1 Like Somebody find Patrice and get some answers! The reason I was anticipating THQ Montreal's games was because of him. Dude did outstanding work on Assassin's Creed 2. I'm looking forward to seeing what else he can do.
Desilets may not return to Ubisoft

"Too soon to say for certain" if acclaimed Assassin's Creed designer will stay on board, according to Ubisoft representative.
Assassin's Creed designer Patrice Desilets, who heads up what is now formerly THQ Montreal, may not stay on board following Ubisoft's wholesale purchase of the company yesterday. A Ubisoft representative told Polygon that Desilets' fate has not yet been determined.
"It's too soon to say for certain, but we are very excited about THQ Montreal becoming part of Ubisoft," the company said. "In the coming weeks we'll be looking at how to offer an organizational structure that provides continuity for the creative teams involved. Unannounced projects from THQ Montreal are included as part of the acquisition."
These games, according to bankruptcy documents, are 1666 and Underdog. Firm details on these projects have not yet come to light, though 1666 is expected to sell as many of 4 million copies.
In addition to purchasing THQ Montreal for $2.5 million, Ubisoft snapped up South Park: The Stick of Truth yesterday during the THQ auction for $3.2 million.

1 Like Ubisoft bought South Park? Didn't expect that. Wouldn't have thought it was their sort of property.
Interesting article. The title makes you think it's about Desilets, but then he's not mentioned once after the first paragraph.
2 Like I feel sorry for him. He leaves Ubisoft for THQ montreal and now the studio is owned by Ubisoft lol.
He's too busy rolling around and around in his ill-gotten gains and milking those putrid laurels for being the driving force behind the deplorable project...He is secretly harboring ambitions to take over the gaming industry with his 'brilliance' and short of that he's going to take up the tools of the assassin and make his dreams come true the old fashioned way...
THQ Montreal was a really good gaming studio. The AC series sits proudly in my gaming library and I hope the series continues under the reigns of Ubisoft. It seems that the nature of most developing companies come and go which for some is good and bad. But it seems that most of these developing gurus find another job and continue to contribute to the gaming world. Really wish Patrice good luck and know we will see something from him again.
2 Like @FlashCharge AC is done by Ubisoft. The former AC designer left Ubisoft for THQ Montreal and now Ubisoft own them so he would be going back to the company he left. That is what the story is about. It can be confusing but yea, AC is staying where it always has been.
Patrice should contact Bethesda and make a studio on Montreal. With Patrice's innovation and creativity and Bethesda's willingness to fund new and risky IPs as well as their respect for their franchises, they would make a great team.
1 Like @BossPerson But thats not the whole point. If he leaves he loses all the work and time he has put into 1666, which was his baby project. I think they should just work it out and he stays with Ubi, then he wont lose his games.
There was almost no information in this article regarding the headline. The news in the last paragraph had nothing to do with the 'news'... At least the title wasn't a question.
Does Ubisoft's acquisition of 'The Stick of Truth' mean that it's going to have U-Play in it? If so, more power to South Park Studios in getting the rights back!

4 Like @Deadly_Nemesis No kidding me. AC3 was complete horsecrap. Connor was boring as hell, and they removed armor and tombs from the game. The trade system was ridiculously complicated. And yes, the bugs were god awful.
@emperiox Hunting animals was way too boring. They should have removed the quick-time events, at least for the animals. Homestead missions were really boring. The optional objectives were sometimes annoying, like when you can't even touch people during that last mission. The fast travel tunnels were so tedious. And the ending didn't even make sense.
@robbiejones I love Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed 2 . But Assassin's Creed 3 was just too easy and kinda boring. There was no real point for getting 100% synced. I wonder if they're going to stick with Connor in the next Assassin's Creed or do something else entirely. I heard Brazil is the next possible location.
@96augment @emperiox also there was no point in hunting and selling etc...ac3 felt like differnt teams done there own thing like the hunting and homestead missions etc but failed to incorporate it together. felt kinda rushed and lame...ac3 i was looking forward to since they lunched first trailer and what not. But yeh i have no interest in it and i believe they wont beat ac brotherhood.
@Deadly_Nemesis AC III was fun enough (I only saw bugs with animals), and if you want a buggy game try AC Liberation on PS Vita. Terrible game.

You have to read the Polygon article to actually get details. This is a legal issue and not an issue of him just not wanting to work for them or something.
So happy to hear South Park is safe. Being a fan from the very first episode more than 10 years ago, it would of been sad to not see just one game which was a complete 'rip' of the TV show and its world.
As for these new games, I'll be keeping an eye and ear out for them. Maybe E3 announcements?

I'm glad that the game is still coming out and I'm sure the core gameplay mechanics are still intact but Ubisoft could still screw it up. Maybe some unnecessary censorship or content gets cut out or change the way Canadians look in the game :P
The game was pretty much ready to be shipped and THQ was probably more willing to let things slide than Ubisoft. We all know how South Park likes to push the boundaries on various topics.
