From Software's highly acclaimed dungeon crawler picks up $30 price tag after picking up rights to PS3 promotional packaging.
Demon's Souls provided a financial windfall for its North American publishing partner Atlus, which reported in March that the game had sold 250,000 units. Nearly a year after its release, Demon's Souls may soon be getting a bit more wind in its sails, as Atlus said today that the game has been named to the PlayStation 3's Greatest Hits line, bringing with it a new $29.99 price tag.
Developed by From Software, Demon's Souls takes place in the bleak kingdom of Boletaria. In addition to its steep difficulty, Demon's Souls gained notoriety for innovative online features that allowed users to journey into each other's world to lend a hand or slaughter each other. The game received substantial critical praise and went on to win GameSpot's Game of the Year Award in 2009.
With Sony handling the game's Japan release and Atlus stepping in for North America, Namco Bandai delivered the game to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Pacific Asia this year.

i never rated a game a 10 before up until i finished this game. Its an epic. perfect, captivating, and very time consuming, but satisfying in an extraordinary way. no other game can live up to this RPG. If ur an RPG fan u cant go wrong buying this game used or new.

@Muisee They never said that it wouldn't. Predictions that it would go offline in March 2011 are speculative and don't have much basis.
Top RPG on the PS3. Super challenging and beautiful graphics/gameplay. Nothing better than a phantom invading your world tokill you or help you kill a big boss. lost my data when my original launch 60gb unit ylod a few months back. I was close to the end to. This is giving me the desire to pick it back up and work my way through again.

I'm sorry but the game was too hard. I ended up being frustrated most of the time I was playing it. At the end of the day we play a game to be entertained, and when I die five times and they spawn you at the beginning of the area every time, it cuts down the enjoyment factor quite a bit... I like what they did, but it was close to unplayable for me.
was so proud when i finished it although they removed some of the exploits to get to max level. there is no way i would play it that long to get to max level naturally, thats insane
I agree, a phenomenally made game, with a difficulty you'd be proud to say you beat...the one downside is the lack of large changes from one playthrough to another. And the lack of the sixth archstone. I would've liked to have played it! And we will need a sequel, either literal or spiritual, something with just as much difficulty and more backstabbing!
Deserves much better sales than 250,000. Hope this boosts sales to help fund 'Project Dark' :)

@OaklandRaiderz A message went out from Atlus a couple weeks ago stating they were extending online service through March of 2011, so we have a few more months...
Demon Souls does deserve this title. I am late to the game I know but I started it and it is a challenge. A good challenge, a game that has no cheap deaths, but it is hard at the same time. Its a brilliant immersive and challenging game. Great atmosphere and everything about it is just awesome.
This is a biased opinion as im a big fan of medieval dungeon crawls. IMO though i dont think i've had this much fun in a dungeon crawl since my first time in diablo1. Not that demon souls reinvents the genre or anything, but something about the art, the vibe, the element of fear; Everything was just so spot on, i dont think i've played a better game in many years. I bought demons souls when it released a year or so ago, and have since beat it several times, tried several character paths and still find myself going back from time to time just cause it's such a great game once one gets used to the pacing and controls. I highly highly recommend at least trying this out and not giving up after the first few frustrating deaths. It really is a great game.
The second dimension is too creepy I was checking out some cells when some weird mofo 1 shotted me from a distance. Havent playedthe game since lol
Now I see why its sales numbers skyrocketed on Amazon. Haven't played this game but have heard good things. Might have to check this out ASAP.
@ simmeon1 but for 30 pounds you could have got the black phantom edition. the platinum one will be the standard edition.
if it only wasnt ps3 exclusive....hell,we cant give money to have pc,360 and ps3 at same time....What the hell
too bad it just got releeased in europe at a price of 30 POUNDS, not dolloars, so we're screwed. Imma definetly wait for the platinum edition, which i KNOW will come
Heard nothing but amazing reviews about this game but for some reason i still haven't bought it! Must try and get a copy this weekend XD
Getting 100% on this game was perhaps the most rewarding thing I've done in gaming. There is so much to do in Demon's Souls - so many hidden weapons, items, hidden bosses, PvP battles. I will never forget me and a mate doing a co-op run through one level when we got invaded (another player enters your game trying to kill you). Because the invader glowed red and fought with a pole against 2 of us whilst we balanced atop a small platform - It was uncannily similar to the Darth Maul fight...epic.
@ JackHoleFace00 If you'll get Demon's Souls, Red Dead Redemption will seem to be bland and boring as hell.
If any of you fools haven't got Demon's Souls AND if you like good RPG games THEN RUN FAST TO GET IT - there will not be any better RPG on PS3 for a while
Deserved....... In the top 5 best games on the PS3. Those worried about the difficulty, Yes it is difficult to begin with but I think that is because its unlike any other game. Most games you can eventually beat by running in and quickly attacking. You have to think before you make your move and be prepared with the correct kit for the battle. As someone else said, try before you buy but be sure to complete the first level before you make a judgement. I hated the game until that point and then all of sudden it clicks. Excellent
Great game shame it took over a year for it to be released in Europe although we did get the special edition as a standard
oh sweet. I'll have to pick this up as soon as I get tired of Red Dead Redemption. And I was gonna pick up Borderlands. Too many good games!
Good im glad i waited cuz i really wanna play this game. I havent played anything that wuz considered hard since Modern Warfare 2 on veteren (& that wuz by far the easiest COD game out of all of them). So not including that i have 2 say the hardest game that i played in the last 5 years is probably Call of Duty: World at War on veteren (imo thats the hardest COD on the hardest setting). I could just go back & play my old NES or SNES games if i wanted something hard play but i wanna try Demon's Souls (we all know some of those older games were ridiculously hard).
