Capcom to bring Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun to North America, Europe in eight downloadable episodes, free of charge.
Although it fell short of lofty box-office expectations, this summer's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time showed that game-based films can be made with the same production values, star power, and marketing support as the biggest blockbusters. At the same time, Capcom's upcoming Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun shows a more low-budget guerrilla approach to adapting games on film--one with zero stars, low production values, and next to no marketing campaign.
Gamers in Europe and North America will get firsthand evidence of that later this year, as Capcom today announced that the film would be split into eight episodes and digitally distributed in the two continents this summer. Zombrex will be dubbed in English, with subtitled editions available in French, Spanish, and Italian. The publisher did not specify if the distribution will be handled through Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or an official Web site.
The film has creative continuity with the game series, as Dead Rising director Keiji Inafune helmed the live-action adaptation as well. Additionally, Inafune reteamed with Dead Rising scenario editor Makoto Ikehara to create the film's story. Shot in Japan, the movie follows two brothers attempting to escape a quarantined area in the midst of a zombie outbreak. The film also ties in to the upcoming Dead Rising 2, the story of which features Zombrex, an anti-zombification medication.
Dead Rising 2 is set to contaminate North American Xbox 360s, PlayStation 3s, and PCs on August 31, with the infection spreading to Japan on September 2 and to Europe on September 3. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's latest preview.
Wow, lots of negative comments here. This could easily be what I like to call a "craptastic" movie. A bad movie that is so cheesily bad that it rebounds into something enjoyable. Especially when fueled by adult beverages and sardonic friends.
its a mini series in 8 episodes i wouldnt consider it a movie hopefully its free if its not im not watching it.
I love low budget horror movies. Reminds me of the good old days when films like Night of the Living Dead and Evil Dead were just something you could do with practically zip money and a lot of enthusiasm, and yet still be a damn fine piece of eye pleasure.
WOW! This looks like the kind of movie you make whenn your 8 years old and your toying with the camera.
Yeah I'm kind of sick with zombies too. The original RE used zombies well and I was glad that they moved on to plagas but then other boring zombie games just won't die! (no puns intended either) We need more original stuff man!
completely agree with spike6958. Zombies are getting overused, there no longer scary at all. I remember RE they were scary and such, now there just a enemy that looks mutilated.
Why in the world would I want to watch a Japanese movie, split into episodes and dubbed into English????? Just frickin release the movie on DVD....no problems.
A movie based upon a game based upon a movie based upon another movie. That just has to sell, right?
God, I wish Zombies would just die (no pun intended) they where ok in the first three Resident Evil games and some of the really old movies such as the original Dawn of the Dead, but now they are overused and boring, the last good Zombie film was Shaun of the Dead, and a fourm of Zombie seems to be added to EVERY game these days, they need to give them a break.
It was average over here in asia... POPs story was jus not dat awesome as dat of the game! Looking forward to Resident Evil After Life!
Prince Of Persia was not a Box Office flop it in fact did very well overseas and poorly in the states, When will you stupid yanks realise you are not the centre of the world and that EVERYBODY HATES YOU
Why don't people understand that zombie films are meant to be terrible, cheap looking and over the top.
a movie? honestly this almost makes me not wanna buy the game haha but i still will game looks dope but not this...
Looks kinda bad.....hopefully they get the original live action cast from the 1996 Resident Evil to star in it.....
Prince of Persia made 300, 000, 000 world wide I'd call that a smash hit in my book plus Resident Evil 1&3 were both AWESOME and Afterlife looks like it's going to be a terrific ride as well
This is better than those crappy Resident Evil movies. Martial Arts vs. Zombies is crap! Bunch Of Idiots With Random Stuff vs. Zombies is awesome!
Dead Rising 2 Collector's Edition comes with this movie and a titanium razor cause after you've seen this movie there's only one thing left to do .
Heh im in looks hella funny and if its free why complain plus the game makers have influence might be better than the RE debacle
All I can say is... ahahahahah....oh my god. I have to see this. The guy had sharp things grafted to his wheelchair... of DEATH. Cheesy, terrible acting... watermelon explosions of gore. I'm going to have to watch it at some point.
