Series of shots from unannounced game show Isaac Clarke fighting necromorphs alongside partner in iceworld setting.
Electronic Arts has not yet officially announced Dead Space 3, but the evidence of its imminent unveiling is mounting. A batch of nine screenshots purportedly from the game have been posted to All Games Beta, and they bolster previous rumors that the project will feature cooperative play and be set on an ice planet.
Earlier this month, a report suggested Dead Space 3 would add co-op, with a mystery second character assisting series hero Isaac Clarke in battles against necromorphs. The new screenshots show off a character who matches up with Earthgov Sergeant John Carver, recently introduced to the Dead Space fiction in the Dead Space graphic novel short.
The new screenshots also show off snowy settings, pointing to Dead Space 3 being set on an ice planet, which was rumored earlier this month.
As of press time, EA had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment. If the publisher plans to take the wraps off Dead Space 3 soon, it is possible the company will do so during its 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo presentation, scheduled for 1 p.m. PDT on Monday, June 4.
EA continuing to ruin games, Dead Space is becoming more and more action-y, which is crap. 2 was ok but this doesn't look promising at all. even if you aren't co-op'ing, having an annoying "sergeant" second guessing you constantly even though you are the king of the necromorph slayers will piss me off.
the first dead space was so nice and the second was "not bad" but the third it will become most popular :))
(i hope so...)
3rd person view,no co-op and some depth, twisted story.....one thing more, playing in co-op modes doesn't make it horror, game play will be awesome but scary part will surely suck
I think co-op would make a nice addition to the series. Enjoyed the last - but co-op would have made it more fun.
Co-op could be interesting. To keep the fear factor of the game, they could have moments where you have to split up or 1 of the characters gets enclosed in an area without weapons & the other character has to think fast & save the partner. Maybe even have moments where communication between you & the other player (assuming the co-op is online) is eliminated due to 'poor frequency' & you have to fix the communication. Just some thoughts :) Co-op could work for sure.
Finally I was waiting when this will show-up.I agree with the Dead Space "Purist" for me I think what made Dead Space such a success was its Single player Survival theme, Also they could also add more NPC's interaction could add more depth and a sense of immersion with the story which by the way can also be a good replay value by having multiple endings or outcomes, example a scenario where your protecting this NPC whether he/she survives or not can lead you to a different ending.
Though Co-op can be introduced but they should plan it carefully. Example they can put Coop campaign as a "Game+" Feature so as not to ruin your first play experience. Also Random encounters should be implemented so as make the game have a higher replay value, I remember Dead Space & Dead Space 2 got easier on your 2nd. / 3rd. play attempt not because of better gear but because you know where the necromorphs are going to pop-out which kinda gets boring quite easily.
All-in-all, we're all glad Dead Space 3 is coming out very soon!!! We'll be waiting...
Co-op could really be fantastic in a horror game, it just has to be done right. For one thing it's best to remove voice communication. Nothing ruins it more than hearing some other idiot tell you where all the enemies are and what's about to happen. At least make there an option to disable voice communication.
It adds a whole new dimension to the feeling of the thing when you want to help someone else survive, not just yourself. For once there's another character in the game who's not "destined to die" at some predetermined cutscene, causing you to just not care about them.
It will also open up situations where one player can truly, honestly be "helpless" and require the help of the other player, similar to Left 4 Dead. This is way more tense and dramatic because you know you cannot save yourself by mashing a button until the canned animation kicks in.
Hopefully it won't be an action game, and at least if it is we still have the first two to play (though, if they do keep it a horror game it would be interesting if it has more survival horror elements so both people can't just go crazy and blow everything away, but rather have to coordinate so both people don't run out of ammo and they'll be able to support each other).
I wonder how single player would be. By that I mean will you get a computer controlled teammate or just be by you're self. I'm thinking computer because other wise the story would have to be different for co-op and single player; Well unless they do a co-op mini campaign like portal 2, I hope they don't do it that way other wise you have to wait out the other half of the game untill your friend get's it. If the AI is better then Sheva's then I won't be bothered.... man I hated Sheva from RE5.
what did think 3 would be..... "deadspace 3 now it's a modern FPS..." duh it has zombies.
FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for co-op since the first game! Great move Visceral, much respect for you guys!
Don't let Capcom see this, it will just give them even more reason to try and tell us survival horror is dead and action is the way to go.
Co-op playing could ruin the environmental of horror, but if you separate the players, and we know what happen in the movie when a group separate >D
The only thing to make Dead Space even less scary? Add co-op. Dead Space was already an almost scare free game, and adding in the factor of co-op will probably get rid of what pathetic amount of fear was left. Solitude is one of the most primal fears of humanity, the idea of being alone in a threatening situation we know nothing about is something we all have felt one time or another and it is probably the best ways to scare someone. Add co-op and you aren't alone. Not to mention Dead Space's idea of fear is startling you. It has nothing at all more than jump scares and a bunch of burn victims chasing you. Real fear takes subtlety and Dead Space is about as subtle as a clown with his cock out.
@vault-boy But....but if there is no Co op than EA can't charge for an online and then the EA big wigs can't get any extra money from us, now that is scary.....to them at least lol.
i didn't even touch the MP in DS2 so i don't really see myself doing the co-op in this one. i always though that cop op and survival horror never mixed well.
Lets take DS Extraction, when i started playing it alone i still got some scares but when my friend joined in all that tension went out the window.
If they make it co-op they have to figure out a way to keep the 'scare factor' high as well. Adding co-op to a horror game has spoiled that in every franchise that's tried it.
What is it with horror franchises constantly turning into co-op action games these days?! Silent Hill for the Vita, RE5, RE: ORC, and now Dead Space...
Ice planet? You and a buddy against waves of hostile alien life? I'm starting to see some Lost Planet elements here...
only way the co-op will work in this game is if you get split up often and at every chance they get, headsets should only work during times when you and your co-op buddy are together. REMEMBER FEAR 3 and REMEMBER RESIDENT EVIL 5 THESE GAMES DESTROYED SURVIVAL HORROR GENRE AND IF DEAD SPACE 3 ISN'T CAREFUL THIS IS THE LAST OF THIS TYPE OF GAME EVER AGAIN WATCH. SURVIVAL HORROR DEPENDS ON THEM GETTING THIS RIGHT AND KEEPING THE FEAR EFFECT high
@david1230 ?????? take it easy man XD
Headshots are ineffective against Necromorphs. You must cut off their arms/legs to actually kill them. This ain't Call of Duty.
Maybe they can lock out voice chat like Dark Souls or Journey? That would help keep it scary while still letting you have coop.
The sad part is that the big companies are always attributing low sales on everything else but what's right in front of their faces. Dead Space was great. Dead Space two had to add multiplayer so all the kiddies wouldn't cry, it was still a very solid game but multi tanked fast. Now, since multi tanked, it's time to add co-op so again, the kiddies don't cry and still have something to compare to CoD because that's the way everyones messed up mind works nowadays. I love competetive multiplayer don't get me wrong, please just leave it out of Dead Space and please stop ruining survival horror...Less is more, tension in solitude.
I've got a feeling that EA's going to F*ck this game up with the MP and co-op. Why can't they just scrap the idea??!
