Atlus keeping multiplayer component of From Software's brutal action RPG alive beyond next month's release of Dark Souls.
The days grow few until Namco Bandai releases From Software's Dark Souls for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but Atlus isn't ready to put down that title's spiritual predecessor. Today, the publisher confirmed that it will continue to support Demon's Souls' online functionality into 2012.
GameSpot's 2009 Game of the Year, Demon's Souls drew wide acclaim for its innovative online functionality. On a cooperative level, these features allow gamers to leave hints and warnings of things to come, as well as replay death sequences and team up with one another. Players could also invade one another's single-player games to add a new level of threat to the already-dangerous environments.
Set in the medieval kingdom of Boletaria, Demon's Souls calls upon gamers to cleanse the land of a demonic scourge unwittingly unleashed by the king in a misguided grab for power. Players will also be able to customize character skills and equipment to the task, relying on melee, projectile, and magic attacks to send the cursed creatures back from whence they came.

@Darnasian: I believe that is incorrect. The reason (as far as I know) is because From Software wanted the next game to be accessible to a wider audience. Since Sony owns the rights to "Demon's Souls" the game is Dark Souls so that it could be published for Xbox360.
To any gamer who has yet to play Demon's Souls: Do yourself a favor and play it before the servers go down! This is a fantastic game further bettered by its unique and exhilarating online features! You don't want to miss the chance to experience it!
Crescent Uchigatana + Firestorm + Lava Bow can get you through anything in Demons Souls. Lets see the sucessor. And yes, this is easily one of the best rpgs of this generation.
@aleks_siegfried Demon's Souls was published by Atlus in North America and by Namco/Bandai in Europe. Namco/Bandai also released a Limited Edition of the game the Black Phantom Edition with the Official Game Guide and a different cover! On the cover it's the same knight but on a red color and with a subtitle Black Phantom Edition. The Black Phantom Edition it's almost the same with the Deluxe Edition in North America but the Deluxe Edition had some problems with the physical content and Atlus had to repair this. I don't know maybe From Software taught Namco are more appropriate or have more money to publish Dark Souls since the North American Deluxe Version had some problems. Anyway Dark Souls I think it's multi-platform because SONY stopped supporting the studio. But this is just a guess!

What's the matter with Namco/Bandai ? Demon Souls is from Atlus and Dark Souls from Namco ?
So glad I have the European (awesome edition with guide book and art book) copy on the game. Nacmo has lots and lots of money.
That's good of them, gives us all one last chance to revisit the last game. I never did finish it unfortunatly, I spent most of the time grinding and trying to find what character build worked for my playing style- I usually ending up playing as a Wanderer. Sure, their armour wasn't great, but they were a lot faster on their feet than other classes were.
Best action RPG I've played this generation. I loved it so much I made sure to get the platinum trophy, and still kept playing after that.
I really should play this game once more through before trying "Dark Souls." It'll always be one of my favorite games ever, but I fear once "Dark Souls" is out... I'll be lost in that world for a long, long time.
Demon's Soul SP is exhilirating on it's own, but what truly makes it amazing is it's unique use of MP and connecting players. I mean, invading another person's Gameworld, and be able to call others to your aid to fight bosses OR the Black Phantom (player) invading your world??! Awesome! I mean, a Boss in the game is actually a player! You can be a Boss!! EPIC!.
i hope i will be able to finish demon's souls cuase i got it a week ago and now there another great game like this but i hope the game is gonna be less hard
Super happy about this. I just recently got Demon's Souls and I freaking love it. Even though it would still be a great game offline, it would lose that which makes it unique. I strongly encourage anyone who hasn't played this yet to jump on it while the online features are still available. half.com has it pretty cheap so do yourself a favor and play this game!
Thats cool that theyre keeping them on that long. I probably wont need em seeing as Im planning on the next few hundred hours worth of gaming time to be on Dark Souls! :)
The first time I beat this game I relied on co-op. Now I know each level by memory and can beat it alone with no issue, maybe with trouble in some bosses, but the game is hard because you don't know a dragon is going to one hit kill you, but once you know all the secrets and puzzles, the game is too easy :)
Really aprecciate it, thanks. I always have to coop with someone to revive. It's way funnier to do that than use a stone of ephem. eyes.
this is one of my favorite games of all time.. and im glad its not goin anywhere for a while. and yeah, i agree that its not as hard as most people think; it was just refreshing to play a game that doesnt hold your hand as much
this game was overrated. Its a good game but also kinda lame because of the so-called 'difficulty'. Allowing mobs or traps to one-shot you and having to redo the entire level is artificial difficulty.
I never got through completing it. I didn't really know what I was doing and pumped all of my souls into useless traits and skills. I'll give it another go one day!
Haven't played online yet, so it's good to know I still can. Not going to matter too much since you can beat the game without any online interference.
I jsut hope that they remove the light and dark world tendency. That sucked to have to pay attention to that and still enjoy dying all the time.
@mjc0961 He's right. too many gankers with PvP gear jumping into games, the second they start losing they leave. I got sick of crawling through black water while suffering poison or plague with a black phantom sitting on an island pegging me with arrows while I avoid a giant bird monster.
Well Should finally get around to playing this game before the end of 2011. Good for them to keep the on-line servers open. If people still play on-line.
Ah good, I still have some time to put into that game. But with all the amazing gaming out or soon to be out, I don't know where I'll find the time! The stresses of the modern gamer. :(
Great, it's good to see that it'll stay around for more, it deserves it! Some people are still trying to finish it, or get the most out of it, in preparation for Dark Souls.
As a "PS3 Classic" game that is still in print the have to keep the servers open. Online is critical to the gameplay for change world tendency. They cannot continue to sell new copies of this game if they were to take the servers down.
This is heart-warming. Now I just have to get the courage back up to play the game, whenever I look at the case it's judging me, it knows I'm scared.
I didn't have the PS3 back then so I missed this one. But not this time, Dark Souls will be mine!!!
I was praying that they wouldn't close the servers down yet, as I am planning on getting Demon's Souls ASAP (probably this weekend) before I buy Dark Souls.

Glad to hear it,Im sure a lot of ppl are still enjoying it. I completed the game myself though,with no help from other ppl(for me a true SP experience is when I do it all by myself),and its one of the best games I played in the last 5 years.The challenge,the athmosphere,the gameplay,everything is awesome.Im not sure if I will get to play Dark Souls though,my PS3 was stolen lately,but Im tempted to buy a new one just for that game(and for MGS HD collection,I want to try Peace Walker).
@Samox I totally agree , most of the bosses were quite easy and I beat them from the first try , but there are two very hard bosses who made me rage quit the game , I won't spoil it for the poeple who didn't play the game yet but the ones who played it know very well which bosses I mean.
Although the game is 2 years old but it still has community and people are still playing it, that is the European server at least.
@slowdrum13 I know right? Why can't they just use the same servers for both games (you know use the same servers for Dark Souls as the one that's currently being used for Demon's Souls).
i beat the crap out of demon souls.... only and only because i figured out the game n what weapons to use n upgrade.... not to brag but i beat the game 7 times :P AND ILL DO THE SAME WITH DARK SOULS !!!!
Honestly didn't think Demon's Souls was as hard as everyone said it was, still an awesome game though! I have Dark Souls pre-ordered for 360 and cannot wait to play it.
