Dead Space 3 US sales hit 605,000

NPD data reveals first-month sales for Visceral's action shooter; Crysis 3 hits 260,000 after launching late in the month.
Dead Space 3, which launched February 4, sold 605,000 units in the United States during February, according to NPD data provided to GameSpot today. The action horror title was the best-selling game in the US during the month, knocking Call of Duty: Black Ops II from the top spot for the first time since launch.
In addition, NPD data reveals Crysis 3 sold 260,000 units in the US during the month. Notably, Crysis 3 launched February 19, meaning it reached that sales figure in 12 days. The NPD's February reporting period was February 2 to March 3, 2013.
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli previously remarked that Crysis 3 is "so far, our masterpiece." He claimed the game is technically and creatively superior to past entries, but said the project took a critical hit compared to past entries due to gamer "fatigue," among other things.

I wish I had not wasted $60 on it. its an average game at best and those who gave it 10, well are quite frankly, retards and don't know anything about what makes games good!
I was going to buy DS3, but then I was put off by EA's "everyone loves microtransactions" comment. Then I built a new computer and was going to get Crysis 3, but found out it's not out on Steam like 1 and 2 are, it's Origin only at the moment.
I'll seriously buy Crysis 3 if they release it on Steam later, but I won't be putting Origin on this computer even with a gun to my head.
i never understood why crysis is such a big franchise on paper but the sales dont reflect that and i think the problem with Crysis is that its more about looks than functionality, i tried playing Crysis 2 over the weekend and it was off to a slow start so i tossed it aside for something else and because of that i wont be getting Crysis 3 anytime soon
Both of those sales numbers are pretty disappointing considering what the budget for those games is. I'd be surprised if crysis 3 even broke even. Dead space 3 maybe will hit 2 million over its entire lifespan if its lucky and heavily discounted at retail. just for comparison, dead space 1 sold about 500,000 in the first month. EA claimed that dead space 2 doubled that so it must have been about 1,000,000. Considering this, its pretty easy to conclude that DS3 is not living up to expectations especially if that 5 million target is to be believed.
But lets be honest here, EA pretty much deserves what it gets at this point. Crysis 3 is mediocre, short and half assed IMO, especially when compared to crysis 1 and even 2. DS3 feels like a different game than its predecessors, not surprising that a lot of people on board for DS2 felt a bit alienated.
@ZRavN The best part is that when DS3 fails to hit projections, it won't be EA's fault, it will be because of "gamer fatigue"
cant believe the game sold that well, i didnt think it was THAT good. i still think the first one is the best in the series, the co-op feature in ds3 doesnt make it a blockbuster although it does help.
What the hell does gamer fatigue mean? If it means tired of EA's bullshit, then yea. Crysis 2 was great, didn't play the multiplayer, but Crysis 3 seems crap to me. The multi-player is glitchy, buggy and sometimes broken. There's a lot of pop up in the graphical department, like graphics aren't just there, they seem to take longer to load in both single player and multi-player. The feeling of one has returned but now we get a shorter game than any of the previous entires. For $60? Yea, pass. I've been telling my friends who like Crysis to wait til it's under $30, just not worth it at the price I paid for it
@whiteranger23 Agreed, I was not a huge fan of C3. I liked C2 myself and the games are pretty similar, but C3 was dumber, shorter and glitchier. Kind of sad to see a series I once really loved go out like that in such a mediocre way.
@ZRavN @whiteranger23 I noticed multi-player was glitched as fuck. I'm watching kill replays and I saw someone with a feline, holding the gun as they were running at me, and the gun was being held next tto heir chest. They were firing at the wall and I died, and I am not making this up. My 10 year old son sat right next to me and saw it too. People are shooting in the air next to people's heads and still getting kills
I hate that the game is shorter, the levels feel longer, but that's only cause there are so many pick ups. There's barely any multi level like there was in 2. I do like the story but then again I am a big fan of Prophet. Just doesn't seem plausible to me that Cell would have captured him, or Psycho. And well we all know how Crytek and EA feel about single player games so it's no wonder the game is so short.
I really wish I had not pre ordered the game, I coulda gotten Gears of War Judgement and been a lot happier but we all know GameStop doesn't take returns
@huerito323 @whiteranger23 It took me a while to notice it but it's like playing Rage, it's like watching it be developed right in front of your eyes. Yesterday I got to watch the grass in Safeties Off start out as a blurb and then grow right in front of my eyes

EA as a publisher managed to take Crysis away from its open-ended/kinda open world gameplay roots and made it just a linear shooter like anything else. Curiously, it was FarCry 3 that actually went back to the original Crysis roots (which were based on the success of the first FarCry in 2004). The irony is not lost on anyone. Except for Cevat Yerli. He's in denial for some reason.

This whole slow sales for march is Bullshit! It's an EA game and that's why it's selling like crap! After the Sim City Debacle, EA's sales will only continue to dwindle! Accounting for all sales in MArch due to 1 shitty EA game is a load of cra[ and the people aren't buying it! I just spent $150 on STeam and GOG this month for games! EA MY ASS!
Wow. I would have canned DS too if it sold no where near the expectations (which were ridiculous to begin with). Other than that, I loved DS3.
1 Like Still glad that DS3 was met with deserving praise and numbers. Hey people, make a Force Gun with a grenade launcher as alternate= the ye olde DS1 force gun, but with more powerful grenades (safety recommended!). It's amazing.
@vaillant085 no you need the shut the fuck up! lol jk. I understand your point, but that convention doesn't work very well in characters in 3rd person perspective. I sure wish he talked less giving those dumb gameplay advices like "use the fires, they'll be warm".
1 Like @santinegrete @vaillant085 compare the dialogue in ds1 to ds3 the immersion is better in ds1 because he hardly says anything. they need to keep dialogue at the bare minimum. i want thick atmosphere back
@jspillen @vaillant085 @santinegrete Yeah, he was a silent protagonist in part 1. I thought his character was pretty well written in part 2, and in part 3 he was just an errand boy. He had some great unintentionally goofy lines though. "FUCKING THING!"

6 Like @queuing_for_PS4 By your own figures, this is not poor. It's for the month of February, and in the US alone -- we can compare later when it's worldwide and lifetime. For now, it's solid and beat all the other releases.

EA of course denied this and it looks like they were right in this case. 604K in one month in the U.S. during this poor economy isn't to bad. It's probably safe to say that they are over 1 million sold world wide right now. I can see the game selling 3-4 million worldwide by the end of the year.
1 Like @blackace The current lack of inspiration in AAA game design is WAY worse than the current state of the economy. Dead Space 3, just like Mass Effect 3, will sell less than its predecessor, mostly because it`s a hugely inferior product.
And guess what, people will not want to spend 60 dollars on a generic unimaginative shooter, no matter what the state of the economy is.

It's definitely a good game (and LOTS to do, including the side missions and collecting/crafting), although the horror elements don't really pick up until level ~8 or so. I miss that quite a bit.
Although co-op in itself drastically diminishes the creepy atmosphere, I love what they did with Carver.
I also like that they included the (very) different game modes, but I don't like the fact that you get penalized when switching modes. It's not REALLY "New Game+".

NPD data is severely inaccurate right up there with VG chartz and their numbers too, best bet is to get it from the horses mouth, if possible.
plz stop encouraging developers to change survival horror games into another FPS crap fest
