Capcom's upcoming action game to add "Vergil's Downfall" DLC after launch; makes Dante's twin brother playable in his own chapter.
DMC: Devil May Cry does not ship until next year, but Capcom has already announced the game's first expansion. The publisher today revealed "Vergil's Downfall," a new chapter to the game that has players controlling Dante's twin brother Vergil.
The "Vergil's Downfall" DLC will tell Vergil's backstory with regards to the main campaign. Additionally, it will add new enemies that Vergil can take on using unique moves, weapons, and combos. In all, Capcom says the content will span "hours."
"Vergil's Downfall" will launch sometime after DMC: Devil May Cry ships early next year and will cost $9 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Players who preorder the game at GameStop in the United States or EB Games in Canada can pick up the content free.
DMC: Devil May Cry will follow a redesigned version of Dante, envisioning a younger version of the gun-toting, sword-wielding demon slayer in the modern world. Ninja Theory has said it wants to give the series a fresh start, with a scythe and axe added to his standard arsenal. The game is due out on January 15 in North America and Europe for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version will follow.
I wish they was issue a vergil own story ..... Why dante ? Its a reboot everything can be possible now and many options are available.
i think that it was about time to make a dmc game, the sequel to this one even, featuring vergil as the main characcter just saing
I'm bought the HD Collection and looking forward to the Reboot. Yes new Dante and Virgil look Emu but who cares. If you love the DMC 1 and 3 than play those. Stop being little bitches and get over it. It's a Reboot not a direct sequel to the original games. Dante and Virgil were going look different. We knew this when DMC Reboot was announced and before any actual gameplay/trailers are shown. Everybody needs to STFU!!
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFat least have some decency and try to trick me into it, don't announce it before the F**king game is released!!!!A f**king trailer??? really??
Here's to hoping this game does well.....I'm pretty sure it'll get an 8. Ninja Theory games are good at exposition of their story elements and evoking some feeling from the character relations....and we play DMC because it's a fast-paced and difficult game....I'm now feeling torn about the future of this game. I also don't like the heavy use of the Unreal Engine....its way too hammy to be used on consoles anymore, all the texture dithering generally looks chunky like putty.
Umm isnt the name of this dlc a spoiler?
I mean we know what happened to him in the orignal games but since this is a reboot i was thinking this could have a different ending or something
Not really sure im able to post the link or not, but ill take the chance since it brings about a lot of good points. so this is for the crowed who feels that the fans are just B!tching about all the changes, and that all we cite are the non white hair and red coat, so do yourself a favor and actually take a look at the link, read it, look at the vids, and you will see just why soo many of us have issues with rendition of our beloved franchise. http://dickkickington.tumblr.com/post/31275837532/everything-thats-wrong-with-dmc-devil-may-cry
@MajahretDiviera I read it and am not buying the game I was going to but then I realized that it's not devil may cry and he's not Dante this game is really a dumbed down version of the original in comparison hd collection here I come.
@MajahretDiviera Dude, thanks for the link, it's a really good read and summarizes everything neatly.
Capcom, if you wanted to do something different with the franchise, why not give us a game that focuses purely on Vergil or a prequel where we get to play as The Legendary Dark Knight Sparda. these would have appeased the fans of the franchise over this rendition you are trying to pass off as a dmc game.
So... The gaming market states that a game should not cost more than 60 bucks... How do you work around that? Remove some of the game and release it seperately as DLC.... DmC is now officially 69 (*cough* 70) bucks.
Heck I'm surprised they didn't do that with Dante on DmC4
So sick of this gen. I do not expect good things next gen besides a few graphic upgrades it will be worst. They might sell us 20% of the disc at full price for $70 instead of the "normal" %40 we get now in days. Next gen already sucks.
I've appreciated Ninja Theory's take on games but they generally have no replay value because it all goes to dlc. Enslaved is the most recent example I can think of here, a perfectly fine game that does little more than walk you through its story and once is enough. So please please!~!!!! make this DMC as packed with gaming as the first entry....if the replay-value stops on 3 difficulty settings, with as little content as I've come to expect from NT, than this game will be a play it once and forget it affair. Hoping against that....but bracing for it.
I would just like to say...fuck off, Ninja Theory. And then fuck you, Capcom for approving their turd all over Devil May Cry's face.
@CapnXtraObvious Love the Keyboard RAGE. Fact is, You don't have to buy it. Regardless, they'll still make their MILLIONS. Go treat yourself to a "Stoh-Lo-Belly-Sun-Dehh".
Don't worry the Pain's only Temporary. But the Memory's lasting.
@advanracer @shatner78 @CapnXtraObvious These "angry gamers" put the DMC name where it is.. if anyone had a say in what goes on with the series is the people who made it possible for Devil may cry to have existed for 4 games long.. only to be punch in the face and spit at by Capcom so they can bring in some sort of new newb crowd who never gave a rats @ss about Dante in the first place or combo games. as the real Dante himself says "Do your homework kid". I expect megaman to look like @ss if crapcom ever makes a game.
Let me guess... it will cost loads and loads of money! I feel robbed. Vergil was a treat of a character in DMC3 and appeared in UMvC3 and now he's so popular, he's a DLC which I'm guessing is going to cost money! Capcom has really done it!
@91210user The DLC is planned for release at $8.99 in January. It comes free with a pre-order of DMC from Gamestop (when it gets released that is)
oh wow. now they release dlc's trailers months before the game itself. the world is changing too fast for me.
jeez... whatever happened to "unlocking more content by actually playing the game", not this pre-order bonus/day-one dlc crap.
@adrian_cortez94 Yeah I miss the day when you had to unlock hidden content, nowadays it seem a game wouldn't be release unless there's another dollar you had to spent just to get stuff that should had already being on the disc.
Wow you guys are dumb It's not DAY1 DLC If you pre-order the game you get redeemable codes when the DLC becomes available AFTER the the initial games release what aren't you ppl understanding about that why are so many of confusing yourselves and jumpin the gun I mean sheesh learn to pay attention b4 makin idiot comments lol SMDH
@Giganticguyver4 There's a trailer for this content, the content is already complete. SMDH that stupid people; such as yourself, don't see that this is worse than day 1 DLC.!
Pre-order and the DLC is FREE... I think alot of you are overlooking that little tid-bit of information. It's Capcom, are you guys really surprised that they release day-1 DLC ? Despite all the bitching and moaning, this game will turn out to be good,,,,, mark my worrrdddssss!!!
@chavo845 Either the game will turn out to be good (not holding my breath), or they are offering free DLC to people who preorder because they know once people find out how much it sucks, sales will plummet.
Capcom logic: Screw up the franchise and pretend it's a reboot, and then announce DLC that could've easily been included in the game. Looks like Capcom's DLC business practices have changed.
I'm surprised Capcom itself isn't portrayed as one of the "Modern Demon Evil Organizations" in the game. Would be funny if someone modded the PC version of the game and put Capcom in there.
And looks like Vergil is just as fugly as his brother in this game.
@mav_destroyer Please as soon as the game comes out for PC PLEASE PLEASE remind PC moders about your idea I would love to see it happen.
@mav_destroyer They were well aware of what changing Dante would do, do you honestly think these companies got so rich by being idiotic? http://www.ign.com/articles/2010/10/20/capcom-dante-needed-to-be-completely-different
@Nophoria88 Well these companies can certainly lose their fans and revenue by making idiotic changes like these. They can start out good but there's not much point if they go and shoot themselves in the foot would it?
@Nophoria88 Thank you.
@mav_destroyer I apologize for coming off as mean and ill mannered if that's what you're implying, my point is that it's not a new IP.
@Nophoria88 Nice try. My "way of thinking" is my opinion, but I do apologize for being rude. Next time someone calls my opinion ignorant I'll sit there quietly and wag my tail, I can't have anyone thinking that I'm being rude now can I?
Incidentally my "way of thinking" was shared by some very talented Capcom staff who were tired of seeing their franchises being milked by the company instead of creating new IPs and as a result quit and created their own companies.
But since your such a nice, well mannered person with flawless opinions perhaps you can educate me on what is so ignorant about my way of thinking?
Ha, I was saying calling a new direction in DmC a new IP ignorant, and you just flat out say everything I think is ignorant. I didn't call YOU ignorant I called that way of thinking of it being a new IP ignorant, not all your opinions or anyone elses for that matter. Rude.
"The only thing in common with this game and previous games is the game's title and the characters' names." Prime example, it has action combo oriented combat, platforming and puzzles, demons, dantes cocky attitude (things the series are known for, obvious change to appearances are obvious). The only thing that is remotely different to me is the aesthetics of the game.
Good day as well.
@Nophoria88 Right back at ya, seems you already made up your mind and anyone else's opinions are ignorant to you.
There's a difference between creative progression, reboots and disfiguring a franchise beyond recognition. The only thing in common with this game and previous games is the game's title and the characters' names.
If a company wants to appeal to people then it should appeal to its already acquired fans while trying to draw in new ones. And If fan reactions don't matter to a company anymore then maybe it should stop and change to a different industry.
But I guess this is all ignorant and illogical so who cares, right? Good day to you.
@mav_destroyer Well I was with you until you called it a new IP. That is just ignorant man, this was a creative progression from DmC 4. It is still action, still platforming and puzzles, they wanted to focus on creativity in level design to appeal to people, like any business they want sells, but to not call this DMC...
This is why I don't usually comment, everyone's mind is already made up, even though the behind the scene reasons be not present in their argument, just fan reactions.
@Nophoria88 True, this is Capcom's game and they can do whatever they want with it. I also hope they also know who to blame when it flops.
I don't consider this a reboot, this is a complete overhaul and should've been a new IP, they just decided to stick the DMC name on it to avoid the risks that come with new IPs, it's not the first time they've done this. Why do you think a lot of their best developers/designers quit the company?
There are many problems with this game beyond simple 'hair color'. Regardless of how the game ends the damage has already been done.
@mav_destroyer This might be everyones beloved franchise, but it is their franchise/business, the game is going to amazing regardless of his white hair and red coat which still pop up during angel combos. They could call it quits and not make anymore games for it or they can do it the way they feel fit.
And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Dante is back to his white hair/red coat by the end of the game, in which case all the arguing is pointless, it's might be considered a reboot but its also an origin story.
@Nophoria88 Flipping off the original fanbase is never a wise business strategy and it will come back to bite them sooner or later. They've been doing it to a lot of their old established fanbases now (Resident Evil, Megaman, Street Fighter and now DMC).
You and any new fans of the series might be happy now, but in the future when they turn around and change your favorite games again just to 'draw in new fans' you won't be so happy.
@mav_destroyer In exchange to the few fans who don't actually buy the new DmC, they gain a lot of spotlight and that means more coverage = new fans such as myself. The new style has grown on me so much that I'm going back to pick up the old games before playing this one. I've always been interested in DmC but with this new update it really has me on board, this has no doubt happened to a countless amount of other people as well. Not my idea of foot shooting since this is what they were aiming for in the first place.
