lol, i bet if blizzard put another skim that close another option, they all will be happy too. lol. sheeple at their best. :D
If you want to know exactly come out released Diablo 3...wait until 31 March 2012...i see in IGN...must be patient waiting this boom gamesss
umm... no atributte points when lvl up, no randomly generated maps, no skill choosing... straightfoward leves ( just look at that map).. is this actually diablo? come on...
Gameplay looks boring anyway. Been waiting for years for this to come out, and I think it is more than a day late and a dollar short. Try bashing zombie heads first person in a graphic game like Dead Island (brilliant and underrated), then watch developers kill "zombies" in D3. Watched the hour intro play into it and this game looked like it was from 2005. Like giving Ms. Pacman a machinegun and calling it MW3. We need a higher level of expectation I'm thinking.
Personally, I like the delay because real life won't currently tolerate me getting sucked into this game at this point in time. @CaptainKrunch10 Your post stopped being creditable when you said you were happy with Witcher 2.
At least it convinced me to start Diablo 2 LOD again. I'm at the begining of Act II and It's still soooo fun ! The objective was to focus out of D3 for a while and until now it's damn working.
Diablo 3 : Wings of the Paladin - 'early 2022' Diablo 3 : Heart of the Druid - 'early 2032' Diablo 3 : Legacy of the Assassin - 'early 2043' hell were still stuck in Diablo "3"...
You have to give us a better reason than that blizzard, how many years have you taken for this game? Why not say you like to disappoint? I am happy with Witcher 2 and could care less about this overrated crap that is bound to fail.
Very well then...based on the comments here I guess we should let Blizzard release a half @$$ed product that lacks polish and is not finished. Cry me a river people. You complain about other companies for lacking polish and selling out an unfinished product but here is Blizzard doing what they always do to give to their fan base what they want and now you complain?!? :? OK, it took 12 years. This isn't Gearbox or 3D realms people. This Blizzard. Considering that Acitvision took over them you should be thanking your lucky stars that Diablo has not gone the way of Call of Duty.
