I own a Kinect and I am stoked about the patches... Maybe they will add support to more games as such..
Rap-themed karaoke title now lets users record videos using Microsoft's motion-sensing camera; stand-alone MSRP now $40.
Konami's Def Jam Rapstar launched in early October sandwiched between two music-themed industry heavyweights Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3. The rap-themed music entry won decent critical praise, and volleys of new songs have been made available for the title since launch. Now, two new updates have arrived for the game.
Konami sent word today that a patch is now live for the Xbox 360 version of the title that brings Kinect support. Using the tech's camera, gamers will be able to record videos of themselves and upload them to the community.
The other bit of news Konami dropped today was that Def Jam Rapstar's new MSRP has dropped to $40 for the stand-alone product (Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). It appears as if the $70 bundled controller version of the title would also see a price drop. Amazon and GameStop are currently selling the microphone-bundled versions at $50.

@chilly-chill Nothing is wrong with Netflix, i'm just waiting for the Kinect patch. Kinect use was talked about before launch, but at launch it wasn't live yet. If it works anywhere close to as great as Last.fm and ESPN, I can wait. Those work great.
I won't be picking up the title, but I like hearing about patches such as this one. Anything that gives the Kinect (and Move for that matter) more traction will be good for those of us who bought it at launch. Now give me a patch on Netflix! As an aside, the post-game videos after each Kinect Sports match can be hilarious, so these vids could be (unintentionally) funny, too.
If you gave one of these modern rappers the task of writing a song, that cannot contain the words, boy, girl, police, b***h or n***a. The song would be Instrumental.
Are you trying to say that rap hasn't created or at least been involved in some fashion in violence? Heck, you can't show a movie about rap and/or rappers without thugs wanting to shoot people.
@zzamaro, You're misquoting me. Of course I'd be hypocritical if I actually said what you claim I said. Fortunately, I neither said I'm not buying the Move, nor did I say that the Move is bad because it has patched games. So, no, I'm not blind. Nor am I hypocritical. Also, the fact that you're actively looking for my posts means that you are taking this stuff way too seriously. They're just videogames. When someone says something positive about a stupid consumer product you don't like, you're not obligated to respond. It's not life and death.
@inferno394 I totally agree. The thing that is ridiculous about rap now a days is that pretty much every song has a the same 4 words in its lyrics: Money, Ho's, stripers, bentley.
I'm always happy to see more third-party support for Kinect. It's interesting the support came in the form of a patch. I guess patches that enable Kinect compatibility can be practical.
Does it include "beef mode" which leads to violence like shootings and drive-bys? Video games do have to keep raising the bar on realism.
Great way to boost sales. Would have been even better if they did it a week before Xmas, so people buying gifts would know.
@mightEone Yes. See KRS-ONE, Gangstar, and Immortal Technique if ya want to talk about hip hop :) @Flint247 All music is repetitive by its very nature (even a band like Rush), but point taken.
so how does this work then? Does it just film your movements and super impose them over a music video style back ground or does it take in the back ground too? Interesting idea, nice to see games taking advantage of the kinect
@blackace, your right. ms should spend some money if they have to. they should really push for letting us put our videos on facebook and youtube. it would be fun for us and help them sell alot more games
There's a difference between Rap and Hip Hop. Hip Hop tells stories and is something people can relate too. Think of like Slick Rick's Children Story or The Humpty Dance. Those are fun Hip Hop songs that many people like. Rap on the other hand is just a bunch of egotistical dudes with too much money that talk about money and hoes all the time.
@petemig thanx for thumbing down my comment, like kat williams says "i need haters like you" :) you misread my comment- fake "thugs", auto tune, dancing idiots that think they can rap when they should be brittney spears back up dancers and talentless "artist" who don't write their own rhymes and white kids who buy into an "image" because they lack the self esteem/confidence to be themselves and want to shock their parents at the same time, thats what ruined hip hop. and this is just giving more talentless fools the idea that they could rap. the mainstream has killed hip hop, and i wouldn't assume that you get that judging by your dislike of "ghetto trash". again just so you get it, kinect didn't ruin it, but this game along with what the article discusses is only helping dig a deeper grave. hip hop has been a real art form for 30 years, but somebody with a ben stiller pic on their gs profile probably didn't know that. Run and tell that, homeboy.
when will it have everyone's most anticipated song... "Bed Intruder"? //hide yo' kids. hide yo' wife.
@oneligas all i can say is its going to be really funny seeing nerdy white guys like me rapping with kinect ****************************************************** Where can I see these videos? I need a good laugh. M$ should allow Kinect to upload the videos to YouTube and Facebook. That would be cool.
@petemig you just described Ben Stiller lol. But i still like him and hip hop so whatever. dont mind me continue to act like a music snob
@ Shaun: This is what's ruining hip-hop? HAHAHAHAHAH! You blame Kinect for ruining and industry filled with fake, loser, uneducated, talentless, narcissistic, washed up, un-original, studio produced ghetto trash? It is Kinect's fault hip-hop sucks? Too funny man...too funny.
just when everybody in the industry that thought they could rap gets a record deal, now another industry makes it so everybody without a deal that thinks they can rap can look like an idiot doing it. this is what is ruining hip hop, along with auto tune. eff def jam.
