Blizzard game director Jay Wilson assures fans that game is in "great shape" but stops short of saying launch plans announcement will be "soon."
After Diablo III's most recent delay two weeks ago, many have been left wondering just what is going on with Blizzard Entertainment's anticipated action role-playing game? Only good things, assures game director Jay Wilson, who took to Blizzard's forums to say that a release date for the title can be expected in the "near future."
"The latest full build we've been testing here in the office is in great shape," Wilson wrote in his letter to the community. "We get a lot of sympathy from the other teams because of the long hours of crunch our design team is putting in, but the secret is that playing through the game as we do final tuning, bug fixes, and optimizations is a real joy."
"We think you're going to love Diablo III when it's released, and speaking of release plans, you can seriously expect a launch-date announcement from us in the near future," he continued. "See, I didn't say 'soon,' so I'm not taunting you. You'll know as soon as I know for sure the exact date."
Diablo III will be the first release in the infernal action role-playing game franchise since 2001's Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Though Blizzard has yet to offer an official release date for the game, it has bypassed a number of targeted release windows, including the end of 2011 and the first part of 2012.
The game is currently scheduled for release during Activision Blizzard's April-June 2012 quarter. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Diablo III.
Blizzard is scared of the "2012 end of the world" rumors and are going to push back the realease date for as long as they are not sure that they won't die. Best explanation I could make up for all those delayings.
I heard GameSpot had keys as well.. I've been waiting for them to give them out. I hope its not a facebook thing since I don't use facebook :(
Take it easy, Blizzard! how much time do you need? 2, 3 years? thats ok! i do not want to ear anything more from this game until a REAL release date......
I wont take any rumoured release dates seriously until blizzard actually give us one. I think they are going to release it between April-July 2012 though unless something major needs fixing still. Shame I am not going to be playing it before my BDay March27th :(
Italian web site posted leaked release date for D3, its April 17th! So exited about that, but there is no official feedback on that, still lets have a hope :) http://www.mmorpgitalia.it/site/content.php?3417-Diablo-III-Fuori-il-17-Aprile!
As I posted previously ; Diablo III will be released between july 15 and august 15 2013.. OR july 20 2012 previously i said in 2009, that the game wont be released till 2014 i have been mistaken... wrong calculation led me to a such mistake... If blizzard officially anounced diablo in q3 2008 , (after they closed blizzard north i think in 2005) then another five/six years is the approximiate time (in "blizzard's time scale"- depends on what year they are in right now), to "POLISH" this installment... this is what is called :AN EPIC F-A-I-L-L-L !!! (with tripple "L")
With Guildwars 2 on the horizon I lost most of my interest in this one really. If they try to coincide launch dates with GW2 I think Blizzard will have an ugly surprise :)
Blizzard games are my pick-up-and-play games. When I see one, I pick it up and play it. That way I'm not distraught waiting decades for release date information.
To a game developement house "in the near future" could mean anywhere between 6 months to 18 months.
The truly sad thing is, as much as I want to complain and say I'm not gonna play Diablo 3, I'm gonna buy it on launch day just like all the rest of you! Even if you don't buy it on launch, people will be playing it for the next decade! Diablo 2 still has a huge player base and it's 11 years old.
blizzard is just attempting to exploit as much money as they can from us... i really hope diablo 3 is worth the wait with an intense gameplay, pretty awesome story and great graphics, id be really dissapointed if it turns to be a normal game with some improvements only and lack of content... I bet they will make World of Diablo and World of Starcraft in a near future also
darn i hate how they play with our feelings :( we want diablo 3 asap.... but lets admit it, it will be worth the wait ! :)
I hate Blizzard, it's like a 5th grade class is behind the PR. There isn't a single release date for they're next 3 games and it's kind of annoying. Even if they come out and say Diablo 3 is comin in June why couldn't they have told us that in the first place and treated us like adults
You would think a company that is famous for being 5-10 years behind technology wouldn't take so long to finish a product.
How come Blizzard can release WoW expansions but can't set a date for D3? Keep dangling that carrot Blizzard.
@human-after-all I think you overeact a bit but yeah , as a diablo 2 fanatic and beta tester i can say game ( at least first 13 lvls and till skeleton king ) isnt AAAWEEESOMMEEE or something like that like i thought it would.. But yeah its beta. Lets see final release. You never know
Blizzard, please define what is "near future". I want to get Diablo 3 within my lifetime, please at least do that.
Beta sucked, incredibly mediocre and failed the catch the charm or atmosphere of a diablo game. Going from gothic fantasy to garbage cell shaded was incredibly underwhelming.
I strongly suspect a July 2012 release for this game, mirroring when Starcraft 2 came out in 2010. It would be good to come out during the summer when there is no other competition during those months.
This would have been exciting news 3 years ago... now well not so much. It's taken way too long, my interest in the game is almost gone at this point.
It's taking too long to come out and the excitement is dying down drastically. I'd suggest they get it out soon or stop given false release expectations and just release it one day with maybe a 2-week notice.
As soon as it is released, all the gamers, and that include the negative ones, will get it. The members here who say they will not, will get it. Those stating that based on the forced internet connection they will boycot it, will also get it. I will get it, and pray it will be a 90%+ game.
Medias are being played by Activision like a violin. By the way, a message to gamespot admins, you have to change "Release: TBA 2012 (US)" to "Release: Soon (Everywhere)"
Why doesn't this surprise me. Blizzard will never learn or change obviously. If other developers took 10 years for every game to make, they would go bankrupt, this is just getting more and more pathetic.:D
The last time a game based on a great franchise was released "when it's done", it turned into Duke Nukem Forever. I'm focussing on other games anyway. Since the perpetual online connection requirement came about Diablo 3 has been a null-issue for me anyway.
"We always know a Blizzard game is almost ready when we have to ask members of the team to stop playing so they can get their work done", haha nice one.
How sad is it that the announcement of a release date coming soon is considered legitimate news? LOL
@deathstream "The people who made Diablo and Diablo 2 are long since gone from Blizzard, as is their vision for a dark, adult action fantasy RPG." It makes me sad...but you do have a point...
If anyone doesn't know by now, the Iron Lore team (Titan Quest) is making Grim Dawn right now, check it out. Also, as mentioned Path of Exile will be a F2P ARPG. They are legitimate competition for Blizzard if enough people know about them. Maybe Blizzard needs some competition to knock them down a peg.
